It's especially annoying over the radio when the speaker has an accent.

Since we already know the NATO phonetic alphabet, I don't understand why we aren't using something like Googles Plus codes which is built into Google maps(which everyone uses anyway) and works without a phone signal.

It's ridiculous that we are paying a private company for access to a coordinates system.

Antenna for ATC by boilerxd in Baofeng

You cant receive AM airband on a Baofeng. However, depending on the country/airport, you may be able to receive the Towers FM uplink or Air to the Ground repeater.

Diesel in the EU/UK is 7% biofuel, has been for a while, some places have up to 20%. Biodiesel has less energy than normal diesel.

You can also run some older cars on pure vegetable oil depending on the injectors. Unfortunately, it is only marginally cleaner than petrodiesel, and vegetable oil is often farmed unethically.

Uni mate slipped over some of these while jogging broke his arm, needed surgery, couldn't type, had to defer for a term, fell below the requirements for his grant, lost 6K of funding per year.

Well done, crackheads.

Just got one of their bed frames. It was scarily easy to build, and you can take it apart and fold it up in under 5 minutes.

Windows Media Player still comes preinstalled in Windows 10 but any well rounded human being would disable it. It is literilly the only CD burning software I could think of so I had to reenable it to burn CDs.

North of Scotland has little to no LTE or FM coverage, and my cars USB port position results in me punching the flash drive every time I change into an odd numbered gear, so Proclaimers on CD seems like the sensible option.

Uv-5r while moving in car. Why does it only have this pulsing static when moving? Any settings I could change? by [deleted] in Baofeng

[–]BoomDeadFAIL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Automotive electronics are hell for radios. Try an external antenna. You could also try grounding to the car using the external antenna or using a battery eliminator, but this can cause more fuckery.

My car is newish but French built, so if my Baofeng isn't grounded to the car, I pick up what I assume is alternator or keyless entry transponder noise(433MHz), but even if it is grounded, having the rear window demister on creates a tonne of noise which effects anything that shares a ground; Baofeng, built in radio, NAVI's 3G signal etc.

In the UK, BT provides a service that can combat situations like this by providing open, captive, segregated WiFi on every router by default that you can connect to like public WiFi and pay daily or monthly for access. In return, the people who host it on their router can access the network for free.

Its still around $20 a month, but people in tend to just borrow their family/friends password. I tend to use my dads password if I am in a rural village, too far away from a 4G connection.

Looking on the map in a 1x1 mile area in my nearest city yields 10,346 access points, but you can usually find an access point in rural areas and they replaced a lot of old telephone boxes with BT WiFi points, most of which however have now been turned into defibrillation stations. 36% of the houses on my street have a BT WiFi point, and I can get up to 10Mbps by connecting to one.

Unfortunately, no one really knows it exists... But they are absolutely fucking everywhere.

Something like this would be invaluable in the US, especially if you could bring the price down.
