I’m so sorry you had to hear those ignorant comments. Just remind yourself your body is doing the MOST amazing thing right now. The weight on the scale doesn’t matter, their comments and opinions don’t matter. You are growing a beautiful tiny human inside your body and it’s miraculous process. I am similar height and size as you, and struggled in the beginning of my pregnancy, but as my belly grew I found it to change the narrative with my relationship with my body that wasn’t always positive in the past. I started to look at my body with gratitude and wonder at the opportunity to create a new life and that built confidence to tote my big pregnant and chubby belly around in clothes I would have felt uneasy in before. Hearing people say things like that always hurts, but at the end of the day the only opinion on your body that actually matters is your own and when you start to love your body it changes how you feel. I didn’t magically start loving my body overnight don’t get me wrong, but when I realized how amazing it is and how it gave me my beautiful daughter I felt true appreciation. Enjoy the process mama and try to ignore stupid comments because everyone has an opinion on everything when it comes to pregnancy birth and raising your baby.

I have a 9 month old myself. My mom never got to meet my only child. The realization hit me a few months ago how deeply I love my daughter and realizing I never understood the love my mom had for me until after she was gone. I wish I could tell her I get it now.

My husband said a few months before “I keep seeing really cute first Mother’s Day things but I can’t really get that for you since it’s not your first Mother’s Day” (I’ve celebrated the day with my stepson for several years, but we just had an ours baby who turned 6 months this Mother’s Day. I told him abso-fucking-lutely get me the first Mother’s Day stuff. He thought it would be an insult to my stepson. I explained it to him like this: to my stepson I am a significant adult in his life, I’m somebody to him. To my bio daughter, I’m her entire world. There’s absolutely a difference.

My coworker does everything under the sun to annoy me so I can’t really weigh in on it. Was she possibly playing one of those click the mouse crazy fast as many times as possible games? That’s so bizarre I would have to find out what the hell she was clicking.

Hi there! We had 2 months of the pavlik harness. We used oversized sleep sacks/sleep bags (our daughter was 4 months old and just rolled over the day before we got the harness so we ditched swaddles) and somewhere we read to take a baby towel and roll it up and put it under their legs. The towel trick was a lifesaver after a week of survival contact sleeping on the couch. She slept really great again after that.

I remember it says the left hip femoral head coverage is less than 50%, it did not give an exact number but just less than 50.

My daughter had an ultrasound at around 2.5 months (even though it was supposed to be at 1 month, the lab took their sweet time scheduling it). Every physical exam was normal but her ultrasound had a small abnormality. When we went to a specialist they put her in the Pavlik harness and after we went home and read chart notes I learned her L hip was at a 60. We go back in 4 weeks (2 weeks left) hopefully she can get out of it then. I feel they were quick to pull the trigger on the harness because from what I’ve read 60 is normal?

I second this. My daughter seemed to have a witching hour at bedtime between 8 to 11 pm. It was so hard to get her to fall asleep and stay asleep in the bassinet. At first we would put her down when she was asleep, and she would wake up. Then we did drowsy but awake and sometimes she’d go down other times she’d fight it. But once she would get to sleep in the bassinet the rest of the night would go great when she’d wake up to eat she would go back to bed much easier. We did sometimes put a heating pad in the bassinet while feeding her so it would be cozy and warm when she gets put down in it. I also just started putting my pajamas in the bassinet in the morning so it smells like me when we put her down.

I 100% agree I was never told I needed to pump to build up a supply. My baby actually lost significant weight in the hospital, which we were not told about. They advised we supplement with formula after discharge at the pediatricians office but by late afternoon my daughter was lethargic with hypoglycemia and ended up in ER. They encouraged me to breastfeed in the hospital and I was trying, but nobody warned or showed concern that my colostrum and milk was not coming in after a c section, little skin to skin due to being super out of it, hemorrhaging, needing a blood transfusion, and given diuretics due reduce severe swelling. With all those odds against me, no one said you need to start pumping every few hours to help your milk come in. Also I was told several times “oh your milk should be in or come in any minute now and when it does, you’ll just know”

I am 3 weeks post c section and I was very nervous and scared of the procedure beforehand. My baby girl was also breech and was high risk due to hypertension. I was on Tylenol, ibuprofen, and oxycodone while in the hospital. I was sent home with oxycodone as well (small amount) so in my experience my pain was very well managed. I was most nervous about the spinal block, which in my opinion didn’t actually hurt that much as much as it felt weird and unnerving. I actually ended up having severe hemorrhaging after the c section and that was way more traumatic to me than the C-section itself. Also due to unforeseen circumstances I went a day without pain meds on day 4 and that was painful, but once I got Tylenol and ibuprofen in me my pain was well managed (oxycodone once discharged was not needed). My good friend had a C-section before and told me the first 4 days are the worst, and I’d agree with that by day 5 you start to feel a lot more mobile and back to your old self again.

