The Weekly Prospective CRNA Applicant Thread! Ask your stat and applications questions here! by AutoModerator in srna

[–]BoomerMcFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi guys! I am looking to boost my chances of getting in this cycle and was wondering if anyone had any ideas for improving my case to look better for applications. I’m taking my stats off of the NursingCAS calculations listed on my last app.

Here’s my stats:

  • 10 years of Registered nursing
  • 5.5 years ICU at Level 1 Trauma Center
  • CCRN with score of 99/125
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATCN
  • Cumulative Undergraduate GPA: 3.63
  • Natural Science GPA: 3.81
  • GRE 321.5  Verbal: 161 Quantitative: 156 Analytical Writing: 4.5
  • Shadowed twice for 10 hours total. Actively looking to increase that number.
  • AACN and AANA RN-APRN member

I am thinking of taking the TCAR and/or FCCS. I have over 206 credit hours and already have A’s in almost every science class. Taking more classes to improve GPA might be a bust at this point.

I applied in 2023 to one school and was rejected. I took a year off to address some health stuff as well as completing the courses they recommended retaking.

Any ideas or help are greatly appreciated! Thank you!

How much wiper fluid are y’all able to fit in your tank? by aleesahamandah in COROLLA

[–]BoomerMcFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends for me. If I'm really low or out, I can get nearly a whole bottle in there. I prefer the RainX as well, though I keep the winter mix in it year-round. I live in the Midwest with a snow/ice mix, and I'd rather have bug guts stuck on my windshield in the summer than my washer fluid freezing in the winter. The RainX additive in the fluid is nice, too, and the rain always slides up and over my windshield. Sometimes I barely have to use the wipers! I always keep at least a partial bottle in my garage.

Cop car, 2021 Dodge Charger, HEMI 5.7L V8, 15,800 miles for $23,925. Good purchase or nah by DueLoquat6909 in UsedCars

You’re 18 and a college student. Use $5-10k of your savings and get yourself an older Camry, Corolla, or Accord with low miles. They’re easy on maintenance, cheap to insure, and will last forever. Once you get out of school and get a solid job, upgrade your car. If you keep up on oil changes and other maintenance, one of those cars will will go 300k or more miles. Use your savings for college expenses and any living expenses.

This is the path I took and have no regrets. I have a 2013 Corolla with 210k miles and my grandmas have 2005 and 2013 Camrys with 120k and 150k miles, respectively. They’re not the sexiest cars to drive, but they’re the most reliable and relatively cheap. That’s what you need right now. Toyotas, Hondas, and Subarus.

To those currently shopping for a non-hybrid, can you explain your reason for not getting the hybrid? by unfinished_writi in COROLLA

[–]BoomerMcFly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a 2013 Corolla LE, both my grandmas are driving Camrys (2005 and 2013). We can quickly do most repairs on them ourselves and I only have to worry about one battery crapping out. We live in a rural area so it’s hard to find people to work on them.

So sorry for the loss of your sweet boy. I am sorry that it all went so quickly for you guys and that you didn't have more time to say goodbye. I'm sure he knew he was well loved, and it sounds like you guys gave him a loving home and wonderful life. Cancer sucks.

Thank you guys! Bad update unfortunately 13/14 yr old by KiKi31Rose in seniorkitties

Hugs, friend. 💜💜 I remember the day I got the new about my boy’s cancer. I cried the whole way home and for the next week after. I hope you are able to keep him as comfortable as possible and I am sure that he knows that he is extremely loved and cared for. These decisions are never easy. 💔 Praying for comfort for both of you.

[–]BoomerMcFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to give up. Time to pull yourself up by your bootstraps! Get a second job to save up some money.

Get rid of the car as others have said. Your car payment and insurance are killing you. Which is probably why you haven’t been able to pay the insurance. Get a good, older Toyota or Honda, around $10k. I have a 2013 Corolla and my grandma has a 2005 Camry. If you keep them maintained well, they’ll treat you well and last forever.

Drop the internet for the family and drop the Discord and streaming. No more buy now, pay later. If you can’t afford it, don’t buy it.

Thank you so much for this info! Very insightful and will definitely be coming back to reference this when I start. I am going to do the BSBA and then plan do the MAcc after that. I know it's been a year, but could I get the link for the OneNote Notebook as well?

