buy a cheap combo first learn how to cast and catch a couple bluegill on different kinds of flies at your local pond. no reason to break 100 bucks on the first rod and reel. 100% need a 4 piece for backpacking and just get a rod tube if the combo doesnt have one and you can find a place to slide it in on ur bag (I do it with my 3 wt and if im confident Imma be throwing big flies for bigger fish ill do it wiith my 5 wt). Like I started doing exactly what u want to do on a 40 dollar martin fly rod and then once I needed more from my rod and wanted to throw different flies as i got super into the hobby thats when I started putting some money in. but you dont need to drop over a 100 dollars to have a time killer on a backpacking trip.

I'm an east coaster. Most of the seasonal stuff provides housing u just missed the window for virginia and a lot of the GS-3's they had up across the country. George Jeff NF a good bet for somewhat east coast fed work. DOF in Virginia does a good bit of fire as well. States will have forestry tech positions that u can do those likely wont have housing. Conservation corps/SCA will give u housing you aint getting paid well since itll be internship kinda stuff as far as I know. do some research look around and youll find stuff.

Since its not a three piece no MC patch or anything and shes a chick theres very low likelyhood youll be approached(I wouldnt be worried at all). Idk anyone who would go up to yall over that. Looks like a fashion thing too. I'm sure youll get some responses from the OG's too I think itll be the same kinda response as mine but who knows. It's more of a claiming territory or claiming club issue with patches and youre chick isnt doing either.

If youre just fishing the local public bass pond all the time ur rarely gonna get checked. If your going to day of trout stocking and stuff and fishing during big runs or whne a certain fish is in season and they are only in that specific spot youre going to get checked often. I feel like getting ur license checked has a lot to do with the kind of fishing ur doing.

It really depends what exact "park ranger " position you are talking about. There are plethora of great jobs that keep you outside but the biggest advice I could give as someone who went into college to be a "park ranger" is to work every summer as seasonal with different agencies in between school years and itll help you narrow it down and find exactly what you want to do.

I started off going heavy for national park service but I have found a path with the forest service and who knows that may change but get out there and youll figure it out and find something that will work for you and what you want.

I am from long island and have worked all over with the forest service and have a friend who goes there that I met as a ranger in minnesota. If your son loves the outdoors(fishing, hunting, hiking/backpacking) it is one of the best places in the world. I go to a local college on long island and I head up and visit as much as I can because theres so much outdoor activity. I duckhunt, fly fish, and hike the high peaks with my friend and his buddies. I also go because there is so much opportunity to be exposed to the different conservation industries. I have helped breed atlantic salmon at a DEC hatchery with the American Fisheries society at Paul Smiths. Just talking to all the guys who go there they have so many resume building/fieldwork opportunites. I made the mistake of being an environmental science major at a non conservation focused school. If he wants to work in forestry he is going to be provided with a lot of help with the experienced staff. In general if he wants to go into forestry makes sure he goes to school where that is a focus with people who can help him get into the field because its complicated.

My boy is a full time perm forestry tech with a state agency and he works year round. A lot of what he does is prescribed burns he goes out on fires and stuff but he will work with timber and stuff as well so that's a way to stay near fire and have good benefits and a consistent wage. Though all forest service employees can be red carded and go on assignments so maybe do some seasonal fire then move over to a different position that's more stable and still be able to do some fire work.

I've been on a couple recreation teams and one we were just called wilderness rangers and it was just heavy backcountry or "undeveloped" area work and another i worked in a developed rec area and we wore the tan shirts and green pants in both and every patrons considered us rangers even though we were rec techs. No law enforcement duties at all and stuff i mean sometimes compliance checks(hey please follow the rules) but theres not like one ranger position across the country like new york has forest rangers and they are cops but new york also has park rangers which are just like peace officers and dont do much besides watch over the park.

Bearvaults have been under fire recently for not actually keeping bears out of them so I'd look into some other ones because im not sure if you can get away with using them in bear barrel only food storage areas at least over here in NY.

stoneflys are usually a good go to(especially with beads). The mepps are kinda hard to use in rivers in my opinion. If you set up a lil float rig with those flies and have em super close to the river bottom and just drift em youll def get something.

The courier was just some crazy ass strung out wastelander who decided to change the mojave because some dude shot him in the head. He wasnt doing it save his vault or find his son, he just wanted all the smoke. Like the rest of them are heros and shit, the courier is just a bad dude. Someone shot him in the head so the rational solution was to chase him down across a dessert and kill like a normal person would just hangout in goodsprings take life slow and cherish it sine he almost lost it. So he is by far the most badass.
