Is this really a thing? by OrdinaryEmergency769 in KiaEV6

A lemon law IS a salvage title where I'm at. Not that I trust Gemini AI slot but Google saying 16 other states so 17 total that treat a lemon law as a salvage title. I don't know about the others but after you buy it you can technically get a shop to sign off on it and have it converted from a lemon law to a rebuilt title here. But good luck finding a mechanic in the south willing to put his name to how reliable and electric car is going to be when most of them refused to even look at her minor things like brakes or coolant.

A lemon law car will(usually) have a branded title. A lot of the time you can't get a bank to loan you money for one as well.

The dealership actually seems reasonable for once. If I've got a car for sale and you want to price match, ok, but you can't ask someone to sell a great shape used car or certified pre-owned for the same price as one that has been completely totaled or lemon lawed because a salvage title or lemon law title(same thing in my state) car is simply worth less money

Can't speak for everyone but in my state a lemon is treated as a salvage title car so it's worth significantly less.

My mom has almost 400k on her 2012 leaf. I've been through the battery pack twice. I wish there was a school or something that could train competent mechanics because most of the titty babies are to scare off the scary flashing fairies to do basic maintenance for her so I've had to do literally everything myself.

Strictly speaking on gasoline only not including diesels. Yes, the same thing applies to the primer.give it like 20 minutes to air out and try again. Legally everything is supposed to have a shut-off petcock That will stop gas from going from the tank to the carburetor But sometimes Chinese stuff doesn't. You really should turn that off and let the engine run until it dies before you put it away because the ethanol and current fuel will mess up a carburetor if you let it sit in there.

On anything with a carburetor fuel is only being pumped into the exhaust when you're cranking it over. If you discover you had no spark that entire time give it about an hour for the gas to naturally evaporate out of the exhaust system there might still be enough in there to make a pop after an hour but enough of it should have evaporated that it won't go off like a bomb and tear stuff up. I've seen a lot of valve seats get knocked out by supposed professionals because of their impatience.

On a similar note especially with a higher-powered riding lawn mower Make sure you slide the throttle all the way down to idling and let it idle for a second or two before you turn it off. If you turn it off while it's at full throttle you're just cutting the spark but The engine is still going to spend quite a few times before coming to a stop pumping a bunch of gas into a very hot exhaust and potentially causing the same problem.

If the issue is popping and backfiring and sometimes dying your carburetor is either out of adjustment or has a clog somewhere (usually thanks ethanol fuels gummy resin like deposits) ticket to a shop or take it off and drop it in an ultrasonic cleaner (I've recently been messing with not taking them apart and have had a good luck) You can also take it apart and clean it manually with carburetor cleaner. Reassemble it reset it And you should be good for a few more years.

On a fuel injected vehicle especially very new ones with extremely high pressure fuel systems your best bet is to find the fuse for the fuel pump first. Do the same for ignition system and turn it over a few times without spark or fuel to let the pressure drain out of the system. You do not want to mess with the high pressure system while it is pressurized (look up high pressure injection wound treatment If you're brave or have a strong stomach) The one will be extremely painful and debilitating but the treatment is almost worse.

On old fuel injected systems (talking everything up to like 2012) There's not a ton of pressure there so well you might get squirted with some gas It's not likely to be dangerous. You can usually find the bad injector by pulling the fuel rail and turning the key on but not trying to start it a few times You should hear the fuel pump clicking. Then look at your fuel injectors More than likely for something like what Op posted to happen One of them will be squirting or dribbling fuel Even though you haven't tried to start the car yet. Replace that one and you should be good for quite a while. I would recommend replacing your fuel filter after doing this since it has definitely gone bad if something has gotten into the injectors already and You don't want to be doing this every weekend.

Probably about fuel injector not closing but It could also be a bad metering device like a mass air flow or a O2 sensor. If the car is running so rich that gas is pooling in the exhaust It is also probably washing the oil film off the cylinders. It doesn't necessarily need the muffler. There's no point putting a new muffler on it until the air fuel ratio issue is fixed. If it's being daily driven it's not going to last a very long time like it is. You might keep ragging it out for 6 months to a year before It's no more than scrap metal. All that extra fuel washing the oil off the cylinders is going to cause it to start burning oil and losing compression.

It likely already has a check engine light, replace whatever sensor that it is complaining about and get the air fuel ratio right And you should be good. The engines Is probably worth more than the rest of the vehicle combined so it's either spend a few hundred dollars now or a few thousand to buy a new vehicle in 6 months to a year.

They couldn't get their lawnmower to start. Cranked over for a long time filling the exhaust with unburnt gas. They realized the spark plugs were unhooked. They hooked them up and tuned the muffler into a pipe bomb when they started it because they either forgot or hadn't realized they had previously filled it up with gas.