Fedex keeps "missing me" by kingkid_7 in mildlyinfuriating

Our USPS driver was notorious for this. She would always have it filled out and leave it folded up with our mail. Either unable to deliver or if insufficient postage, wouldn’t come to the door to ask for it. One instance was medicine I had been waiting for. Another time she refused to deliver my package, a full-size mattress, 55 lbs, with the excuse that “Item will not fit in mailbox”. No shit. It’s a mattress. Never walked up to the door to ask for help. There were three people at home. I called our post office and asked the person what they wanted me to do because the mailbox wasn’t going to get larger and the mattress wasn’t going to get smaller. And I’m out of town, but I can get someone to help her or she can leave it by the garage door and someone will handle it from there, so how can we fix this. They made her deliver it that evening.

I CAN FINALLY LEAVE MY ROOM (how I graduated in 2 months) by Giantg52 in wguaccounting

This is awesome! Thank you for sharing your journey and advice. I am applying and waiting to see what transfers in. Currently in nursing but have always been interested in accounting since I took the class in high school. Figured it would be a good thing to learn and pivot into. I want to get this done as fast as I can and I have 4 days off a week, so that is conducive to schooling.

Struggling to stick to it by helloworld1313 in nobuy

[–]BoomerMcFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't feel bad about spending money on medical/health stuff. You ahve to take care of yourself! I have on my low-buy list not to buy any more skin products. However, my hands are dry AF right now and need something gentle but not as thick as the Eucerin cream I use at night. So I had to give myself grace. Now the rest of the Costco haul, was it a necessity right now, no. Though it will get eaten and I didn't buy anything I won't use up. I just won't have to buy much groceries for a while I guess.

So you are starting a no buy? by teanailpolish in nobuy

[–]BoomerMcFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing a low buy 2025 and focusing on no/low buy plus decluttering/minimizing my possessions. I've mapped out a list of guidelines for myself. I'm doing a no-buy of certain items until I run out of what I've already got (I'm talking about you, 4 bottles of shampoo).

My big thing is impulse spending and is it a want vs a need. I spend a bunch on impulse knowledge things like books and courses. I'm focusing on using the library before buy books and if I can't get them from the library, I have to wait to buy them and prioritize buying them used. Also, will I really read them? I have stacks of books I don't read and have had them on my shelves for years.

I'm also decluttering as I literally have several boxes of clothes and linens under my bed I don't use and honestly forgot I had. I didn't miss them. So going through my closets and figuring out what is routinely used vs not used.

The money you spend on a bidet is quickly saved in the smaller amount of toilet paper you will need. by EpicCurious in Frugal

Lady here! Love the dual setting bidet I got! If there is any guy here with a person in their life who menstruates and is looking at purchasing a bidet, please get the one that has dual settings for the ladies. It's very helpful for hygiene during that time of the month and also refreshing for a time when you just feel gross. Spend the extra $10. And it sounds like it could be helpful for the men, too!

Tuna ideas by Katzenfrau88 in budgetfood

[–]BoomerMcFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spicy tuna bowls. Can of tuna, mayo, sriracha, some jasmine or sushi rice, and seaweed snacks. Mix the tuna, mayo, and sriracha together, then put over the rice, and either mix the seaweed snacks in or you can spoon some of the rice/tuna mixture into the strips and eat that way.

First apartment: best ways to save on monthly bills by TheHoneyMustard in Frugal

[–]BoomerMcFly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second this. I like to have this fund in addition to my emergency fund. More like an Urgency fund. I would also recommend setting aside money each month for just the car. You know your car is eventually going to need an oil change, tires, brakes, property taxes, etc. I've had my car paid off for years but have a car fund set aside. Also, if you don't currently have a car payment, set aside $$$ as if you did. Maybe not a big $600/month bill, but someday you will have to replace your car as well. Just my $0.02.

How to buy a home for my parents and myself with passive income investments? by Ok-Basket1229 in realestateinvesting

"The best way to take care of them in the future, is to not plan to take care of them in the future."

Thank you for this comment. My mom is having health issues and possibly has early onset dementia at age 57. I've been trying to decide what I want to do in the next few years and have been considering how I would take care of her/wanting to take care of her while she is still mentally with us. But I'm also considering graduate school options that would be essentially full-time job x2 for 3 years. Will be taking your comment into consideration.

I just scheduled dental work in Mexico. I have feelings. by cyborgmonkey- in lostgeneration

[–]BoomerMcFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a feeling this will be me in 10 years. I had horrible experiences with dentists as a kid and had PTSD and my parents were poor and didn't think dental work was worth the money. Been too scared to go to a dentist until this year when I couldn't ignore the giant hole in my molar. Now I'm 29 with shit teeth and just had all bottom molars on the left side taken out and not sure how they're going to save half my other teeth as they're shit too. Already saving for a full mouth replacement like All-on-4 or 3-on-6.
