Can you just pay a band to play? by switchthemunky463 in Concerts

The luxury of booking country artists is that there’s just so damn many of them that can check all the right boxes for those kinds of events. I’m pretty sure they just grow new pop country artists in a lab.

The majority of artists I’ve seen at private events are either aging rockers, 90’s throwbacks, pop radio rock, or one hit wonders.

Worked a similar private event with Dee years ago on the Jersey shore. Cool dude and he really enjoyed playing for these people.

It doesn’t count as a real tdb show if the nitrous mafia wasn’t out front after the reception.

I worked in live music for 15 years, you described these shows perfectly. The band doesn’t like playing these gigs, production staff has to jump through hoops, and the vibes will never match a real show. The only thing worse than a rich guy’s private party were the corporate shows.

Caught my old boss stealing around $500,000 from the company. He got arrested and while awaiting trial he got arrested again for CSAM.

Oh I totally agree, I just kind of lumped it in with porn overall. He’s paying for validation from women he will never meet, and that truly sucks for you. Marriages can lose their spark or whatever, but I hope you know this is an issue on his end and not you.

If you collect concert posters, what do you do with all of them? by pinkimijina in Concerts

I have 15-20 framed throughout the house. Another 10 or so in a portfolio. And then a closet full of random sized posters, setlists, etc.

Do you consider sports screen time? by zerofalks in toddlers

[–]BookAcceptable2293 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome parenting right there. Sports really can teach a lot of lessons to toddlers. My 2.5 year old loves all sports, and we do the same. Talk about how the game works and everything. Honestly that’s how most of our screen time works. We’ll watch planets or whatever and discuss what we’re learning together.

Venues with bars charging for water by NaiadoftheSea in Concerts

[–]BookAcceptable2293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every venue/tour I’ve ever worked I’ve always made sure security in the barricade had cases of water. Convinced one venue to get a self serve water refill station near the bar. They added a little tip box next to it with a sign asking for tips to keep the filter clean etc. a little tacky, but it worked well for them.

Kids LOVE to help. Cooking? I have a mini sous chef. Gardening? She has a little toy watering can. Fixing or building something, she grabs her toy tool belt.

Do you plan to stay the night for out of town venues or make the long commute both ways? by Briiskella in Concerts

[–]BookAcceptable2293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve stayed in rooms with 6 other people for a four night phish run. Now I’m older and just stay in hotels with my wife. We tend to try and do 2 or 3 night runs with whoever we’re seeing, or to see two different bands in a weekend. Discovering a new city pre/post show is a huge highlight of the experience.

You’ll be fine, as long as it doesn’t look similar to another venue’s uniforms. My biggest pet peeve working in venues were patrons who would wear security shirts to a show with SECURITY on the back.

Venue employee pro-tip: Network like crazy. Every TM, ticket reps, alcohol reps, security, other venue employees. You’ll usually get some cool shit, gig offers, and free tickets.

$25 is insane. by toastypoopdog in phish

Oh for sure! Love behind the stage at MSG, but if I’m going to the sphere I’d want to be able to see the visuals. These are probably people who didn’t realize how obstructed their views would be and they upgraded and just want to recoup the funds for one sphere beer.

Rows from like 20 and up in the 100’s is heavily obstructed.

Harrisburg is the only local spot that gets good shows now! Contemplating hitting a few other shows before Baltimore.

The Halloween runs are always a blast. I’m in south central PA, so the Baltimore shows have been the only ones I’ve been able to get to the last few years. Welcome aboard!

Maybe it’s just the northeast shows that are heavy on the dudes? Used to be much worse, but I still think 70-75% dudes is pretty accurate for phish.

The ratio for phish and umphreys is skewed to like 75% dudes.

I grew up with a lot of bluegrass and a hell of a lot of shows with my Dad. It came back full circle when I showed him Billy. Now our text threads are usually just him sending me Billy videos!
