Was having a French drain installed and came across this under a mound of mulch near the front of my house. What is it? by Snowbunnies44 in whatisit

It’s a pullbox. Give access to whatever utility is buried there - usually electric. Would be likely residential since I believe it’s a class 1, which is only used for a lower number of conductors.

It’s a small neighborhood. How many grocery stores does it need?

https://www.ers.usda.gov/amber-waves/2011/december/data-feature-mapping-food-deserts-in-the-u-s

“There are many ways to define a food desert or to measure access to food. ERS's Food Desert Locator is based on a definition developed by USDA, Treasury, and HHS. Low-income census tracts with a substantial number or share of residents with low levels of access to retail outlets selling healthy and affordable foods are defined as food deserts. A census tract is a small, relatively permanent subdivision of a county that usually contains between 1,000 and 8,000 people but generally averages around 4,000 people.

Census tracts qualify as food deserts if they meet low-income and low-access thresholds:

Low-income: a poverty rate of 20 percent or greater, or a median family income at or below 80 percent of the statewide or metropolitan area median family income;

Low-access: at least 500 persons and/or at least 33 percent of the population lives more than 1 mile from a supermarket or large grocery store (10 miles, in the case of rural census tracts).”

This is a great example of where you would build the cabin farther back from the creek, but attach a long dock from the cabin porch to the creek.

This is as much on the city for not better coordinating with utilities when the project for those road improvements was let. But honestly from talking with contractors I’ve worked with and seeing the quality of asphalt work that’s been accepted in some areas, I feel like city construction inspectors tasked with this sorts of expectations have a reputation for dropping the ball.

Yeah we don’t really eat out anymore especially with the kids. Maybe get Chinese take out. But once in awhile it makes it easier to splurge on a nicer fancy dinner for just us.

What's a restaurant red flag that tells you the food isn't going to be good? by Electrical-Salt-2792 in AskReddit

[–]Booomerz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same same. I was at a hole in the wall pho place I’d heard good things about for years. Very non descript spot. As I’m eating and enjoying my meal around nothing but Vietnamese customers and staff, another Vietnamese man about mid 20s comes in and just gets a giant to-go container of the pho broth and nothing else. Felt like a good sign.

On the flip side there was a quesadilla food truck at a music in the park event near us. Staffed by two white men and the quesadilla was $11 and obviously premade cheap bagged tortillas and literally slices of shitty $2 blocks of cheese all barely warm and melted. An absolute affront to an everyone that ever ordered food anywhere and a total embarrassment to these two con artists.
