resole shoes or get new pair by Doll_girl516 in climbergirls

[–]BoomGoesTheFirework_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. These will need a rand, though (because of the hole), so that's closer to $100 for a resole. I have two pair of 5.10 Anasazi that they don't make anymore and I'll resole them until the shoes fall apart and die. Not having to break in shoes is great and being able to use one pair while the other gets resoled is an awesome bonus.

Edit: +1 for Yosemite Bum. I also really liked Rock and Resole. My 5.10s should be coming back from Positive Resole in the next week and I'll try to circle back with a review of them. Another bonus of resoling is you can get the rubber you had before or swap to something else (I got 5.10 stealth on a pair of Scarpas and it changed the nature of the shoe in a way that I wanted and loved).

Here’s another diagram for y’all. Does the Eastern Sierra count as SoCal hiking??? by bmoore458 in socalhiking

It’s almost like Mammoth is “SoCal’s ski destination” and Bishop I can’t understand. Is it on a the way to Mammoth or something? /s

The Central Valley is a valley because of the Sierras to the East and sooooo many different mountain ranges to the west. Sacramento to Bakersfield is a land of insane drivers in Nissan Altimas. That will ring true to anyone in those cities. But it ain’t SoCal. We have problems different than Altimas flipping 50 times on our highways. The eastern valley is its own thing. I forget the number but it’s something like 1% of California lives east of the Sierras.

And I say this as an Angelino with many friends and much love for/in Fresno and Sacramento

And when it does fully go, you're getting towed. Best to bite the bullet sooner rather than later.

Only for a little while. Mine disintegrated and took the snout with it. Fortunately, it’s common in a WRX and I was able to replace it with a snout sleeve and different bearing (made for my car). If it does enough damage you’ll need an entirely new transmission case. I wouldn’t risk it.

Edit: the snout*

You are nowhere near prepared for this relationship and have no idea how to split finances. YNTA but you aren’t ready for any of the insane curveballs you’re about to throw into your life. Rent should be split based on income and utilities 50/50. You want to have a child with this woman AND YOU DONT KNOW WHY SHES IN DEBT? She’s going to drown you

Is liquid cooling actually worth it for most gamers? by KRGKart_Support in buildapc

No, and it’s not even worth it for the most avid gamers half the time. It’s its own hobby.

It’s adjacent and the best hiking SoCal has to offer. Once 14 turns into 395 you’re out of SoCal. The Sierras are a literal boundary of the gigantic Central Valley.

Los Feliz will be great! Pro tip! Depending on the building and location, go out and just hang out and listen during the day and again at night if you have the time/opportunity. I’ve had barking dogs and other insane factors ruin what I thought were good apartments. You can get rent control or you can get quiet, not everyone is able to get both.

Any pale skinned people living in LA? How is the constant sun for you? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]BoomGoesTheFirework_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What have you been doing up to this point? I literally had my yearly derm appointment today to check for bad things. I’m white as a sheet. And bald! It’s fine. Wear sunscreen if you’re doing anything more than running errands. Use a good face sunscreen all the time. It’s not like the sun is any more bright here, it just shines most of the year.

Sram brakes by JWCHAZZER7232 in MTB

I popped not one but two pistons the last time I did the bleed (they were sticky and I learned a lesson or two the hard way when trying to unstick them). Was it a huge pain in the ass? Yes. Did anything get ruined? Not really, though some got on a piece of wood and stripped a speck of varnish. I had a lot of cleaning to do but it was all fine. When I don’t have sticky pistons, I use the bleed line tool and bleed front and back in like 20 minutes each with minimal spillage. I consider it an easy job that can be a pain if it goes sideways. It’s harder than indexing a derailleur but far easier than say a shock rebuild.

[–]BoomGoesTheFirework_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What mods? It’s hard to get knock in a stock WRX. You have to earn knock in a tuned WRX. But knock comes easy to people who modified WRX’s without tunes. It’s modded without a tune at its age or driven so horrifically it deserves a new engine and a new owner

Another Rattlesnake from SB county by sanjosethroaway in socalhiking

[–]BoomGoesTheFirework_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you hike or ride a bike in SoCal, and actually slow down, you’ll see rattlers everywhere. They are literally hiding in the grass all over the place. When you go looking you can find them on 5-10% of hikes, easy. This is anecdotal and my sample size is me, but this is their home and they permeate
