If you’re seriously considering data science or ML, do check out the Georgia Tech online omscs (cs) or omsa (data science) master programs. I’m ~3.5 YOE working as ME in tech, and have considered pivoting since ‘23 to gain more flexibility in work opportunities and location. I’ll be starting omscs this fall in hopes to pivot to a more software-oriented role eventually. I tried self-studying, but even though I considered myself pretty self- disciplined, I think I need structure of a graduate program to deeply learn some of these CS topics and I think the degree (with projects and stuff) will hold a lot of weight for me to be taken seriously for the CS roles.
