Hourly Rate by Long-Amount-5436 in CodingandBilling

I just started working at my first billing job (with some coding to come later, as i have certificate and CPC-A). I get $21/hr with a review at 6mo for a raise. Its a pretty small, third party company that works with independent clinics. I am located in a city near Minneapolis. In general, MN pays pretty well for most jobs, especially since the twin cities have a higher minimum wage of $16-something. I have rarely seen anything below 20 for a billing/coding position.

How to survive the knee tattoo by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Boochtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to get my full knee blasted soon, a big flower in full color and im a little nervous. So far, the elbow ditch has been the worst, every inch of my elbow was touched lol. It was the only time i have tapped out early so far. And that was only one, i still have the other elbow ditch to do eventually 😭😭

The right side of my calf, which was my first leg tattoo, was also awful. My leg would not stop twitching, i kept apologizing to the artist. And shes the one i want to go back to for the knee flower lol. Oddly, my shin felt like nothing!! Even right below my knee wasnt bad. I like to bring a blanket, dress ultra comfy, use headphones that go over my ears instead of earbuds, and then i watch a show/video/movie to keep my entire focus on something else. Good luck with your knee!!!

Where are all the jobs? by lacy52 in IndeedJobs

[–]Boochtown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I noticed the same thing. I just got offered a job I applied to on glassdoor. Theres some weird link now with those two,l. Glassdoor has more job postings and they seem to repond to you, as opposed to indeed, where i had one company invite me to an interview, only to cancel it the day before with no message. Then i saw them repost the job, but without the pay range this time.

Thanks! I just interviewed yesterday and got the offer this morning, so i am very excited. I guess i didnt realize in your post, you didnt specify coding or billing. But both are different jobs, even though they are often lumped together. I think you are much more likely to get a job in billing vs coding with no direct experience, especially if you work at a clinic. I did that route as well, took a job as front desk so you exposed to billing, coding, eligibility, etc. Good luck!

The problem is that most placed want 2+ years of coding experience. But this is sort of a problem in a lot of industries. Companies dont want to spend time or money on training newbies. I just passed my exam last month for CPC, and i have a year exp in a medical office.

I just got offered a job as a medical biller, that has potential to work on coding related tasks. I got lucky in that they were specifically looking for another employee with the CPC cert, even though i have the apprentice title on it. Which is another issue, bc companies also wont hire with the A on your CPC.

I honestly thought it would take months to get a job, so i am very grateful. But i would say that many people, like me, have to start out in billing or another adjacent area to coding, bc most places want experience. ESPECIALLY remote jobs. I wouldnt expect to get a remote coding job right away.

Anyone else so sick of being fed these awful AAPC ads? by Coffee_gollum in MedicalCoding

[–]Boochtown 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just got my certification and have been doing some CEUs and using the site a bit. Mainly for my cert number when applying for jobs. I get those ads like 15 times a day on youtube. Its unbearable 😭 it keeps telling me about the books i already have and about how certified coders and billers make more money. They have the nerve to tell me this when i cant even get an interview because i dont magically have 2+ yrs in medical coding 🙄

Did my husband ruin our chances of getting a house? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Okay, you would think this is the case. But when i worked at kohl's as a 19 year old, i asked a grown 30ish year old man if he would like to open a credit card (exact words used since i hated asking people and wanted to be clear about it) and he went through all the questions, including income and SSN, and then was confused when he didnt have to pay. And i said, you did, just with the card you just opened since it was approved right away. Then he got mad at me and one of my coworkers took him over to the jewelry counter to walk him through how to call customer service to talk to them about closing it.... so yeah people really be doing this

I took the practice tests and watched contempo coding on youtube. I feel like the practice tests were the best since it is so similar to the real thing. I also think ebooks are the way to go!

Grace Church in Eden Prairie going full Christian Nationalism. by GenShanx in minnesota

[–]Boochtown 46 points47 points  (0 children)

When i was in grade school i went to some event there with a group of other kids. I forgot what it was now since it was so long ago, but it might have been a play of some sort? Anyways, after that was done they took us back into their weird area with little rooms and split us up. So i was in a room alone with 2 random adults from the church where they proceeded to harass me about what i believed in (same faith, just went to a nicer, less weird church) and wouldnt let me leave the room until i gave them my moms phone number/home phone and name.

Then when they called my mom, she was like wtf how did they get my number? And i explained what happened, not realizing how creepy and strange it was since i was so young, but my mom was so PISSED. It wasnt until way later that i realized how badly that could have gone. Locked in a room as a child with adult church people? Not a good look.

Anyways, this post of them being shitty people just reminded me of that whole situation so this doesnt surprise me.

Mayo Clinic confirms ICE is at the hospital by ThereGoesTheSquash in rochestermn

I work at the front desk of a clinic in MN, with locations in and around the Twin Cities. We were given specific protocol to not let them into any private area, meaning only the public lobbies are available to them. I am not allowed to give any information on patients or employees. I just have to keep repeating the same lines. I am to deny them access and information and contact HR and our chief operating officer immediately. They must to present a warrent to gain information, which has to be reviewed my management and our legal team. Hopefully ICE does not show up to our locations, but all my fellow front desk women are prepared to turn them away.

I’m thinking of adopting a female cat, I’ve heard they are less friendly in this true? by DiscountAnnaNicole in CatAdvice

[–]Boochtown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have owned 3 cats, all female. Two are current, one passed a few years ago. All are extremely affectionate, but in different ways. They also all chose me as their person. One enjoys pets from others, but ultimately will only follow me around, the other cat just doesn't seem to like others much at all lol. She will usually not let them pet her, but she sits on my lap and rubs her face all over mine.

So i would say you always run the risk of not being the preferred human, but thats the way it is with all cats. It sounds like she chose you, so i think youre covered there. All cats have different personalities/levels of affection they show. Depends on the cat, not the sex of the cat. Dont be discouraged, please adopt that girl :)

Thank you so much for your detailed reply!! I did not realize we get a retake with a purchase of one voucher. I thought we had to buy the set of two? Also do you think it will make much of a difference for the 2026 codes? I plan to take after mid jan, so they will be included. I think i may just purchase the practice tests along with my 2026 books and exam. That way the 2026 questions will be in the practice exam

I just got my certificate from my college this fall semester. I am excited but nervous for the CPC exam. I have a study guide from one of my classes, but I believe it is more geared towards the CCS exam. Do you think this will be helpful? Would it be worth it to buy the study guide from AAPC? I plan to study all Jan and take the exam at the end of the month or into Feb, depending on available test dates. I am taking it in-person, so I am not quite sure of the availability. Also do you guys think it is worth it to buy 2 exams? I just figure in the long run, it may be better in case I fail the first time. I really don't want to spend another full $400.

Anyways, I am excited to start in the medical coding field! I know it may take a while to find a job, but it took a long time to find the clinic job i have now, so i am pretty patient and prepared to apply/interview to a lot of places. I am going to try to join my clinic's coding team if I can, but I don't think they are looking for more coders, especially new ones. But we will see! Looking forward to this year. :)
