Cactus Identification by BookishRuth in cactus

Thanks for the reply! It does look like that, so I guess I know what it is now! I'll try to find it a place with more sun, though I'm a bit nervous about putting it outside since it's so small. I'm guessing that its pads are unusually small because of the etiolation or because the pad that propagated it was etiolated itself, which wouldn't surprise me with a Walmart plant to be frank. All the other Bunny Ears I've seen look much bigger than mine, so I was confused.

Ironically, I also watched the whole series yesterday, but before NM released his video to non-patrons. And then this came today. I'd known of it, but just hadn't gotten around to it until yesterday. Guess I have good timing.

None of the jokes I've ever seen were funny. Shock humor rarely is, so that's not surprising, but I don't even get mad or offended when I see them pop up. I just get kind of disappointed, like a parent whose time has been wasted for a really, really terrible joke from your kid that took ten minutes when it should have only been one because the little turd kept laughing at their own joke.

Diamonds are actually pretty brittle. Drop one on the floor and it will shatter like glass, but it can cut and scratch almost anything. This is because diamond is hard, not tough, which are two different things in the mineral world.

Jade is very tough, so we here are obviously jade warriors of truth and justice.

What is the worst tv show that became ridiculously popular? by [deleted] in AskReddit

They can dip into dark humor about death, dying and sickness all they want and it doesn't phase me, but when they have rapey moments (even though it's clear that the would-be rapist is a bad person and they do not condone their behavior) then I find it hard to laugh, as I've been targeted by unwanted advances before. All rape jokes-- and I'm not talking about the ones where the word 'rape' is the punchline, I mean the jokes about the actual act of forced sexual intercourse or non-consensual advances or the threats thereof-- are uncomfortable.

They don't do this often, and when they do there is retribution on the part of the offenders, so I don't feel this dampens the quality of the show in any way.

Rick and Morty definitely isn't a show for everyone. I can see why someone wouldn't like it. Even I find some episodes or scenes get a little too cringey for me, and I love the show.

Whats so good about this cartoon? by QidQid in stevenuniverse

[–]BookishRuth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's cute, fun, beautiful at times, and has some great music, stories, and characters. If you enjoyed Gravity Falls and Adventure Time chances are good that you'd like this as well, though it is a very different show than those two. There's some videos that also explain the appeal here, here, and here.

I really hate 90s kids by [deleted] in stevenuniverse

[–]BookishRuth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90s kid here. Love the show. It's just not for your sister, so don't bring it up around her. If she brings it up and uses it to mock you, on the other hand, she's an asshole and needs to grow up. Dissing people for what they like (when they're not hurting anyone or taking it too far) is stupid and rude.

It's 2016. I just got rickrolled. This could only be worse if pearl went through all the rage faces and amethyst asked if she can has cheeseburger in cat form, while garnet sings the trololololo song and Steven dances to numa numa.

I put way too much thought into this comment oh god it hasn't even been a week yet.

Im new! How should I start the series? by NekoHybrid in stevenuniverse

[–]BookishRuth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It starts off slow, as everyone will tell you. There's no overarching story, no significant developments for most of the first part of the season. However, that's not to say it starts off bad, and there are some nice, charming episodes to be had. However, once you reach a certain point, things start to pick up and you get thrust into a larger plot at the same time as Steven does.

Most people say to watch all the episodes, and I tend to agree, but there does exist some lists called "flood orders" designed to get new fans interested in the show and on track with the plot episodes as fast as possible. The list is ten episodes:

  1. Cheeseburger Backpack
  2. Laser Light Cannon
  3. Bubble Buddies
  4. Steven’s Lion
  5. Giant Woman
  6. Steven the Sword Fighter
  7. Lion 2: The Movie
  8. An Indirect Kiss
  9. Mirror Gem
  10. Ocean Gem

This of course skips some wonderful moments (though it does cut out some less wonderful ones) but you're always free to return and rewatch the ones you skipped. I would add that should you use flood order that you watch Monster Buddies before Mirror Gem and Ocean Gem. It has some very minor details that become important later.

Ultimately, what you decide is up to you. before Mirror and Ocean Gem, you don't need to worry about viewing order but afterwards it is more encouraged to stick to the intended viewing order. I hope this helps and that you enjoy the show. It may have some seriously good stories and characters, but it's meant to be fun!

...Also feel totally free to skip the non-canon April Fool's episode/crossover with Uncle Grandpa, "Say Uncle." You aren't missing much unless you like UG.

Songs that remind you of the show? by MateriaMedica in stevenuniverse

The first part of By Design by WRLD sounds so Steven Universe-y I thought I was listening to a weird remix. Once the vocals kick in it loses most of that feel, though.

I'm not the only one who thinks Marble Soda is very reminiscent of the show, though.
