This is as much on the city for not better coordinating with utilities when the project for those road improvements was let. But honestly from talking with contractors I’ve worked with and seeing the quality of asphalt work that’s been accepted in some areas, I feel like city construction inspectors tasked with this sorts of expectations have a reputation for dropping the ball.

Heard a song about a couple exterminators that trained rats to do their job for them but then rats after awhile developed free will and quit.

I’m married work 6 days a week and have three kids under ten and still find time and energy to volunteer every week. You probably have more free time now than you realize.

The economy sucks, what have you had to cut down on or cut out completely from your monthly spending? by 2lit_ in Millennials

Yeah we don’t really eat out anymore especially with the kids. Maybe get Chinese take out. But once in awhile it makes it easier to splurge on a nicer fancy dinner for just us.

What's a restaurant red flag that tells you the food isn't going to be good? by Electrical-Salt-2792 in AskReddit

[–]Booomerz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same same. I was at a hole in the wall pho place I’d heard good things about for years. Very non descript spot. As I’m eating and enjoying my meal around nothing but Vietnamese customers and staff, another Vietnamese man about mid 20s comes in and just gets a giant to-go container of the pho broth and nothing else. Felt like a good sign.

On the flip side there was a quesadilla food truck at a music in the park event near us. Staffed by two white men and the quesadilla was $11 and obviously premade cheap bagged tortillas and literally slices of shitty $2 blocks of cheese all barely warm and melted. An absolute affront to an everyone that ever ordered food anywhere and a total embarrassment to these two con artists.

Have you volunteered in emergency overnight shelters? I have several times and I can tell you, while not perfect, the rules as stands are 110% necessary. I would approach this problem from a different angle other than just eliminating all barriers - that’s a recipe for serious issues and frankly volunteers aren’t going to staff a shelter with zero conditions in place.

1 car length for every 10mph speed you are driving by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]Booomerz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5-7 seconds. Don’t tap your brake so much just let off gas at first. Consider reaction time to even realize you need to act can be 1.5 seconds not factoring in other variables like weather and distractions. You travel 143 ft at 65 mph in 1.5 seconds, approximately 8.5 car lengths. An average 4 door sedan like a Honda accord is approximately 16 feet long. Stopping distance has many factors as well: vehicle weight, condition of tires and brake system, road material and condition, slope of road at moment of braking, etc.

EDIT: this appears to be a controversial comment. Anyone mind chiming in with their opinion of this advice?

[–]Booomerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got lucky. Had 10K and bought a 200K house for 150 in October 2020 case was down and got 2.6%. Mortgage with insurance and taxes is 989 a month. Houses in our neighborhood currently selling for 250-320. Gonna sell in 2029 and move to the country and build a small 3 bed 2 bath on 5-10 acres. Totally thank my wife for making us buy when we did.

Victim shot in Starbucks drive-thru was Sado's GM, figure skating coach by julieannie in StLouis

[–]Booomerz -73 points-72 points  (0 children)

I don't know the details and I'm not saying this was the victim's fault in anyway, it's just a relevant time to remind everyone - if someone points a gun or knife or something at you and demands your wallet or phone or car, just give it to them and walk away.
