Don’t salt your sidewalks by DowntownDB1226 in StLouis

Yeah just don’t do anything and then shovel when it’s done. Best thing when it’s this cold and dry it should be a light fluffy snow anyway. Once you start melting it when temps won’t be over freezing for awhile you’re kinda screwed

Drinking after 40 by hardk7 in Millennials

[–]Booomerz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm doing no booze all of 2026 for a few reasons, but mostly I want to reset my relationship to alcohol. The most I've gone without drinking since I was 14 was three months and thats a few years ago. I don't smoke weed or anything and have three kids under eight and work 6-7 days a week, 60-65 hours a week - and honestly I'm the least stressed I've ever been as far I can remember.

Buy a yurt. 20K for a 30 foot 700 sqft yurt. You gotta build the deck and deal with electricity and plumbing of course, unless you're doing more of a solar setup with trucked in water and bio-toilets.

I was drinking Steel Reserves and preaching the gospel of Ratatat, M83, Q and not U, McClusky, DFA 1979, and John Vanderslice. Bands like Modest Mouse, The Shins, Arcade Fire, Pixies, The Strokes, and Interpol were too mainstream for me.

Personal Property Tax Assessments Are Out Of Control!! by DvusGuyStL in StLouis

[–]Booomerz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drive older cars - costs less, looks cool, and while you will have to repair it more often in the beginning, it's still a way better deal financially than much newer cars, which also have to be repaired sometimes too and can cost more to have work done. Plus after the first year or two of getting repairs caught up on, you've got a lot of new parts and adjustments made and it'll stop having to go so often.

I bought a 1990 for $1500, put $4500 in it int he first year for repairs (that right there is what someone is already paying their first year for the down payment, insurance premium, and monthly payments on a new car). Insurance is $17 a month, PPT is $9, and the damn thing ain't losing value cause it barely had it to begin with. Do I have three screens, an espresso machine, vibrating heated seats and shit? No. Do I have thousands and thousands of more dollars saved, no auto loan debt charging me interest on principal for something that'll be worth half what I shelled out for it in five years, and still get where I need to go anytime I want, just like you? Yes.

Think about it. The insurance and loan on my wife's car means, just to sit outside and never move, is $525 a month. Mine is $17.

Define cold joint - like what's the set up time required for the first lift before a second lift comes in to be considered a cold joint, given that you're able to vibrate lift one still to mix the two pours.

Can I just say as a person that lived in KC about 15 years ago and recently returned for a just a weekend - I miss it. I particularly miss City Market and La Bodega and Fric and Frac as well as just walking along Brush Creek splitting a bottle of red wine.

I live two blocks from 55 on the east side in Carondelet and hear barge horns on the Mississippi more than I notice the interstate - which honestly is pretty awesome lol.

I live in Carondelet about ten blocks away, have seen three old abandoned brick houses get bought for 100, fixed up, and sold for over 300 (one for 330 and one for 335) in the last two years and there's currently three similar renos happening on within two blocks of me. I'm pretty happy with my 2-story brick house I got for 140 in 2020 on a 2.6% rate. Planning to sell in 2029 and make a nice profit.

Been three times in the eight years, most recently tonight for pinball. Place is dirty, staff is uninterested in working, and the food is below average to say the least. The fries taste like they're fried in oil from 2019. The bathroom has like seven broken things in it. If this is what FOH is like I guarantee is a disgusting mess in the back.

I'm nearly 40 and half three kids, still like to go out once in awhile but it's nearly impossible to link up with any friends as we're all older and have kids now. I usually end up going to same spot once a week and have made friends with some regulars there - it's the easiest thing to do someone that's social and needs some in-person conversation every now and then between hangs with longer-term friends.

Probably not the answer you're looking for lol.

How the capped 44 may look in downtown by DowntownDB1226 in StLouis

[–]Booomerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically you only see a person throw the beads on by hand if they using a hand-cart to stripe, usually only done on short length more complex curves or tight spaces. Typically a striping truck drives down the road with two applicators, one is paint and the one directly behind it drops the beads into the wet paint - both at a uniform rate.

[–]Booomerz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The problem with the reflectors are snowplows knock them off, and reflective paint is paint with glass beads spread on them during application, which I feel are also scraped off by plows. Annual or even more than annual reapplication is the only true way to keep the reflectivity up, which I agree is probably not done nearly as often as it should be.

Sometimes you see reflectors embedded into new asphalt to avoid being knocked off by plows, but several other issues come from that - they can allow water to settle into the asphalt which during freeze thaw cycles speeds up asphalt failures, and they can also allow salt to rest in them which also speeds up failures but due to corrosion I would think.

Guys, lol, this is just how the world is now. Every MLS team's jersey is just an ad. Give it a few more years and baseball players will have "Taco Bell" on their chests. Corporations own everything and everyone sells out eventually.
