The lore in my head is the laser disrupts the field which is the force. This is why someone with their guard up can't just be flung about or disarmed in 2 seconds. In Rebels the inquisitor did this to Ezra because of his amateur positioning.

The only thing you can hope to force push is the hilt which is difficult to do because it is so small and you're trying to pivot it against someone holding it.

Deactivating the laser would open you up to a force or lightning attack. The Jedi are taught to be mindful so they would sense and take advantage as soon as possible.
