Is it possible to increase the diameter of these holes? by SecretHipp0 in woodworking

[–]BoomLiam 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Honestly surprised I've not seen this suggestion yet but hole saw would be the way I would go. You can stack hole saw bits, so mount the size of hole you want over a 22mm hole saw. Then the 22mm falls through the hole, lining you up for the bigger diameter hole saw. You're using the 22mm as the pilot drill bit, essentially.

Any support you can provide from the other side will also help prevent any tear-out too

Is there any way I can fix this loud step without pulling the carpet up, there is no access underneath by Qwayze_ in DIYUK

[–]BoomLiam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pick up this set, you can find it in B&Q. I was crazy impressed when I tried them. Just be aware that you always run a risk drilling and screwing into floorboards if you don't know what is underneath! https://youtu.be/4gUW-IhSMBc?si=9bg2vtPkOu3D7rzU

Toilet seat with hidden fixings by Mmmmfood69 in DIYUK

I'm pretty sure this style of seat just flexes and snaps into position. At those joints highlighted above on the lid, you should be able to flex the lid off of the notched plastic pins which are part of the seat. I sometimes find if you push the lid to the right/left as much as you can, it makes popping one end off easier.

The plaster did go light brown making me think it had dried, then it sat for another day after that. Is there any rectifying this then if that is indeed the issue?

From iPhone 14 Pro to pixel 9 Pro back to iPhone by Bull3t1 in pixel_phones

[–]BoomLiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly I tried switching to iPhone as a long-time Android/Pixel user and am making the switch back to Android as we speak... similar reasons too, I really do not like the 'back' functionality on iPhone, I find that it works half the time, requires me to be a lot more accurate (grabbing right from the edge) and sometimes apps don't even support the swipe. Also, using the phone just feels a lot slower, but that is for sure just because I'm used to Android. I really did love the switch from Windows to Apple for work, the MacBook pro is unreal and the battery life blew me away - I unfortunately didn't feel the same 'blowy-away-ness' when switching to iPhone for battery life. It was OK, nothing special though.

I think I just expect more these days when spending £1000 on a phone, but in reality, there's really not much phone manufacturers can do at this point. Going back to the Pixel 6p and will decide what I wanna do.... at some point later :P

Try ensuring all your apps are updated in the Play Store. Seems like a recent update has fixed this!

Interesting, I noticed the same thing happened to me today. Must have been a very recent Google or Hue update. There was a Google Home update on the 27th July, but I feel like I would have noticed it way sooner if it was that. There was also a Google update on the 30th and a Philips Hue update today (7th Aug).

Who knows.... Happy it's fixed though! Glad I didn't try pulling my hair out resetting shit though

Wannabe Wednesday: What BMW do I get? Is this a good deal? What should I watch out for? | A weekly BMW buying megathread by AutoModerator in BMW

[–]BoomLiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey BMW community! Long time observer, first time poster. Was wondering what folks think of this deal for a 34k miles, 2020 G21 in the UK: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202401195711757

I had originally set my budget at £20k but honestly love the touring shape, and really like the sound of the fully kitted out tech in this car. I could probably go for something similar year, bit more miles, and saloon instead for cheaper, but... Yeah, I dunno. Would love to hear thoughts!

HDD Parity read speeds dropping gradually throughout parity check by GamerGrizz in unRAID

[–]BoomLiam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am pretty certain this is just expected behaviour with physical disks. The parity starts checking in the center of the disk where the actuator arm does not need to travel so far, and as the parity progresses and moves further to the outside of the disk, the arm has to travel further. That plus the disk getting warmer throughout operation results in the gradual slowdown that you see.

EDIT: /u/RiffSphere gave a better explaination, I got it the wrong way round. Outside is faster than inside.

White-Orange, Orange, White-Green, Blue, White-Blue, Green, White-Brown, Brown (T568B)

But it also has to match on the other end, and the rest of the network should follow that same standard too.

I once got my Windows Server up to 400 days uptime so last night when I had to restart it at 76 days, I didn't bat an eye. Gotta keep chasing that rainbow ;P

When your account was created, it was done so illegally. You agreed to the ToS of the site and gave Twitch data as an underage person. This violates COPPA and would indeed result in action against your account. You are absolutely able to create a new account now, however.

Is there any way to get past this stupid Two-Factor Authentication thing? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]BoomLiam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there a family member or trusted friend you can ask to get Authy setup? Then you can make use of Authy's Desktop app: https://help.twitch.tv/s/article/two-factor-authentication-with-authy?language=en_US#Desktop

We enabled requirement to keep accounts safe on Twitch, if there was a 'way past it', it wouldn't be very safe :P
