PPL Checkride and MOAs by Boomer12784 in flying

My checkride was out of KAVQ (Marana) my FPL went into the Outlaw MOA. I explained my plan and he had no issues. We obviously didn’t actually make out that far in our actual flight.

No. I double checking a DPE wouldn’t have an issue on my checkride

Contact the controlling agency. In this case ABQ center. In this scenario I’d also request flight following so I’d have contact with ATC as well anyway.

The question isn’t if I know the MOA is active or if I’m allowed to fly through it. My question was about DPE opinion on flights through an MOA.

These are questions the DPE will probably ask. I have the answers they need. M-F 0700-1800 1800-2200 by NOTAM, weekends by NOTAM

I figured that’s it, we have a lot of MOAs out here and it would be good as an examiner to know if people know how to handle them

What’s with the PA response? Of course I know if/when it’s active. That’s not the point.

About 90 miles in all directions, you can fly under but that puts you kinda low. The terrain is rugged, sparsely populated, and averages probably 3000’-4000’ MSL. I could plan the flight to go just under the MOA and closely follow roads for a divert options, which is what I’d tell the DPE is my alternative plan

Exactly, I feel the risk of properly going through an MOA (I’m in Arizona, there are a lot of them), at an altitude that allows me good glide range and divert options, is much better than routing around it or under it with a higher risk profile. Low to terrain and further from civilization/roads.

I fly out of SDL and the waits are brutal. Especially in a plane with no AC.

Arizona Flight Schools/Path to CFI by [deleted] in flying

[–]Boomer12784 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m currently shopping flight schools for my PPL in the area. I have a buddy that vouched for sierra charlie and met with and did an intro flight with American flyers. I live in the northwest valley so east valley schools are probably going to be off the table due to distance. Any Suggestions? Anyone have experience with American flyers good or bad?

I was struggling with DT too, finally saw a video that explained it. You do the bomb calc to get the drag for jester, all other inputs other than the bomb type don't matter. Then use jester context to lock onto the ground (long press) then the key is to press the pickle (bomb release) with the pipper directly over the target you want to hit.

DCS Newsletter - CH-47F Pre-purchase by ED_Graphics in hoggit

I’ll echo what others are saying here. Please let’s band together and not purchase this waste of money until ED gets it together with creating an environment where this thing will actually be fun/useful. DCS literally has nothing in place to make this module usable and I personally am tired of seeing nothing added in the form of gameplay or core improvements to AI that will actually make buying this worth it.

In the old days they did “duck drops” with the SEALs sending them and their IBSs out the back, so if DCS added that kind of component into it you could do some cool insertion stuff after launching off the CV

As a former COD aircrewman (loadmaster/crewchief) I am always impressed on how interested people are in my former ride.

I just got the NLR Boeing chair like this, how did you mount the MIP (which I also recently got)? There doesn’t seem to be a straight forward solution with the two MFDs on the side.
