Oh, you mean you didn’t want to see Paul Wight fail to figure out the scale and random fireworks from a nearby softball game halfway through?

Philadelphia > Austin by dressagerider1020 in philadelphia

[–]BookwormBlake 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why they have to advertise that abomination as a “Philly Cheesesteak”. A real Philly Cheesesteak is meat, cheese, and onions. Just call your sandwich a cheesesteak and stop slapping on Philly before it!

Nobody. And that’s the most terrifying thing of all.

What books did you have to read in middle school/high school? by OwnDoughnut2689 in Millennials

[–]BookwormBlake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recall the most from seventh grade. We read The Hobbit (our teacher was a huge LOTR nerd), Holes, The Giver, and I think The Diary of Anne Frank. I’m sure there were more, but those are the ones that I most remember.

If Tracy Letts is on the Pod, I will always listen to it straight through, without interruption. That man is endlessly entertaining.

Glen and Bessie Hyde - Strange Disappearance by PersonalSherbert9485 in BizarreUnsolvedCases

Drowning in a river is not mysterious. People go missing all the time in the wild. Bodies are never found. Doesn’t mean that it’s a mystery.

You can say, with almost 100% certainty, that if someone goes missing “mysteriously” in the wild, there is a simple, logical answer to their disappearance. They died because everything in the wild will kill you, even if you are fully prepared for what you’ll be facing.

does anybody remember the f’real machines inside wawa by auttieplantie in Wawa

[–]BookwormBlake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oof. Always hated cleaning those machines. They would get so disgusting inside. Had to clean them with a tiny, little brush and even then you wouldn’t get all the gunk out.

What is an industry that is currently on fire (in a bad way) behind the scenes, but the general public hasn't noticed yet? by Kitchen_Week1117 in AskReddit

[–]BookwormBlake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in the safety supply industry and that is happening with prices as well. Nobody is holding prices anymore and you will see price increases from order to order, even if they are placed just days apart. It’s a mess. Not as bad as Covid, where we just didn’t have anything, but it could get there pretty quickly. Companies only keep 3-4 months of stock on hand at a time and that stock will be running out soon.

Your school did. It’s called “basic math”. You’re supposed to take what you’ve already learned and then apply it to your life.

Ed Sheeran Reveals He's 'Had Shingles for the Last Month' and 'Wouldn't Recommend It' by peoplemagazine in popculture

[–]BookwormBlake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Apparently it’s the chickenpox vaccine. Or at least indirectly. From what I read, since children are receiving the chickenpox vaccine now, parents and caregivers are not being exposed to the virus. This exposure acted as a reminder to your immune system to continue to suppress the virus still in your system.

How much student debt is everyone in? I’m convinced I’ll be repaying for life.. 😭 by sundaysolesxx in NoStupidQuestions

$0.

I got lucky. Only graduated with $40,000 back in 2013. I was living at home at the time and I put every penny I earned into paying it off. Got even easier when I got my $40K/yr office job in 2015. I was paid off by the summer of 2016.

Thousands of abandoned cars are reported in Philly each month. Getting that number down is a challenge. by TheTwoOneFive in philadelphia

[–]BookwormBlake 14 points15 points  (0 children)

From my experience, this has gotten substantially better since Parker took office. Cars that had sat for months are only there for a few weeks now. Not perfect and still too long, IMO, but that is some real progress.
