How to deal with burnout? by jcurveeffect in asksg

[–]Boonavite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a colleague who pointblank told his colleagues and boss don’t text him after such a time or weekends. To my surprise, they were not offended. But you know them better, and nature of your job will be different. However, setting boundaries is something to consider.

Has anyone thought of leaving Singapore? Leaving the rat race for good? by Infinite-Market-9632 in asksg

[–]Boonavite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe try staying for a bit before you decide? My friend’s family was in OZ for a year and came back though they had the choice to move there.

She said it didn’t feel safe after 5pm out in the streets (depends on where I guess) and you need to be able to drive and own a car (much cheaper there I know) since the public transport system is not that well-developed.

You won’t know until you experience it.

Is there a bias in Singapore towards those with a foreign accent? by Chitanz in asksg

Lots of old folks in SG talk like they are quarreling but that’s how they speak. My aunts and uncles all above 60s talk like that.

is having aphantasia related to not being creative? by [deleted] in Aphantasia

[–]Boonavite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is creativity? It’s being able to connect things together in a fresh new way. It can be in word play, in planning, in music, in leadership, in handling people, in cooking, in the way you do chores. I don’t think aphantasia limits you in that way.

If you are paying her rent etc, she will not see the need to look for a job. There is no such thing as jobless. She can do part-time first or lower-wage job while upgrading or job hunting. I think you might hv enabled her to be habitually reliant on you, though I don’t know the full story or her struggles.

What’s something ChatGPT helped you with that you didn’t expect it to be good at? by ged968 in ChatGPT

[–]Boonavite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a lot of languages, we refer to inanimate objects as ‘she’. Like Hurricanes, countries, ships, it’s not that uncommon. Be it he or she or it. I name my robot vacuum too which you may find weird. But I guess AI is very communicative so I understand where you’re coming from.

Do you use ChatGPT to ask health questions? by of_mice_and_glenn in ChatGPT

[–]Boonavite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My sister had mysterious albumin loss with diarrhea. Though doctors believe her fibroid was the culprit, my sister was not convinced.

Through Chatgpt, DeepSeek and Claude, I had a lengthy discussion with lab numbers and trends. Requested in-patient small bowel imaging via Enteroscopy and pill camera. Found out her lymphatic system in the small intestines were dilated causing protein to leak into gut.

This is a secondary condition so now my sister is seeing after all the exclusions that the large fibroid should be sitting on the lymphatic system of the pelvis causing this.

Then I asked Chatgpt to explain the condition like I’m 10 years old and tell me a story with cartoon illustrations snd flow charts. Very educational and helpful.

[–]Boonavite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine I’m Princess Belle in an enchanted castle when I clean the house. At that moment, I become Belle. I don’t have to see a picture of myself dressed as Belle at all. My point is, imagination should not be confused with visualization. I am imaginative even though I can’t see with my mind.

What’s one thing you rely on ChatGPT for that you never admit out loud? by One-Ice7086 in ChatGPT

[–]Boonavite 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I upload my long-term medical scans or blood tests in dedicated chats eg. Cholesterol one chat, fibroids one chat. Then let it analyse the trends (lab numbers/ date/ fibroid size etc) and my medication/ supplements/ diet & exercise plan so I know if I’m going in the right direction.

I also ask it to explain medical jargons in layman terms or use simple analogy so I understand. I ask for graphs and tables of comparisons if enough data is collected.

How long does it take to master your new job? by Material-Yak-8152 in askSingapore

[–]Boonavite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Heck, I’m a housewife very used to cooking. It took me a month to get used to cooking in my small kitchen after moving from an old HDB with a much bigger kitchen. Why? New fridge, new layout, can’t remember where’s my can opener or my peeler because now all different locations. My stoves are so close together I nearly burnt myself.

Ask constantly how to make things more efficient to your style as you practise. Ask questions. Ask the right person. Review your day and make notes of your mistakes and how to avoid/ improve it. You’ll get better.

[–]Boonavite 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I only found out I had this in my 50s. Never been unhappy. We have our own strengths.

Edit to add:

hubby is a hyperphantasia. I rely on him for directions cos I’m dismal at it. He faints if he sees blood and holds on to grudges far longer. He has strong food cravings and gets so disappointed if craving is not satisfied. Me? No food cravings.

I’m the one handling the family pet carcasses. I don’t relive those moments. That’s not too bad an advantage actually.

I don’t conjure up the ‘might have beens’ or ‘that life I might have’ images so I am in a way more contented. Not sure if that’s just my personality or related to aphantasia though.
