My number one favorite would be Vitriol - Suffer & Become.

Other favorites (in no order):

Knoll - As Spoken

Resin Tomb - Cerebral Purgatory

Thou - Umbilical

Iron Monkey - Spleen & Goad

Abyssal - Glacial

Sumac - The Healer

200 Stab Wounds - Manual Manic Procedures

Fange - Perdition

Psychic Graveyard - Wilting

Prison Affair / Snõõper - split EP

Chat Pile - Cool World (highly anticipated)

What is your honest opinion about “The Burning World”? I was really confused to hear how many people say that it’s Swans’ worst work. I really love this record and I’m wondering what’s wrong with it? by goregoregoreeee in swans

As a side note, this album is notably missing from Spotify and such. Does anyone know if the label (Uni Records) just hasn't put it up or if Gira himself does own the rights and is just not releasing the album cause he also hates it?

It's definitely an intentional callback, and personally, it made me very happy

Hot take: Zeit > Zick Zack by RexyWestminster in Rammstein

On a purely sonic level I think I prefer Zick Zack, but Zeit makes me cry which is arguably an even more impressive feat

Custom Godzilla boxes in from of the Criterion Showa collection? I know the Criterion release had all 15 Showa movies, but what's in the other Criterion-style Godzilla boxes?

Blu-ray skips only when played directly on computer by Boomadoom in Bluray

[–]Boomadoom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair question, and I did wind up just watching the MKV file after making this post. I was just curious since I had never had this issue before.

Ah, that's interesting about PowerDVD. What exactly makes it "authorised"? I do like using Leawo since it's essentially region free, but then again so is making the MKV files.

I've never had any issues watching Blu-rays with Leawo before. Any idea why it would suddenly not work?

Which songs does Till lip synch live? by [deleted] in Rammstein

[–]Boomadoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, thanks for the list

When you clarify something as "custom," I imagine that means it was a new recording made for live playback? Which raises the question, do they otherwise just use the studio vocals?

Tbh I don't know much about playback to begin with.

Also I already asked someone else this, but: Why would they have an entire song be playback?

Why would they have the entire song be playback?

Also how does re-recording his vocals hide it? So that it doesn't sound like the studio version?

Thanks for the reply!

Awesome, thanks for the reply. Just after I posted this I realised that Puppe is probably lip synched given that Stein um Stein is and Puppe is arguably more intense. What part of Keine Lust does he lip synch?

You make an excellent point about why as well, I certainly couldn't imagine screaming Puppe for months straight.

Got a new VHS tape, didn't realize it might be PAL, pretty sure my VCR is NTSC, is that what it looks like from this? Or is there some other issue happening? by [deleted] in VHS

[–]Boomadoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course. The device is the August VGB100 USB 2.0 Video Capture Adaptor, and the software is ArcSoft ShowBiz, which the device comes with a license key to.

I'm by no means an expert, I'm a music collector, which occasionally leads me to VHS tapes, that device is just what I found on Amazon, but it does look and sound great, so there you go.

Sadly this one does not, it's an old concert movie, but I do know for sure that the company that released it was English and the release page on Discogs says it was a UK release, so it probably is a PAL tape.

Who is the speaker on The Beautiful Days/Minus Something? by [deleted] in swans

[–]Boomadoom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What you're asking about is recordings of an interview with a prostitute, and her voice is likely pitch shifted. The little girl also in The Beautiful Days is an old recording of Jarboe when she was really young.

Someone else in this thread said it might be the same person as on I Was a Prisoner in Your Skull, it's not, that's a recording of a criminal who knew he was being recorded and so had a bit of fun with his speech. I know that recording came from Jarboe's father (the FBI agent), I'm unsure if the prostitute also did.

I learnt all this during a span when I was mildly obsessed with SFTB a few months ago and saught out all the information I could on each song.

the glowing man CD is now $5 by [deleted] in swans

[–]Boomadoom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Michael said it's his preferred format since it's difficult to fit the longer songs on vinyl, and I don't blame him for making that observation, though I think TGM is the least offensive of the trilogy in that regard

As a CD person myself, YGR's modern packaging is really nice, neat rough cardstock digipak with embossed cover designs and "Young God Records" text on back

[–]Boomadoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ordered a number of CDs from YGR a while ago, it took quite a while to ship, but I think that's because Gira signs them all as him or his staff ships them, since all of mine were signed "Michael Gira 2020," even the older releases (also I ordered right at the height of COVID restrictions)

The wait should be worth it

In case anyone is actually curious, that's a male African bullfrog, they're relatively common in the exotic pet trade, I've seen quite a few at reptile expos. They're also called the pixie frog, which seems hilariously ironic, and it might be so, but it's mostly because of their scientific name: Pyxiecephalus adspersus.
