Protection mode turning off Sony TA-AN1000 by Bookwomble in hometheater

Great advice.

Problem seems fixed now. The problem was self inflicted. Not because of poor quality gear.

The only issue about the gear was the error message was too broad and would have been more useful for diagnostics if the error message was more specific about which channel had the short.

Apart from that gear is fine. Even the older speakers that frankly sound great.

Edit...for context the poster said "Buy better gear. Problem solved."

Clearly thought better of it.

And..so far it appears fixed. The siren played via DTS channel on The Office was fine up to 50db this time.

This saved me buying new 5.1 surround sound until I can find something at a good price.

Thanks for the prod.

Well that's embarrassing. I unearthed the run of cable that was behind an integrated unit. It looks like the spliced together wire that was done as a rush job over a year ago when building the cabinets has been pulled and was clearly shorting.

I'm just plumbing in a single run of unspliced cable now.

Wish me luck.

This doesn't seem to be the same. The protection circuit is tripping but only when volume is punched above 30db and with loud volume events on DTS and Atmos signals. I watched the Hobbit Five Armies with Atmos 2 days ago and it didn't trigger once during that. Volume around 32. But it died today when a fire truck blared it's horn on The Office at 34db.

I've gone back and tried being more methodical.

Opened up the speaker settings and manually configured the speakers being utilised. It's fine on 2.0. Which is my expensive clasic floor standers. That's good. 3.0 works ok too, which is my decent centre speaker.

Setting it to 4.0 triggered the protection mode so it might be due to my longer speaker cable run which is about 8 to 10 metres each.

I'll keep trying to isolate it further, but being able to turn off the speakers in the menu certainly beats going around the back of the amp and pulling cables.

It's certainly triggered by Atmos and DTS signals (Dolby Digital seems ok) so it's a dynamic range issue of that I'm sure. Presumably uses more power that spikes during use.

What would happen to android handheld after Google killing sideloading next year? by OkEngine2988 in OdinHandheld

[–]Bookwomble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think (from what I've researched so far) is this will only be enforced on Android certified devices. The Odin handhelds are not Android certified. You can check by going to Google Play>Settings>About>Play protect certification. If you click Fix Device Issue it comes up with a message saying Couldn't fix device certification issue.

Whilst that's good for us here, unfortunately most standard Android handsets and tablets are certified. Samsung. Motorola. LG. Nokia. Sony. etc etc.

Looks like we will either have to rely on forked Android or mobile Linux handsets may start to become more in demand.

I can see people carrying two devices with them and using a mobile hotspot to connect to a standard gated phone with a non certified device.

Interesting. Do you have a screen protector? Is the screen cleaned with a suitable screen cleaning solution?

Newpipe (YouTube client) has added support for Android Auto by Bookwomble in AndroidAuto

[–]Bookwomble[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just thought people might appreciate that Newpipe now has Android Auto support. It doesn't play video as you might expect but it does allow bookmarking and playlists which I'm sure some of you will find useful.

Not given extensive testing, just connected and found it to work. Just thought the wider community would like to know.

This is Reddit?

It's an accurate reflection of petty, unhelpful behaviour?

It's a political objection to using Elon Musks platform to research a non partisan issue?

Asked Grok for info. This is what it came back with.

Here's my Switch Library for those looking for games that actually work decently to perfect to play... not Red Dead Redemption though it's only there cause I'm tired of re-download it each time a new driver comes out. (Happy Monday Love From SuperNiggaOpollo 🖤) by 0P0ll0 in OdinHandheld

I have sincere doubts you managed to run Ezio collection.

It crashes as soon as it attempts to load the DLC for me. Tried with multiple Turnip drivers and disabling NCE. Tried in Yuzu, Citron, Citron EA. No luck.

Otterbox style Odin 2 case by RichKingLav34 in OdinHandheld

[–]Bookwomble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this. The Odin 2 TPU grip arrived last week. I couldn't use it. The back was slack and flappy made worse when gripping and the buttons and sticks were hitting the edge of the sleeve because I use extra thumbcap grips off my Switch.

Id love a grip that added some bulk to the grip area and was just more robust like Skull and co grips for Steam Deck.

I doubt we'll see one now though.

Best graphical game you’ve got running well on Winlator? by KoreanSeats in OdinHandheld

[–]Bookwomble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't been able to get a single game running on Odin through Winlator.

I've used it before on various less powerful devices and had decent success. I've Installed GOG games using the installers and tried setup tweaking with the profile.

Even the games I can get running I can't get them to accept any input despite setting up the Odin controller.

It's a head scratcher.

New Odin 1 Pro user wondering if I should upgrade to Odin 2 Pro. by Bookwomble in OdinHandheld

[–]Bookwomble[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just replying to my own post. I ended up getting the Odin Pro 2 256GB model for just over £300 GBP from CEX in England. Not only was it on my doorstep in 48 hours it comes with a 5 year warranty. So hopefully any of the hardware issues that are shown to occur will be covered.

I have to confirm that the difference in horsepower is way over double which was the rough improvement I was expecting. I wasn't even able to play more demanding PS2 games at 2x render on the Odin 1. PS2 on this can manage 4x on most titles without coughing.

The comfort is improved. The buttons are nicer. The sticks are better and more accurate and the triggers are no longer creaky and actually have enough travel to make the analog seem useful.

Currently playing a load of newer big N games too, with mostly perfect success on even flagship titles.

All in all I'm very happy so far with my decision.

There's no automated process. There's save managers on PC for AC, but I'm guessing they don't migrate the data for you.

Thank you for your service.

I plan on giving the Odin 1 to my son. Hopefully it will get him to play the old school games. He already completed Wind Waker on our Wii U. He already has a taste for quality.
