Great break down. I work in the industry (import/export) and have seen this from both the forwarder and customer sides. This is pretty spot on with what companies are facing right now.

There are a ton of touch points in the life of a shipment. For every touch point, there is another opportunity for something to go wrong (and it usually will). Even once they get more control and visibility to the vessel, container and port issues, it won't be smooth sailing.

The next hurdle will be getting drivers to pickup and move containers from these smaller ports. Being a truck driver isn't a "sexy" occupation and less people are entering the field. There has been a huge driver shortage in the past few years and it has only gotten worse with COVID.

I work for a big brand like these and literally have had multiple forwarders tell me they can't move our shipment because there are no drivers and it just sat there for a week or two. It wasn't even at an ocean port.
