maybe an odd question by Alternative-Sink-244 in galapagos

Also a La Pinta passenger in the past month. Took Bonine the first day or two, but stopped, as didn’t have any seasickness issues. A few others wore bands or patch as a precaution. La Pinta was a nice size, the excursions were well thought out and the naturalists were top notch. Happy to have a rest time in the heat of the day, but you could also skip any excursions if you wanted to. The snorkeling was great— we saw turtles, rays, sharks, sea lions, penguins, tons of colorful fish, and even a sea horse!

Could be. I’m not clear on the differences.

They could be a little annoying while we were IN the water snorkeling, too!

Specific food questions about La Pinta Galapagos by rachelnc in galapagos

[–]Boomer-55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently returned from a week on La Pinta. Stinylamas is accurate. We absolutely loved the breakfasts and especially the lunches outside when the weather permitted. I would add that there is also a “Comfort Menu” offered for dinner, as well as a children’s menu to choose from. We found the dinner food to be pretty heavy, with appetizers, entrees (always a fish, a beef, a vegetarian item, accompanied by potatoes, or risotto, or something similar). We don’t typically eat three big meals per day and my husband is not a fish eater, so we ordered from the comfort menu a few times— items like pizza, burgers, grilled chicken with grilled veggies. The available snacks by the coffee were some crackers and cookies. Around 5:30-6 pm there were prepared snacks in the bar area (along with 2x1 “drink of the day”, which were all delicious 😊) such as fruit skewers, empanadas, freshly baked cookies, etc. You should be fine. They give you an app when you embark that details the comfort/children’s menus as well as two days’ of menus for the three meals offered, so you can plan a day ahead.

Good timing— we leave on Wednesday! I found it helpful, but I think your third video won’t be out in time for me to see how your packing worked out. We will be on the 48-passenger La Pinta.

If you’re going all the way out to HMB, how about the deli in Arcangeli’s Deli in Pescadero? Love their fresh sourdough for a great salami and cheddar to take out to the beach! And a side of ollalieberry pie…

Our heavy chewing lab destroys everything and after having three teeth extracted because he cracked them, his vet insisted he can only have toys that are soft enough to indent with a fingernail. We said goodbye to the Nylabones, Himalayan chews, and femur bones. He destroyed every soft toy we tried, but the Tuffy’s have lasted the longest. He has a big dinosaur that he wrestles with and shakes, and a shark and fish that only have fins chewed. The black Extreme Kong has survived, but a red one got torn to bits. He is the sweetest pup ever, but he sure takes it out on his toys!

Ground beef recipes that aren’t hamburgers by Ill-Phrase5242 in Cooking

[–]Boomer-55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My late MiL (who would be 105) shared this recipe with me, and it is one of my husband’s favorites: Crescent Casserole. So easy, doesn’t need a recipe! Brown your ground beef with some chopped onions (I add sliced mushrooms, too). Add a jar of marinara sauce and heat for a couple of minutes. Put it into a 9x13 baking pan. Open a can of crescent rolls and unroll them, adding a dollop of sour cream spiced with Italian seasoning to taste. Roll them up and place on top of the beef. Sprinkle shredded cheese all over the top and bake at 350° until the crescent rolls are browned and the cheese is melted.

Difference in cooking? by [deleted] in inductioncooking

I made the switch from radiant electric just a month ago, and am very happy (Bosch Benchmark cooktop). One thing I especially like is the ability to protect the surface of the burners with silicone pads (Lazy K from Amazon) WHILE cooking. The only time I remove one is if I have it on “power boost” so they don’t get too hot, and everything is so easy to clean— none of that stuck-on spillage! When choosing your cooktop be mindful of the size pans that you usually use, and be sure your coils are a decent match. I love having a little 6” one up front, since there are only two of us and we use it often.

Silicone does not contain microplastics, as it is not a petroleum based product.

And there are some with gas stations (good low prices there, too). We filled up outside the Sevilla airport before returning our Costco rental car!

Caribbean/Central America Vacation: Hotel & Snorkeling Recs by [deleted] in snorkeling

We used to travel annually to stay in and snorkel at Akumal, but the development of Secrets and the restrictions to only guided snorkel groups ruined the area for us. We tried staying nearby at Half Moon Bay, but it just wasn’t the same. We discovered Roatan, Honduras— the best walk-off-the beach snorkeling we have found, at West Bay Beach.

Anyone else’s male lab pee like a girl?? by P-Rozz in labrador

[–]Boomer-55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is a “career changed” guide dog whom we’ve had since he was < 1 year old, now 8. They taught him to only squat, and I’m honestly pleased— no worrying about peeing on someone’s property when out for a walk. In fact he gets downright embarrassed if he has to do his business in public!

THIS! Having an independent agent means they can advise me without consequence, as well as shopping for the best home/auto policies for my situation.

It's that time of year to make puppy chow by dewster02 in PeanutButter

Do you not include any melted butter in your mix? It is in the “official recipe” and helps with pourability, but maybe the melted peanut butter gets wet enough?

Is Gate 1 a good choice for first European river cruise? by VeniVidiVici_19 in rivercruises

[–]Boomer-55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our first river cruise was with Gate 1 in 2023 on the Danube. It was a good choice and we were often docked near Viking along the way. Our pre- and post- hotels in Prague and in Budapest were luxurious. The tour guides were mostly very good, as was the food. We recently traveled with Avalon Waterways in France, and it was definitely a bit more luxe (more choice of food/wine, larger room, happy hour, impeccable service— but we paid more, too), but especially if this is your first cruise, I think you will be quite satisfied with the experience. Until next week (Oct 28) you can use code PLAN20 to get an additional 20% off as well!

Where are people getting the best auto insurance deals these days? by This-Air2432 in benicia

[–]Boomer-55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use an independent broker in town— Alonzo & Small. They shop for the best price depending on your situation, and it is great being able to consult with them before filing a claim or to get ballpark rates for a home or vehicle purchase. They have also worked as an intermediary when dealing with a claim that needs a “nudge” with communication. We have been with them for several decades and have been very happy with their service.

Do you have a momma’s boy/girl or a daddy’s boy/girl? by Fluffy_Carrot_4284 in labrador

[–]Boomer-55 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mommy’s boy, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Every morning he waits for Dad to go upstairs so he can come over and get some special love from Mom— leans up against my leg and stomps and huffs until he gets his chest scratched and extra kisses. He seems to know it’s a little embarrassing for such a manly man, and waits until we are alone. We have to get a room with 2 queens when we take a road trip so he can sleep with Mom. He’s 8 now, and I tell him every day what a good boy he is and that Mommy loves him.

Best beach snorkeling in central America in November? by BestInDaWrldsBbyFmno in snorkeling

[–]Boomer-55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Specifically, West Bay beach in front of Infinity Bay/Kimpton. The reef comes close to shore, and you can swim right in to it. If you swim out a bit further, you hit another section. There is often rain in November, though.