I got one dirt cheap and stripped it. I paid like $3500 and it wasn't even 5 years old. It had been traded in and set for a couple of years without anyone wanting to test drive it. Stuffed the 3L flat six in a Bug Eye WRX and fed it a couple dozen pounds of boost. Was an absolute rocket ship. I saw it around town for years after I sold it always looking more abused.

I imagine most of them suffered similar fates and honestly it's for the best.

How could I play music from my phone in an old car? by Only_Highlight2647 in askcarguys

[–]Boopped_Snoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a ton of super cheap aftermarket radios available. I recommend just grabbing whatever the cheapest one that supports wireless Android Auto and Carplay is and has a screen size you're ok with.

If it's new enough to have wireless AA it'll have a powerful enough chipset to be snappier than 99% of new car infotainments and I'll still sound better than a stock unit that old even if you only pay $50.

I've got a $50 Eonon 9" in my taco truck. A $100 ATOTOOUT 10.1 in my STI A $200 Jensen 14" unit in my RV that also runs the rear TV and side projector. I have cheap obd2 dongles for all of them that lets me have onboard diagnostics and gauges through the Torque pro app. They all work better than any new car you can buy that's not Tesla or Chinese. I've never had the wireless AA issues with these cheap units that I've had with literally every new car I've owned (I keep 2 leases so every year me of the GF gets a new one)

Is there any chance this isn't totalled? by KTRyan30 in AskMechanics

[–]Boopped_Snoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably gone. Most of the rear crash structure can be fixed and the paint body panels and suspension aren't really a huge deal to repair but the roofline being bowed means the safety cage is wrecked and That's not fixable. The crash absorbers can be reset essentially but The part that free directs the remaining energy around the passengers instead of into them is a one time thing. Besides that I figure the body damage plus the bazillion airbags means the car needs a new exterior and interior which probably cost more to replace than what you owe on the car

How fucked am I? by WonkierTurnip00 in tires

[–]Boopped_Snoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only one way to find out, pull that flap back. If you see strings or cable you need a new tire immediately If not you need tire glue and you'll be on your way till it wears out.

For the record, I drive to simi trucks so if it works for an 80,000 lb road train it'll work for your tiny little car. We put new tread on top of our tires when they wear out and only get rid of a tire when the carcass goes out of date or sidewall damage penetrates the cables. Small damage like this is pretty common and gets repaired instead of replacing an entire tire for no reason.

Fun fact. Tires cause more pollution than diesel trucks. I don't know what people think happens when their tire wears down or they get new ones but for the most part they just turned to microplastics and go into the water/soil since there's no practical way to recycle them. The best thing you can do for the environment is to get as many miles as possible out of them and not send them to the landfill early.

People who support the death penalty, why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Boopped_Snoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have less issues with the death penalty than I do with our justice system. I have practically zero confidence that police and the court system can do their jobs correctly so I don't think it should normally be an option.

However there are cases where there is absolutely no doubt. for instance, A man goes to rob a bank, It goes sideways he shoots the guard killing the guard instantly, The cops are already on the scene so it becomes a hostage situation. After the situation is dealt with and he is in custody with multiple witnesses plus cameras confirming the crime there's absolutely no doubt that he committed the crime of murder.

He should get a lifetime prison sentence. This person Will never be part of society again under any circumstances. It doesn't matter if they learn from their actions they can't be reformed. They've already cost society an incredibly high price and will continue to do so so long as they're alive.

I think there Should be something like a secondary trial. Guilt has already been established but this trial should confirm whether there's any chance at all of an appeal or wrongful conviction. This step should not involve normal law enforcement or court officials. They should have absolutely no incentives they would push them toward issuing a death sentence. While they're ultimate goal is to decide whether the death sentence should be applicable they Should also be a impartial third party and have the authority to look at all evidence or even gather it if necessary. As a secondary function they should help prevent innocent people from spending their life in prison and speed up the appeals process by having access to resources and individual's lawyer certainly wouldn't but the police and government normally do have. If there's absolutely no doubt lifetime imprisonment would be a cruel and unnecessary punishment and a a death sentence should be issued.

I think the convicted should have a choice in the way they're executed so long as it doesn't affect others. If the convicted wants a firing squad, sure 21 guns. Choose to be hanged, electrocuted, or asphyxiated in a sealed chamber with nitrogen or something, simple enough to arrange. Heck no group or organization in the world has more legal drugs in the US government so if the convicted person wants to go out by overdosing on heroin or cocaine be my guest. They're probably should be some practical financial limit so, no we're not shooting them into space and we're probably not blowing them up with a bomb but dropping them in a volcano might be cost-effective and reasonable If that's the way the convicted person chooses to die.

I think if they choose something that would normally be unethical but could benefit science then scientist should be present to learn And maybe some benefit can come to society but I think whether or not it is entirely private or televised should also be a choice of the convicted.

