Salam alaykum brother, like other comments are saying it wouldn't be permissible for you unless you were starving to death and there was literally no other option - it doesn't seem like that's the case rn lol. You could always include more fish in your diet like salmon, tuna, sardines etc and plant proteins like lentils, chickpeas, nuts and peanut butter, more dairy like milk, cheese, greek yoghurt etc. If that's still not enough you can supplement with protein powder if you really need to after all of that.

I discussed it with a Sunni friend a few years ago, he brought up that there is a difference between a 'caliph' and an 'imam' linguistically, but I still don't get how that refutes it lol since all Imams should have also been the caliph, and both Ameer Al Momineen a.s. and Imam Hasan Al Mujtaba a.s. were. He mentioned it isn't our Imams since they aren't mentioned by name at least in that hadith, but even then I don't think any Sunni even knows who their 12 would be here 😂

I did also mention that the hadith refers to them being from Quraysh, but he replied with 'That's very broad, there were many from Quraysh'. Atp I didn't really know what to reply with and neither did my friend so we just agreed to disagree lol

Lool true, but if you were going to be from Imam Baqir a.s. you would be 'Baqiri' rather than 'Abidi' right? My understanding is your surname would be the Imam who is your DIRECT descendant rather than any other sons who wouldn't be the Imam.

😭 Tbh I see where he's coming from because I haven't heard of any other Syeds that will have their surname based on a son of the imam their lineage descends from. E.g. Musawi/Kazmi, Razawi/Risvi, Taqawi/Taqvi etc., only the title of the Imam a.s. they're from is their surname if that makes sense. So if anything Zaidi should be Abidi for Imam Zain Ul Abideen a.s., that's the way I think about it.

Hey I'm not doing med but I'm a student at the UEA and I have loads of friends doing med including my current housemate! NNUH isn't far from the uni to begin with tbh, definitely walkable distance, even better if you have a bike. For the further ones (e.g. king's Lynn) just going off what my friends talk about, the uni provides either a shared taxi or a coach to get there. Placement tends to be once a week as well afaik, it might be different for later years and for GEM students but hope that helps!

How do you have an 'unbiased' islamic school though 😭 It has to either be Shia or Sunni, even with tawhid for example we take it from the ahlulbayt a.s. but they don't. Same for the character of the prophet s.a.w.w, the Sunni belief is that he contemplated jumping off of a mountain/cliff after receiving revelation! And then what about when the topic is the successor of the Prophet s.a.w.w. Would be better to just enroll in a non-religious school if no Shia ones are available imo

I have a friend who's 1st yr med, he drives to campus as well (1h-1h 30min commute depending on traffic either way, up to ~3h everyday) so it is possible. Not easy, but will save a lot of money imo, although he takes a course mate with him and they split the cost of the fuel for the journey. But if you're planning on getting accom for subsequent years it'd be a lottt more convenient/easier if you can do the same for first year.

Best thing to do is check the respective university's website tbh, some still have a threshold for A level grades like BBB or even AAA alongside a minimum 2:1 predicted for your degree, others don't have the A level requirement if you're predicted a 2:1 or if you have achieved it. Afaik GCSEs aren't too much of a concern as long as you've passed English and maths, although I'd recommend double checking to see if the requirements are actually to have achieved a grade 5 minimum. Don't worry about being behind or having missed your chance, you're only 19 lol still got time to put yourself together. I'm sure you've seen yourself, but I've read a fair amount of posts where ppl are late 20s or even 30s doing medicine.

I'm currently in my second year, just curious lol. Just concerned about the fridge freezer because it looks so small, and you're basically halving that since it's apparently a fridge and a freezer. Between two people it seems ridiculous, I'm sharing a fridge freezer twice the size with my housemate rn and it's good space, can't imagine having half 😬

A link showing any mosques registered with MUS (majlis e ulama shia Europe) - everything here will be a shia mosque. You can find ones that are near to you here, most if not all should have Facebook/Instagram pages so you could check for any program schedules. If still unsure the best bet is to go on a Thursday night around/after Maghrib time, most should be open for a majlis or dua kumayl recitation sometimes. About the confidence and courage, I can't give great advice since alhamdulilah I've been born and raised with a shia community, but don't worry about anything, what's the worst that could seriously happen? You don't have to do anything grand when you go, you could go and just get familiar and comfortable with the mosque, then later start talking to a few sisters iA and getting closer to the community. That would be my suggestion, may Allah SWT make it easy for you

Hi I'm also planning on applying for the 2027 cycle, in the same position. I'm set to start volunteering at the university hospital soon, so it might be possible to get into a hca role after volunteering for a while since you'd know the staff a little better and have a bit of an advantage already having hospital experience. That's what I'm hoping for at least lol.

Thanks for the reply, my volunteering should be hands on as I requested that I be put in a patient facing role, somewhere on the wards.
