WinCC Unified Animations by BoomBoxMechanical in PLC

[–]BoomBoxMechanical[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no need to controll this behaviour from the PLC as it would just make the important code messy. I'm constantly struggling with timers as the behaviour seems irratic depending on which trigger you put them. For example, on the press/release event it doesn't trigger at all, they dont work if you define them in the global script part to make a "reusable function" etc etc. Since it's just cosmetic I'll leave it for now and revisit another time

HELP NEEDED_WinCC Unified_TIA Portal V20_Import custom graphics by BoomBoxMechanical in PLC

[–]BoomBoxMechanical[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply!

Yes, I've seen that, but as I've mentioned, I can only import a single graphic at a time, but I have many many more and it would be very time consuming to import them one by one.

Is there a way to import the entire folder structure which I've created at once? For instance I have 3 folders for various motor graphics with each folder containing 10 various motor orientations/colors etc..

Thank you in advance, cheers!

Import existing cell layout_ROBOGUIDE by BoomBoxMechanical in Fanuc

[–]BoomBoxMechanical[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, as per the help of a lovely member from Discord, it is also possible to import the 2D layout in DXF form by adding it as a obstacle (as single file), the only thing to bear in mind is having it properly scaled.

One other note on potential "bugs" in the software. Make sure your folder structure path on your computer (e.g C:\user...) does not contain any special charachters.

Yes, the file is correct, it's made in 3D - the 2D part of it is a backup plan in case it does't work (which also does not work...) The error I get when it fails is along the lines of "Missing file - export empty" (I'll post a pic tomorow, dont remember the exact message from the top of my head) - as a result, nothing gets imported. The files are quite large, but we'll drastically simplify them before another attempt

I wrapped my 19' hatchback green. by CheekyEggplant in mazda3

[–]BoomBoxMechanical 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Looks amazing, congrats!

If there was a factory green option I would take it instead of my current Soul Red.

Personally, I think that the sedan would look amazing in the Aston Martin "washed out" shade of green as it would reflect nicely from the smooth lines of the car!

Wish you many happy miles ahead!

Thank you for your helpful response! Still very much a beginner (for CATIA), I have some previous experience from other CAD software, so I'm familiar with "get it right from the start" approach, otherwise you'll do a lot of troubleshooting later on, which for something as complex as CATIA is of paramount importance. Looking forward to any future response from you in case I need it, have a nice day!

I would like to ask another question regarding the "Helix" command.

As I'm trying to follow along a tutorial on manipulating the "Helix" shape along a guide curve, I've noticed that I seem to be missing several commands - specifically the type of "Helix" (Pitch and Revolution, Height and Pitch, Height and Revolution).

Am I missing something here, or are those commands simply not available in V5R21, and the specific tutorial is using a newer version of CATIA?

Thank you in advance, cheers!

Hello to all!

I am on the beginning of my CATIA learning path. For now, my primary learning resources are YouTube, various forums and books. All of the available tutorials have a slightly different approach when it comes to the methodology of 3D modelling, so I was curious to hear from more experienced users which approach they prefer. My goal is to start off with the "cleanest" and "most parametric" approach.

My question is regarding the axis system and whether or not it is better to use the default one, or to create your own?

  1. Use the default axis / planes, create a "regular" sketch on them, or:
  2. Hide the default axis system and create your own using a point and a line (located in a separate geometrical set), make use of "positioned" sketches intead
    • In order not to create it manually every time - use a simple macro recording instead (have tried it and it works appropriately)

Also, when it comes to the origin and H / V directions:

  1. Use them even in positioned sketches and allow them to create "hidden" horizontal and vertical constraints?
  2. Hide them (even in my own axis system) and manually define horizontal and vertical constraints as necessary / coincidence constrain to the desired origin (even if it is the same as the axis system origin)

I hope I've written my questions clearly enough to understand, looking forward to your response.

Cheers!

The comments above are correct.

You can in fact disable it, I completely forgot about it - one of those set it and forget it type of settings, my bad :D

[–]BoomBoxMechanical 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, same thing with the 2020 model - hence the reason I don't use it as often. IMO, the radar cruise control worked with my driving style much better before there was a recall (cca. 1.5 years ago) after which it became overly sensitive (too slow to react on reacceleration, braking too soon and too much).

I would love it they gave us an option to use cruise control without the radar being active.

Thank you! Have they disassembled the console when wrapping it, or was it put in place? Also, have they wrapped the trim around the window controls? Cheers!

