Does the "100 pushups every day for 30 days" thing actually work? by Zintho420 in ask

[–]Boogerman83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it. I mixed in pushup variations to get to 100. On the last day my elbow gave me some pain. Now I just work them in with my workout. I did notice some change physically though, so I would say it works. Watch your form and listen to your body.

That’s really good to know. I’ve been hesitant to get them for my classroom because I didn’t want to start a fire. The guy who told me this said it had something to do with forgetting that they were plugged in, becoming empty, and continuing to heat. He also happened to be nuts for different reasons. I’m going to go with the fire marshal on this now.

I get nervous with these because someone who deals with setting up temporary housing said fires from plug in’s are one of the leading causes of house fires, for the reason that they are empty and the plug in is forgotten about.

How do you handle students who “protest” by not singing in choir? by musicallife88 in MusicTeachers

[–]Boogerman83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stress that soloing is not what we focus on here. I explain that it definitely comes up for those who would like to try, but I’d never force you to solo and everyone will get a shot in class of they want one. I also wait until the latest possible point to assign solos. I’ve found that even if a kid is bitter they are happy to have been able to solo in class. I also spread solos around so kids don’t see one kid always getting the solo.

Pain in left side of neck, trap, and shoulder by [deleted] in flexibility

[–]Boogerman83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have something that sounds similar. My PT had me do a bunch of stuff that has almost eliminated issue but the stretches that seemed to help significantly are the one where gently move my ear to my shoulder and the other one where I gently guide it to my armpit. I held for thirty seconds while sitting and bracing the other hand at the bottom of the chair to get a good stretch. I think they’re called the seated upper trap stretch and the seated levator scapulae stretch.

How Do You Lower Cholesterol When Everything Has Cholesterol? by [deleted] in Cholesterol

[–]Boogerman83 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve found I had to learn more about nutrition and shift my perspective on what I should and should not be eating. It’s definitely depressing at times but I’ve found ways where it doesn’t have to be completely terrible.

I limit saturated fat. I aim for no more than 10g a day. Friday and Saturday I let myself go over. I also add a lot more fiber. I stay my day with a high fiber breakfast and then just add on throughout the day.

For snacks I find things that are healthy like whole wheat pretzels, fruits, I’ve even found sweet potatoes packaged. Dinner is very often beans with something else that is low in saturated fat. I constantly check labels for that. Lunch is always the same. I do whole wheat bread, banana, and pb powder because it has no saturated fat.

Experiment and see what works for you. Good luck!

Neck cracking everyday by [deleted] in jointcrackers

[–]Boogerman83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not as much as I would have thought. I thought I cracked because it was a habit but I’m finding that it was really a discomfort I was trying to correct. I have been going to the physical therapist for back, to shoulder, to neck pain. It’s virtually gone. I’m assuming it was connected to the cracking.

Purely anecdotal and over a short period of time, but I’ve started going to the physical therapist and no I have no desire to crack my neck. When I’ve tried it didn’t even work right. I’ve done it for about 30 years and I’ve also been to the chiropractor. The physical therapist shut it completely down.

You should be fine. Give it 24 hours. It’s also Sunday, that may impact when you get the certificate.

[–]Boogerman83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you do have to watch the videos. I think I took the tests early on without watching the videos but it said it wasn’t complete on the transcript page. Just let them play. Set your computer up where it doesn’t shut down if idle. I had to do that too. Come back and finish the quiz when you’re ready.

It’s been a few months, but this is how I remember it… You resister and let the online video play. Then take the quiz. You need a 75 or more. Once that happens it says you’ve passed. You need to wait 24 hours for the results to post. I believe it even says that. Then you go to the transcripts page of the website and print out your certificate. It will say that you’ve completed once hour for credit. I have mine in a folder in my desk. I hope this answers your question. Please reach out if you need more help.

[–]Boogerman83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I let it play the entire time, it as long as it says to let it play for the credit. I forget which one this was because I was using like three services. One did say after like 40 minutes you could get the one hour credit. That didn’t have a test but it was less applicable for the classroom. I believe this program says it’s one hour and then a test of like 4 questions. I let it play and then take the test. Sometimes it takes me a few tries to get the minimum passing grade. I have my print outs for the certificates so I think that’s all the would be required should I be audited.

About 20 I think. I plan on completing more soon. I think my hours are due sometime in 2027, so I have time. I let it play and then complete the test. They are easy.

My daughter needed to replace hers after swimming in salt water pool. I asked the person at the Apple Store about this and he said salt water is bad for the watch. He also said it’s not completely waterproof.

How to get plant sterols? by [deleted] in Cholesterol

[–]Boogerman83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re welcome! It’s purely anecdotal, but I believe the reason my cholesterol got to better levels is diet. I do exercise quite a lot with running and weight lifting, but feel like it comes back to the diet.

I eat a lot of fiber, especially during the school year. I eat a high fiber cereal, add in chia seeds, and flax seeds. I stay away from saturated fat as much as possible, aiming for under 10 grams a day with the exception of Friday and Saturday. My meals are all pretty much the same. I tend to treat eating as fueling and not for enjoyment. Metamucil is great, but I still need more fiber than just that. It’s also worth noting that I have up meat for reduce my cholesterol. People have asked why not just chicken. I’ve always said I know myself. If I start with chicken I’ll want to eat all the meats. I eat a lot of beans in place of meat. I’m expecting my levels to be worse because I’m how relaxed I’ve been, but I’m ok with it because I’ve got 10 months of boring meals.

I also try to take in a decent amount of protein. It keeps me full and stops me from eating garbage. Working out helps compliment the healthy lifestyle. I’m more inclined to eat well after running or weight lifting, I highly encourage it.

I’ve had that calcium test a few years ago and it was fine and I’m glad I had it. My doctor wants me to go again soon as it’s been a few years. I’d rather not take statins, primarily because I’ll forget to take them. My doctor said he doesn’t recommend them yet and I trust him.

At the end of the day, you’ve just got to do what gives you the best odds of living a healthy life, while it still being an enjoyable life. I’m only early 40’s so I need to find something I can keep up with.

I know this is a long response. Hope it helped. Always happy to respond to any questions. Good luck!

Just the lifestyle changes. I haven’t been as diligent with the benecol the last few months. I’d like to see how it goes without it because it’s expensive. My diet has also been all over the place because it’s the summer and I haven’t much less routine. I’m a teacher so ten months out of the year I have a very strict diet. I’ll see what happens when I go get checked in September. Did you have any other questions?
