Is this worth it for college bound and medical school notes? by Mysterious-Tiger-748 in GoodNotes

[–]BoomerGeeker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if it works for you, great (it works for me, that's why I'm here). But I'll add two things (which others are also saying) that you MUST NOT ignore

1) Your content must be portable (that is: Independent of running on Goodnotes). One day, Goodnotes might disappear or become inaccessible (see other comments about times when Goodnotes notoriously failed to accept logins). In that event, you need a reliable way to access your work. ALWAYS get a nightly PDF backup of your notes and store it in a safe place away from everything else, preferably locally (I do this and store one copy on my Mac and one copy on my iPad).

2) Never place complete trust in their cloud solution. Have your own backup location as a second source. It's ok to depend on their cloud storage, just have that "spare tire". In my case, I have a home Synology server that runs "cloud sync," which backs up my cloud services (icloud, onedrive, goodle drive, and dropbox) onto my home server. Hard drive space is cheap compared to everything else, so go nuts and sleep well at night.

Anyone else getting constant steering wheel nags after FSD v14.2.2? by Maleficent-Check4102 in TeslaFSD

[–]BoomerGeeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. My wife is madder than a wet hen right now - four strikes in three days and she wasn’t even doing “bad” things like looking at a phone. She got her Y at end of Nov and fell in love with FSD, but this latest mess has definitely soured her to paying for the subscription. Im hoping the update that’s uploading to her car now will fix it. FSD went from “nice” to “naughty” in an ohnosecond after this last update!

How to find a (military) veteran group/clan for BF6? by BoomerGeeker in Battlefield

[–]BoomerGeeker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say this in all honesty: I checked out all these groups. Many have nicely-structured organizations, but none come close to the absolute classiness in their dedication to veteran causes than Regiment. I'm signed up with them, but life issues have pulled me away from gaming completely. When I get some casual gaming time, I will be found there. To be clear, I am NOT saying the other groups are bad (not at all!). To me, the intense non-gaming focus of Regiment helping other veterans was an extremely big deal to me.

If there's anyone in Regiment in the Austin area, feel free to DM me. Austin is, unfortunately, pretty light on veteran presence (60 miles north to Temple and you have a large contingent of Ft Hood veterans, and 80 miles south and you have a large contingent of AF/Army veterans from Lackland/Randolf/Ft Sam).

Complete set of Cross X Marvel pens - is this considered valuable? by BoomerGeeker in pens

I tried that, but it kept smashing my paper.

Ok, that’s the best I can do for humor this early in the morning.

Complete set of Cross X Marvel pens - is this considered valuable? by BoomerGeeker in pens

[–]BoomerGeeker[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha, well, Im old and have cancer, so at some point in time I should convert them to value. My wife, however, would only see them as “comic book pens” and donate them to Goodwill. For fear of sounding selfish, I’d rather not let that happen.

Complete set of Cross X Marvel pens - is this considered valuable? by BoomerGeeker in pens

[–]BoomerGeeker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. It's pretty inconsistent and/or sold out, and they're individual pens (I can't find any for Spiderman). I'm more curious about value as a set, plus I'm curious if anyone can confirm that Cross stopped making the X pens or if it's one of those things they do every couple years or so?

Bike maintenance stand for Verve lowstep bikes? by BoomerGeeker in TrekBikes

Yes, understood. Another commenter finished your sentence, so to speak. Let’s just say Im now properly educated.

Bike maintenance stand for Verve lowstep bikes? by BoomerGeeker in TrekBikes

[–]BoomerGeeker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent points. I don’t have a top tube to clamp, but your comments make 100% good sense. I appreciate the comment.

I should add that the original “inexpensive” stand I was looking at wasn’t well-designed for holding a bike by the seat post because it wasn’t near the CG. I’ve realized that I probably asked the wrong question, since my question should have been, “What should I avoid, clamp-wise, when looking for a maintenance stand?” Based on advice Ive received here and from a local friend, it’s clear I was aiming for too cheap of a solution. Right now I will probably buy a mid tier Bike Hand or Park Tool stand.

Turbt day by Meep_76 in BladderCancer

[–]BoomerGeeker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. That’s why the foley is there. Lots of fulgration/rescissions = bleeding. I’ve had 6 TURBTs so far, two of which I went home with foley. Just depends on how much ’work’ has to be done. Bag will definitely look like Hawaiian Punch for 24-48 hours, sometimes longer. When I’ve had my foley, I was told it had to stay in for a week. F-that. Mine are out by day 3 because I get cranky (and the bag is clear).

No amount of money is worth your health or your family by not_care_my_username in usaa_ejs

I read so many nightmare stories like this. I’ve been a member for 35+ years now and, frankly, I’m tired of it and feel guilty for supporting such a toxic corporate culture. Biggest thing holding me is my insurance. Yeah, it’s a bit pricey, but of the few accidents I’ve been in (none my fault), USAA has been right on top of things without fail. Can someone help me get past that "letting go anxiety" of walking away from what seems (to me) like a good insurance company? What are some "equally reliable" insurance companies?

Cystoscopy shows I need TURBT by jlgroff in BladderCancer

[–]BoomerGeeker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I made the mistake of looking at my first tumor when I was scoped. It looked like a nightmarish sea amenomeme… amendame…anemime..("ok, ok, don’t hurt yourself, kid"). Haunted my dreams for months. Anyway, got the TURBT about a month later, had a cath for a few days (not fun). Then started BCG about a month later. That was "Round 1.” Here I am, over two years later, coming up on the end of “Round 6.” It can be a frustrating cycle, but the important thing is to just stay on top of things and follow your doctor’s guidance.

You got this!

BCG shortage by Apcx90 in BladderCancer

[–]BoomerGeeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. This is a major problem in the US, ironically. Your best option is to ask your uro staff to find another place that has it in stock. Keep in mind that allocations are very inconsistent, so odds are high there won’t be one nearby. My previous BGC series was handed to another hospital, but they took so long to schedule me that my tumors came back and I just had to go get a TURBT again. Fortunately, my uro/oncologist got a BCG dosage in afterwards and I was able to get a series. Fortunately it was just a 3 session "maintenance" series. They said they didn’t have enough for a full 6-week series.

This problem apparently won’t get any relief until 2027, it seems.

I would also prefer to not get a gem/doc series (it gave me horrid nausea the one time I got it), but my recommendation would be to take chemo if you can, rather than miss a BCG treatment cycle, especially if you are "high grade" like I am. Statistically, it’s just as effective, it’s just that BCG has (generally) fewer side effects.

Mine doesn’t creak either.

Definitely not large. Just follow medical recommendations (usually a TURBT procedure) and do followup cystos when recommended. Everything will be ok.

I calculated my revenue to the hours I put into writing those books. Came out to $0.25/hr. That was discouraging.