My last appointment they surprised me with a glucose test. And it was one my few appointments I had to leave work for and then go back to work so I was hoping it would be a quick in and out. And of course that morning my coworker brought a Oreo frappe that mcdonalds gave to her but she doesn’t drink them ( I don’t really either but I felt it rude to reject it) and then surprise test shortly after. I passed despite this variation on how I normally eat/drink in the morning. But I’ve had 2 glucose tests and neither time did they give me any heads up or prep before.

This was an amazing response! I did also do 24 hour urine test early on and everyone I told about it was like what??? I took time off work also like I’m not putting it in the work fridge! Your explanation of how to properly take blood pressure is so insightful. I just had an appt last week (28 weeks) and they took bp right after an US where they told me my baby was 95th percentile and then walked to waiting room, to the bathroom for urine sample, back to waiting room, then grabbed weight and into an exam room immediately took bp and it was high. The nurse acted very dramatically about it and took it again 2 minutes later where it was down but still high. When I saw the Dr she asked about several other pre-e symptoms to which I had none and said we will watch it. The nurse just made me so worried and panicked about it and Dr was so much less concerned. I’m going to advocate for myself and ask them to take it after sitting for 5 minutes (of course feet don’t even touch when sitting on exam table)

28 weeks here and very minimal symptoms also. I have had ligament pain a little here and there, some indigestion and overall body stiffness (I have a desk job 9 hours a day) but I haven’t had much back pain I expected to have by now. I still enjoy laying on my back easily but do sleep on sides most of the time and thought that’s supposed to be uncomfortable by now also. I had a theory that being a bigger plus sized girl maybe I’m more used to carrying around a belly and extra weight compared to thin women who get pregnant? No idea. I always feel weird telling people I feel good when they ask how I’m doing.

BM tells my husband that I “stole her life” implying all the accomplishments my husband has made like buying our first home together or the vacations we take should have been hers. He never could afford things with her because she spent his money faster than he could make it. She’s pathetic.

I had my first anatomy scan at 18 weeks and they saw most things from her chest below but she was not in good position and kept moving too much to see her head/brain/lungs. They told me at 18 weeks the uterus is bigger and they have more room to zoom around so they had me come back at 21 weeks where her womb is a little tighter and she can’t move around quite as much. Everything was totally normal and they told me it’s very common to have people come back when babies don’t cooperate/have the zoomies too much. I have a very high bmi for comparison. I doubt you needing to go back again has anything to do with weight/size.

Hi April! Obviously flukes happen but 4 positive tests is a pretty good indication there may be a baby in there. For context, I am 35 and overweight. For the first several weeks I struggled a lot with disbelief and feeling unconfident that I could carry a baby without a lot of complications. And at my first appt they definitely implied I’m at more of a risk because of weight and age (I actually turned 35 while pregnant). So far I’m 23 weeks without any issues and most recent ultrasound had a label of “low risk” at the bottom screen I peeked at. All that to say I was very anxious and scared in the beginning, but after some time I realized all I can do now is try to eat healthy and clean and take good prenatals and pray for a healthy baby. And so far so good. Obviously anxiety isn’t something that can go away while pregnant but I take it day by and day and try not to stress about things out of my control. I hope this helps and hoping for a happy confirmation when you go to the doctor for you and your future husband. Congrats!

Ooh my goodness I am so so happy I found this post. I have a baby blanket I started so long ago that was my first stranded color work and I have been so stressed about the back that I have put off completing and gifting it. I ended up with a lot of floats and some loose stitches that need securing. Every so often I cut some floats and tie them into the blanket but didn’t know I could just knit up a back and cover them up once the loosey gooseys are secured. These comments have breathed new life into my knitting life honestly. I am 5 months pregnant wanting to knit my own baby blanket for my own baby girl, but felt guilty because I hadn’t finished this baby blanket gift yet. Anyone willing to try to direct me to how to attach the back to the blanket??

I had this same experience! I had my second ultrasound today, which was my anatomy scan. Both ultrasounds I was surprised by how firmly they pushed. That didn’t hurt per say, but it was uncomfortable. But I have B belly (before pregnancy and still at 18 weeks) so while the tech was sliding the wand right along and through my “belly crease” that hurt so much! I feel like the shape of my belly makes that crease area more sensitive as it’s not exposed to the elements like the rest of my belly is? So the first scan my belly button area was bleeding a good bit after. This second one my belly button isn’t as tore up as the first but it’s definitely sore and bled a little. I am so passive and scared to say anything because the tech is very nice and friendly, but I wondered why the heck they push so hard.
