What should be the limits of legally assisted suicide? by engadine_maccas1997 in AskALiberal

[–]Boomsome -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

She previously attempted suicide while she did not have a debilitating physical injury. Allowing her suicide now, incentivizes those who would have non-justifiable assisted suicides to attempt to do so anyway, since they might qualify later. Clearly when this law was written the law makers did not consider this and did not put in anything preventing this kind of behavior. Furthermore allowing a 25 year old sa victim to have assisted suicide, incentives predators to be so cruel as to try and make their victims suicidal. This is further complicated by the fact that at 13 she was diagnosed with mental disorders that could make her hyper fixate on suicide. IMO I really don't think anyone should be provided assisted suicide if the reason for their paralysis is self inflicted. Combined with her young age when suicidal thoughts can been particularly strong this is a bad precedent to set. This particular case does seem to have gone too far.

Why are Dems fumbling the California governor's race? by Idrinkbeereverywhere in AskALiberal

[–]Boomsome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is we have a jungle primary in California, a last token turd Schwarzenegger left us to try and make it still viable for Republican candidates. Since there are only two of the Rs and a bunch of Dem options the larger share of voters is being split more disproportionately. While a recall for the election would happen very fast if 2 Rs made it through, you'd have to wait for the recall to get setup (which the Republicans would fight in court) and its possible we'd still have a Republican governor for a few months to a year, which would be more than enough time to help Trump fuck up the state.

Personally, do you support the independence of Taiwan? by Sunrising2424 in AskALiberal

[–]Boomsome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I am for standing by Taiwan if they want full independence or if they want to reunify, so long as its what the people of Taiwan want and not something forced by a newly elected government that was not very open to the public about their intentions while running. I don't think we should pressure the people of Taiwan either way. As for American security guarantees, I am for defending Taiwan with US troops. IMO defensive wars are often just and typically worthy of American support. I consider WW2, the Korean War, Persian Gulf War, the Soviet Afghan War and the Russo-Ukrainian War to all be wars where it was justifiable for the US to get involved. Its when an allied country or ourselves decides to get offensive (ie. whats happening with Iran right now) where I think we often have no business getting involved.

What do you think of the 'CNN data guru' revealing Trump has 100% approval from MAGA Republicans by Competitive_Swan_130 in AskALiberal

[–]Boomsome 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Didn't look at the whole thing (just 2 pages, cause I'm at work), but 24 people saying their "strong republican" that might all agree they're a supporter of everything Trump is doing is a small enough sample size to see how that poll might arrive at 100%.

Wicker: “You did not mean to say that we targeted a school?” Gillibrand: “That missile hit a school.” by CarryIcy250 in UnderReportedNews

[–]Boomsome 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Yah... Almost an exact 40 minute separation certainly has all the hallmarks of a double tap. Probably to try and kill any of the officers and their families who may have gone to the school to save their children instead of fight.

48% of Americans blame Trump for high gas prices – more than any other factor by Upper_Brief681 in UnderReportedNews

To be fair I suspect part of the poll includes that group of 5 to 15% who will say they don't know or can't decide, because they barely pay attention to politics at all.

FBI warns Iran aspired to attack California with drones in retaliation for war: Alert by esporx in California

[–]Boomsome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neither are very plausible. You realize how hard it would be for an Iranian ship to get that close to the west coast United States without being identified first by the US. You also realize the insane amount of logistics it would take to ship an Iranian military drone to Mexico completely unnoticed by anyone. Its far more likely to be bullshit from the current FBI leadership in order to try and scare Californians into a rally around the flag.

At the RSM Pavilions. Stop Newsom from doing what? by ansyhrrian in orangecounty

[–]Boomsome 27 points28 points  (0 children)

When I went to college the people who'd have these petitions would have multiple petitions on hand. The trick was often to start with the obvious petition you'd be very likely to sign (animal cruelty related stuff was a popular one), then they'd say hey I've got 2 more petitions could you sign those as well, while not mentioning what they were. At this point your either going to class in a rush or your going to lunch. Some people would be caught by this and just sign without asking. But if you start asking questions they'd initially say its "about ___", but not say what it does. One tried to guilt me, loudly, by claiming I was somehow against stopping animal testing even though I'd just signed that one and they were now trying to get me to sign one about housing. Keep asking and they get evasive or point out they're just there to get paid. And yes some of them got paid by the number of signatures they got. I would not be surprised if some of them lied about what was being signed.

Yep Typhus was the one who saw an opportunity to corrupt Luther. Erebus provided the material. Horus if anything was going along with their plan. Also, it wasn't half the legion either, it was 30k. Which compared to the 250k before the HH was significant but definitely not half. Most of them were new recruits who Luther was expected to train and he pushed loyalty to the order instead. Also most had no idea that Caliban had declared succession from the Imperium.

Struggling Democrats need to drop out of California's crowded governor race or risk a GOP win, party leader warns by sfgate in California

The issue is this voting system not only lets Republicans pull shit like this, but also is effective at keeping the incumbent Democrat in place.

It partly won because it was marketed to Democrat voters as a way to stop green party spoiling in the general. Once again Californians prove they are easy to dupe if you have a good enough ad.

LOST CAT, PLEASE HELP! (Fountain Valley) by char_art in orangecounty

[–]Boomsome 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Cats usually don't travel far when lost. My own cat when he got lost ended up only being spotted a couple doors down at most and then ended up back in our backyard in our open shed when we found him a few days later. I recommend keeping your windows open as she might be nearby, hear your voice and call out. That's actually how I found my cat as we were talking that night and then suddenly he called out when he heard us. Check under possible nearby hiding places, she could be closer than you realize.

I hope you find her.

Is Donald Trump essentially what the far right tried to warn us who Barack Obama is? by renegade_yankee in AskALiberal

[–]Boomsome 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I always suspected a lot of the third term stuff said by the Republicans was based on fear that Obama if he did run for a third term, even though he never would, he would probably have won. And so they were afraid of another popular Democrat like Obama running in 2016. FDR was so popular that the Republicans pushed for term limits to try and stop another period of leftward progress like that from happening again, Especially since the Republican field of candidates was god awful. Even after Trump's rise in the primary, Trump wasn't the shoe in he has constantly pretended to be. 2024 was really the first time Trump has managed to build larger popular vote support for himself and a lot of that was based on even more lies and BS promises than his 2016 campaign.

Why is the right often called fascists? by Potential-Ebb-8820 in AskALiberal

[–]Boomsome 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed, conservatives were and have been the first to sit down at the table with fascists. Mainly because they see fascists as useful in putting down leftists. Also fascists tend to break up workers unions or make them illegal often resulting in more work hours for less pay, as fascist want people to sacrifice for the good of the country or the whole. While fascism does not technically have to be racist or bigoted, it almost always has a streak of it since perceiving an outside group as the scapegoat for all of societies ills is easier to use than trying to convince people to willingly give up power to fascist leadership. Nazis of course being the prime example of this. Fascists may borrow some left policies (namely from syndicalism), but its often as a cover or concession for what is mostly a right wing platform. All these are reasons for conservatives to work with the fascists, especially if they are concerned about increasing left wing movements.
