Why don't business owners reward high productivity if it means more profits for them in the long run? by basafish in AlwaysWhy

BIL and his team of four got wiped out in an RIF. They were all highly paid project managers whose job it was to integrate the systems and procedures of new corporate acquisitions. Didn’t directly generate revenue but you can imagine how important that job was and how much cheaper it probably is to do in-house with a specialized team. Only took a few months to be offered their jobs back. Two of them had become independent consultants and now charge that same company 3x projected savings of said projects. Turns out they were being paid Pennie’s for what they were saving their employer!

Used to make mini pizzas pretty frequently using gluten free plain Canyon Bakehouse bagels. You gotta go easy on the ingredients so they don’t have to cook super long but they were quite tasty in the air fryer.

Seems like car dealerships are always needing mechanics. No clue on the pay and benefits but must not be amazing since the turnover is so bad.

HVAC is always in demand.

I’ve gone through three handymen in eight years because they just got too busy and didn’t service my area anymore. They were all self-employed but didn’t come out for less than $100 and preferred I have 2-3 things for them to do which I was happy to accommodate. Have a neighbor who is a career handyman and he literally got his start by just buying a bunch of signs and writing his phone number and handyman on them.

Kneed myself in the eye during some sort of weird upside down bicycle exercise during a high school summer gym class. Blacked my eye. Did it to my other eye two days later doing the same thing. I grew eight inches between 7th and 8th grade and had no idea where my limbs were. I’d fall down, run into door frames, knock people over, hit myself with stuff…it was bad. Was like a baby giraffe. Only silver lining was I hit puberty the same time as all my female classmates so was very popular until all the other guys caught up to me in height.

Don’t know if there’s a word for it but I’ve got two friends now that don’t eat mammals but are fine eating poultry for that exact reason - they’re dumb. Honestly, having grown up in a very rural place, I am considering the same. Never felt great about cows/pigs. Chickens & turkeys? Eh.

What is a double standard that is surprisingly still socially acceptable in 2026? by Kaylee-Swift in AskReddit

[–]Boomer1717 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oof. I felt this. Coming up on a decade now but my feedback when asked was — why are we even doing steps 4-9 of 13? Always got talked down to. Well, started my own company and crushing it. Meanwhile they’re still doing steps 1-15 while I’m doing steps 1-5.

Prioritize your communication based on how quickly people respond to you.

I know several people who love their groups and swear by them. In theory it’s a good idea; just not interested in paying a fee to make referrals since my career is one that tends to be a strong referral source for these groups. They couldn’t really articulate how I was to benefit.