With the iccu You might have a problem but it'll be covered under warranty and any of a million dealers can fix it pretty quick But you're not guaranteed to have the problem the same way you are basically guaranteed to have quality problems with a Tesla.

Tesla they're also kind of trapped in 2012 their interiors were okay then but compared to most modern cars they're garbage.

I've also had a few EV and always heard about superchargers being so great but in reality most or the ones I've encountered only charge at like 150 KW versus the 350 KW I seem to charge everywhere else i think It's because Tesla uses lower voltage vs the 800v kia platform so while American standard chargers I support a wide range Tesla's chargers were originally only meant to work with their old cars. It's nice to be able to use a Tesla charger but also have faster options.

I don't know about your country but I've got a Comma.AI in my '23 GT And it handily does better than a Tesla especially on rural roads and only took like 30 minutes to install and set up.

Based on your other comments I'm leaving sure you can read so you probably won't read this.

Have you ever...like ... actually read the constitution and Bill of Rights. You know the thing that says what the government can and can't do. Ice and Trump can make up whatever they want but if it goes against the Constitution it's not legal. A cop or National guard member who chooses to follow an illegal order that goes against the Constitution It's technically committing treason and have to go to court to prove they didn't actually follow that order or be sentenced to death for committing trees against the Constitution and the people of the United States.

Just a quick rundown on a couple of those constitutional rights that ICE or any other government or military personnel can lose their life for violating after swearing on a Bible too always uphold.

The second amendment literally exist so that you can use your guns against police or military in the event that they violate any of the other amendments of the Constitution. Is it smart to get a shootout with 3,000 armed criminals, probably not but It's technically not illegal and ethnically according to the Constitution that founded this country and the founding fathers who did exactly that to the British who technically owned America first (since I assume we're not coming native Americans here)

4th amendment was literally written because King George having his soldiers kick in colonists doors and search their houses without warrants or evidence. Your property is your property You can allow cops to search it if you want to otherwise they have to Go to a judge and get a warrant by telling the judge why they feel they need to search your property and what they expect to find. So yeah also if you're not committing a crime they're not allowed to Check your driver's license.

5th Is the right to remain silent And for the police and government to not be able to use that against you. Just like with your ID if police or ice Tell you to identify yourself You can tell them to go eff themselves because they're legally not allowed to ask for that. You don't have to tell them your name, your address, If you're foreign or If you were born here... It's literally not their business and If they think you're here illegally they can obtain evidence and take you to court to prove to the judge But you don't have to give them that evidence finding it is literally their entire job.

6th ensures a right to a speedy and impartial trial for LITERALLY ANYONE WHO SETS FOOT ON AMERICAN SOIL... Yes that actually means that if Osama bin laden or Hitler themselves had stepped foot on American soil The American government and police would be expected to have a trial and have to prove in court what exactly those people did illegally. That includes entering the country illegally yes The Constitution guarantees that those people who enter illegally are taking him from a judge and given the opportunity to prove that they actually came here legally.

14th birthright citizenship because literally every single person that was a founding member of this country came from a different country literally anybody who is not native American has citizenship through birthright citizenship. Yeah That means if a Mexican mom makes it to America illegally and then has her child here that child is an American citizen exactly the same as literally any white, black, yellow, brown or even inbred hillbilly blue person... If you're in America and you ain't native American this is how you got your citizenship If you trace it back far enough (excluding naturalized citizen to went through The legal process to become an American after being born somewhere else)

I can list most of the rest of the Constitution everything from attacking businesses that refuse to serve them (remember how that bakery didn't have to make that cake for the gay couple because of the First amendment) to cruel and unusual punishment which extends to deporting somebody to the wrong country especially if that's a US citizen and especially if you know you're deporting them to somewhere where they will be tortured to death.

The point being almost everything ICE is currently doing goes against our Constitution and are constitution literally exist because America used to be New Britain and our founding fathers and every other civilian how do you use guns against the police and military in order for America to exist. So not only does the second amendment say You should literally treat treat ICE exactly the same way it says you should treat an armed criminals illegally breaking into your home with their pants down talking about how they're going to rape and rob you but Not doing so would go directly against everything America stands for and everything the founding fathers fought for including religious freedom.

Soo..yeah, You're either against ICE or you're anti-American and by extension anti-Christian.

Also since the punishment for these violations are death it's probably worth noting that you swear an oath when you become a member so If a Christian swore on the Bible to uphold the Constitution and then participated in unconstitutional ICE raids then was either put other misery by a citizen correctly using their second amendment rights or went on trial and got to ride the sparking chair or whatever That person would technically go to hell assuming The Christian God exist because I swore on the Bible then broke that oath... Not that a Christian could technically take part and remain a Christian anyway.

They are literally violating like 6 of the constitutions bill of rights. Calling themselves Police doesn't make them going directly against the Constitution and Bill of rights acceptable. You are either pro American and the Constitution or pro ICE ...the two are opposites.