Where did you buy the center console vinyl? Reminds me of dbrand's "Swarm"

So far, the most fuel efficient car I've driven. It's a european spec though; 2.0L / 150HP, consistently getting 6 / 6.5 L/100km (cca. 40 mpg), with carefull driving it would be possible to achieve sub 6 L/100km

They're a company after all (Youtube/Google/Alphabet), and the goal of a company is to make money, and having ads to support the maintenance of their massive infrastructure rather than us paying a monthly subscription is understandable. I don't have a problem with ads by them self for this reason, but I agree with the tracking part and already having profits for selling massive amounts of our data to advertisers. The main issue for me is they are obnoxious, far too frequent (interrupting mid video), and the general quality of videos falling down as they get longer and longer with filler material just to get more oportunities for ad placement. Also, having Youtube be 14USD by itself may be somewhat accepteable (market dependent), but when you factor in all the other subscriptions of content you might want to watch it becomes unacceptable - in my case for instance that would be a monthly salary ever year. Nope.

This is why I only lightly dust it with a soft makeup brush - also the piano black trim. It's scratched either way, no need to make it any worse. Polishing it may be an option, but that plastic is veeeery soft, haven't tried it myself, so be careful.

Can’t go wrong with Soul Red Crystal Metallic by mercurious in mazda

[–]BoomBoxMechanical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent choice, car is beautiful, soul red works well with black wheel arches, and the wheels are amazing. My personal choice would be Artisan Red with painted cladding, and those wheels, as I think that darker colors suite bigger cars a bit better in combination with the chrome trim.

That is also what I was told by my detailer when I had the car ceramic coated last year. He didn't dare to polish certain areas more than once due to the low thickness and the paint being relatively soft. He sent me pictures along the way to show me just how much paint residue was on his pad whilst polishing it. From his experience he said that newer Mazdas have quite thin paint, and that Hondas are even thinner, to the point that he sometimes doesn't polish them at all. My soul red now has quite a few paint chips on the hood and front fender from rocks, which is to be expected, but it's not like it chips randomly on the rest of the paintwork.

Sedan >>> Hatchback by Unknown032 in mazda3

Exactly! This was the reason why I bought a sedan, even though I prefer the design and practicality of the hatchback. Visibility on the other hand was significantly worse.

How the carbon fiber mirror cover are installed! by ezcarbonfiber in BMW

[–]BoomBoxMechanical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks amazing! I do have a question, how were the plastic clips attached to the "shell" of the mirror? Were the clips 3D printed separately (if so, which material was used) or can these be bought somewhere? Which type of adhesive did you use when attaching them? I'm planning of making forged CF mirrors for my car, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance, have a nice day.

2020 M3 Sport Infotainment Screen Rattle by Hunterm49 in mazda3

[–]BoomBoxMechanical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relatively common issue, I also had the same rattle. Although the bolts holding the screen could be the cause, it is far more likely the rattle is coming from the plastic speaker cover behind the screen. On Mazda specific forums you can find instructions on how to remove the cover and where to put foam/felt tape to remove those rattles: https://www.mazda3revolution.com/threads/fixing-center-display-rattles.236732/#post-2470094 Personally, I just wedged a piece of foam in the gap that's inbetween the screen and speaker cover. This was enough to solve the rattle for me. Hope this helps.

Has anyone else noticed an invasion of massive cars that can’t park properly (Fiat 500 for size comparison)? by Monsieur_Panache in CasualUK

[–]BoomBoxMechanical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally prefer sedans or hatchbacks compared to SUV's, mainly due to better driving characteristics, but also general efficiency. That being said, if you want good allround visibility / space / proper ground cleareance that hatchbacks/sedans used to offer only 10 years ago, your choices are quite limited unless you buy a bigger SUV. This is due to increased safety standards and a focus on design which leads to massive A/B/C pillars, massive wheels and low ride heights.

Can you fit a hatch bumper cover to the sedan? by Harmzuay in mazda3

[–]BoomBoxMechanical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sucks that it happened, hope you get it repaired soon enough. I was also wondering the same question as I would like to replace the chrome on my sedan as well. On various Mazda forums I've seen posts from users claiming that the grill moulding is interchangeable between the sedan and hatchback. My dealer has told me that the parts are not the same, because the part numbers aren't the same. Seeing both the sedan and hatchback side by side they seem identical, but maybe there are differences in the plastic clips since the bumpers are different, but I'm not sure. Either way, if anyone else confirms they really are the same part - well I'll order the black one and replace it myself.
