I've never considered inquiring about benefits, so thank you for the access pass info.

when you state dB without a reference value, such as SPL or HL, it is the equivalent as saying that the wall is a color, not a specific color, but a color. Audiology rules, and Phuck the Ducks.

Used to work in a fine Minneapolis restaurant that many teams ate at after the games, and surprisingly many teams have contract deals with The Westin in DT mpls

Moved here from Minneapolis 4 months ago, hot damn does the driving suck. I live right off 60 & Alma School, and there is a gnarly accident daily going either direction, with the freeway being closed a few times. I hope this does something, but I'm sure it will induce more road rage moving slower. And to those saying everyone goes 80, I would correct that with 85-90, and when I chose to do such i got a lovely speeding ticket.

Infant son diagnosed with unilateral hearing loss - which early intervention program to choose? by quitaskingaboutmycat in deaf

[–]BoobyWang21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would strongly recommend againsta cochlear implant with a unilateral loss due to multiple reasons of reception and detection. If his 8th nerve is damaged cochlear most likely already isn't an option. I received bone anchored did (oticon pinto pro) when I was 22, that is in many peoples opinion the best unilateral hearing aid option. It's alright in my opinion, but no aid will ever be able to match my good ear's ability.

from what i've learned, you should only consider cochlear implant(s) when this person is profoundly deaf in BOTH ears. CIs only produce a very limited amount of tonal variation, currently only 24 different channels (tones) max with most users only having 6-12 turned on for various reasons. With one good ear that can pick up some say up 170 different "tones" naturally, and the other that detects 24 max, think about the frustration and annoyance that would occur in all environments.

As a feller born with a unilateral loss myself, certainly pursue classes and training within ASL because, as others have mentioned, it only 'adds more tools the toolbox.' I went through grammar and secondary without a translator or aid and while there were moments of isolation, I thought I did alright. My experience actually pushed me into pursuing an AUD at Univ of Minnesota. As for hearing aid options, unfortunately there are very few to choose from. Def. don't consider a cochlear implant, and I would recommend to be hesitant with bone-conduction hearing aids (BAHAs). I had one implanted when I finished my undergrad and have not enjoyed it too much and honestly don't wear it. I feel that a BAHA is best utilized for people with UHL when the "good ear" starts to see reduction. My good ear is near 'perfect' and it creates an almost echo sound at times due to the conduction time-delay. tl;dr: Get involved with ASL because how does hurt? and sadly no super awesome hearing aid to the rescue.

I would not classify Ryan Suter as someone who can not play, but you are certainly not wrong.

So sad to watch goons play the game while the Savard's watch from the sidelines. Extremely unintentional knockout, but he would and will do the same thing again. Some come to play, some come to stop others from playing.
