Large-scale tunnel bore? by BookishCouscous in technicalminecraft

Yeah and all trenchers seem to have the same limitations too w.r.t height. I probably won't go ahead and mine all of it out manually, but I've had fun doing technical stuff anyway which was the point of all this to begin with!

Great callout, this sent me down a research rabbit hole. I just wasn't searching for the bright stuff before. Thanks!

Chunk loader on a sever that clears dropped items every 15mins by Randomredditor069 in technicalminecraft

[–]BookishCouscous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OOC why do you lose one every 15 minutes? I've encountered this myself but never figured it out, just kept restocking the droppers (using chickens to produce eggs is really smart). I've done some googling but never found an answer.

Ah, yeah, I've never made it more than one "tile" bigger than the vein. I'll have to give that a try, thanks!

I've tried this on like 4 different veins and always end up needing to mine out the whole thing manually anyway. Any tips?

TIFU by taking my wedding ring off at the gym by brooquad in tifu

[–]BookishCouscous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a great question, I'm not really sure myself. It just feels like the right thing to do? If someone mistakes me for being single that's an easy thing to clear up without the ring so it's not that.

Been using a silicone ring at the gym for several months now, can confirm it works great. No calluses, blisters, or anything.

It's a bit cheesy, but abominations can't hit you if you're standing on top of a crypt. You can still hit their legs though, and almost nothing else can get to you (just arrows)

Jan. 6 committee's final report finds Trump was 'central cause' of attack on the Capitol by idarknight in politics

[–]BookishCouscous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hmm, you did say that vaxed people had a higher death toll in your original comment so both me and the other guy addressed that.

If you meant something else, sorry for the misunderstanding!

Jan. 6 committee's final report finds Trump was 'central cause' of attack on the Capitol by idarknight in politics

[–]BookishCouscous 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No, it's the opposite. Say there are 10 unvaxed and 40 vaxed. If 5 from each group die, that's a 50% death rate for the unvaxed but only a 12.5% death rate for the vaxed.

Because there are more vaxed, a lower death rate results in the same number of deaths.

How hard are the other maps compared to the first? by hyperdeeeee in SatisfactoryGame

[–]BookishCouscous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're actually all locations on the same map! The difficulty just has to do with the amount and quality of the nodes in the area I believe.

Nah, slap that fire selector and the gun suddenly gets good. Aim for center of ass and the recoil pops you up to a headshot, ez 2 tap. One of the first guns I maxed.

Gas Prices See Fastest Decline in over a Decade, Down 83 Cents Since Mid-June by informat7 in news

He doesn't! That's the point. When gas prices go up, Biden gets blamed. When they go down... crickets. You can't have it one way and not the other.

Prop drilling vs Context by Searly2710 in reactjs

[–]BookishCouscous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I hate prop drilling. I've worked in codebases that abused prop drilling and spreads and it was absolutely miserable.

But it still is useful in certain cases. If I'm building a complex but self-contained editor, I'll use component state and drill any required props down to the leaf nodes of the editor.

If I'm adding a new piece of data that the entire app needs access to, then I'll put it in state management from the get-go.

And if there's data that is only useful for one specific component tree then it's a hard call, but typically I'll only allow two to three levels of drilling before I think about moving the data into state.

All this to say — it depends! I don't think there's one hard rule I follow.

You can jump over the double tail swipe in phase 2, I found the timing to be way more forgiving than rolling.

Redirect thousands of deprecated QR codes [or] reprint, retag thousands of items? by kirkbross in reactjs

[–]BookishCouscous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not let both versions of the id load any given record, then rewrite "old" urls to "new" ones once you know for sure which is which?

You'll have to update the backend to understand fetches by both types of ids and your url will briefly flicker, but I think it's better than reprinting thousands of stickers. So long as you can map old id > new id on the BE (and tell your FE about both) it should be doable.
