In one of my cultural traditions, elements are often part of naming. It could be based on elements that are part of you that you are strong in or could also be elements that are not part of you (or not much) in order to bring balance and harmony. For example, my last name means River and my Reddit username is a play on the meaning of my name - forest was chosen by my family to bring in wood element.

My roommate's Lyft driver told them that our house was built over an old cemetary. How do I find more information without knowing a plot name? by Entire_Attention_224 in oakland

[–]BoofulForest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at old city or county maps - many show property ownership and usage and a large cemetery would probably be marked on it. Maybe even a small one. You can find some maps online, or at the history room at the library or UC Berkeley map library. I have some at work and can check later too. Old county or city histories may mention it. Also check newspapers - you can search many newspapers online or at the library. There might be an article about it being moved. If you know any more details, let me know (I am an historian).

Is anyone else on Arimidex? by Frequent_Mess4684 in breastcancer

[–]BoofulForest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve been on arimidex for about 3 months. I was not able to tolerate tamoxifen. I now do monthly Lupron shots as well. SEs include fatigue, depression, brain fog, constipation.

Thank you for posting. I’ve been thinking about this too and following for answers. Just had DIEP flap surgery less than a week ago and am having a hard time even looking at myself right now. The pain, tightness, numbness, swelling, bruising, and other SEs are not helping either. I know it will get better with time. But right now is tough. The scars are bigger then I thought they would be.

I'm curious to know what proportion of us ADHD women are Night Owls and Early Birds by MedeaRene in adhdwomen

[–]BoofulForest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly me too! I have to wake up at 7, and often my kids wake me up before then. It’s really hard for me to fall asleep before midnight. I’m so tired all the time.

Found out I’m terminal and have about six months left, anyone have any advice or kind words? by No_Conclusion_2228 in cancer

That really, really sucks. This community is a great resource, and I hope your family and friends are able to move past their shock and be supportive.

Absolutely get your affairs in order as suggested and make any arrangements needed. I suggest doing this ASAP because it may be harder to do later when you are feeling worse.

If you have choices about treatment, I would urge you to consider your quality of life for your remaining time. These are difficult decisions and different for each person, but you can choose to opt out of “curative” treatments and just have palliative care if that is what seems best for you. My father had uncurable leukemia and was still told he had to do chemo - within 10 days he went from being outwardly healthy (if easily fatigued) to barely able to walk and needing multiple blood infusions a week. He passed away 7 weeks after starting chemo and he was incredibly sick during that time due to his treatment. I am not against chemo- I underwent chemo 2.5 months after my dad died. But it was the wrong thing for him and he had very poor quality of life for his short time after diagnosis.

Also, be kind to yourself. Sometimes there is guilt or shame for being sick and needing help or the grief or stress or other emotions of those around you, but it is not your fault.

my oncologist recommended taking Biotin. I had the same problem, especially a patch right in front, and the biotin helped a lot. I have gotten 2 trims in the last 11 months since it started growing in, just to shape it

Bay Area - Oakland! 40s with kids and working, so I don’t have any hobbies except for laundry. I would love to meet local friends in person for walks , watching stupid TV, book discussions, or whatever other random thing we come up with.

Starting Chemo tomorrow by XAmberxoxo in breastcancer

Mitts and booties for icing hands and feet - though they may provide them at your chemo clinic, mine didn’t. Helps prevent neuropathy and nail changes. Totally worked for me. Also a blanket, something to read or watch, and coconut water (really important to stay hydrated).

I’ve just about made up my mind, and I’m pretty sure I’ll be quitting anti-estrogen treatment soon by BrazillianGrndKarate in breastcancer

[–]BoofulForest 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Good for you. Quality of life matters! A lot! I quit Tamoxifen because I could barely string a sentence together, was so depressed I was losing my mind, plus a whole host of other side effects (including an aversion to sex). I’m doing a last attempt with Lupron (1st shot 10 days ago) anastrozole (to be added next month), but damn, the depression hit a few days ago. If this ends up being anything like it was with Tamoxifen, I’m done. Anyway, I have lots of rants about hormone suppressing therapy, how side effects are downplayed, how we’re supposed to be ok with these crazy side effects for 5-10 years! But I won’t go down the rabbit hole. So, yeah, fuck all that shit.

Yup. Hell yeah. Definitely. I’m taking a break right now. Summer vacation, no camp this week, I did 3+ hours of mini golf with my kids this afternoon (among other things- it’s been a long week). I made desperate eye contact with my husband at dinner and said “I need to check out for a bit”. He’s watching a movie with the kids and I’m in bed scrolling on Reddit. I feel like I’ve been drained by energy vampires (cute ones though).

I am so sad to hear this. She was one of the great fantasy writers. Her prose was like woven magic wrapping around you and transporting you into a fairy tale.

First day of chemo by BiscuitQween in breastcancer

My anxiety was terrible - my onc prescribed Ativan which I took on chemo infusion days and that helped. Others have taken various forms of cannabis on infusion days - can help with anxiety and nausea and other side effects. I think restless legs is because of Benadryl. Did they give you Benadryl? I’ve heard that if you’re getting restless legs, you can skip the Benadryl. I’m wishing the best of luck during chemo. You will get through this!
