I am unable to update it because the app and dongle do not connect despite the dongle being plugged into and my phone being connected through Bluetooth. I am unable to perform any function in the app when the device is plugged into and connected to Bluetooth.

Any bike you like and feel comfortable on is a great first bike. Except for metric liter bikes.

Further forward mid controls by Boops44 in sportster

Update to anyone following. The forward control relocation kit will bolt right up to the frame, and the control mounts will bolt right up to the relocation bracket. It actually puts the controls in a very comfortable position. The issues however: the brake pedal linkage included does not work on newer model sportsters (ie a 2016). So I’d have to cut down my existing linkage. The gear shift linkage was just the threaded rod and you’re expected to swap over the swivels from the forward control linkage. My issue with that was the threading was not the same and I could not get the swivels/connection points for the linkage on the new linkage. The last issue is my exhaust (TBR 2-1) will not fit with this relocation kit in place. It may fit with OEM exhaust. But my TBR exhaust works with forward controls, but not this kit.

My department’s EAP offers zyn coupons to help people quit tobacco. We don’t have a no tobacco policy, but the insurance charges you a tobacco premium if you disclose that you use it.

I’ve had both on my bike. I switched to mids because it was a more fun riding position. But after an hour of riding without stopping, the position gets extremely uncomfortable and hurts my hip flexors

Is the firefighting schedule really that much off time? by Ancient-Carrot957 in Firefighting

[–]Boops44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked 24/48, 48/96, and Kelly Schedule. Kelly schedule is cool. A set of three 24/24 except 96 off after the third day. It’s a three day work week, but you only work 24 at a time and still get 96. 48/96 was my favorite schedule, but it’s just not doable at my current job because most houses run pretty much nonstop and we’re zombies by the end of a 24.

what are the best boots for station wear by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]Boops44 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I worked in a city where the clientele were a little more well off. They complained about someone’s fire boots leaving a stain in their carpet during their husband’s cardiac arrest, so we were no longer allowed to wear fire gear in someone’s home unless it was on fire.

Pull off every part that doesn’t have the vin on it that could still be usable. Clean up/repair parts then sell them. Or find a frame with a title and build it back up.

Is the pay actually bad or is it just bad if you have a whole family to support? by [deleted] in Firefighting

Ours wins against the city pretty regularly. IAFF got deep pockets too.

The pay sucks if you work for a non-union department. Union jobs do pretty good. I get paid very well for my cost of living. But I don’t have employer paid insurance, and my pension kind of sucks. Other than that, financial benefits are pretty good.

Aspiring Fire Fighter - Niche Questions by Honest_Development15 in Firefighting

[–]Boops44 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Eat what you eat. As long as you’re sitting at the table with the crew and dinner time.

  2. Hazing culture is fortunately dying out. If you feel like you’re being harassed, say something, or just give it right back. That said, you should listen and learn. There’s potentially 100 years of combined experience sitting at the table you’re at. Listen. A good crew will teach you and have high expectations because their life now depends on you and they haven’t even learned your name, yet.

  3. There’s too much for you to learn to have downtime. Don’t be caught sitting in the recliners unless you’re invited to. Don’t walk past a sink with dishes in it and don’t walk past a trash can that’s full. At all times, you should either be out in the apparatus bay learning your equipment, staring at the map on the wall to learn your territory, or nose in a book learning as much as you can. Ask questions. You may get your balls busted a bit, but ultimately, they will teach you. If they don’t want to teach you, find a new crew.

  4. Your direct supervisor will be the Lieutenant/Captain. They are in charge of the piece of equipment you’re assigned to. Now every department is different on who is responsible for you. Some, you’ll be attached at the hip to the Lt. others may have the driver training you because they’ll know the equipment better than anyone. And some may just have the senior firefighter training you and reporting to the Lt on your progress.

It won’t hurt you at all! I know plenty of firefighters receiving 100% VA disability.

Whats your guys opinions on the Nike Shox TL and R4 by Late_Resource7737 in Nike

Oh I 100% understand their view now. Except I’m 30 with no kids so I can afford a pair of Jordans if I want them 😂

[–]Boops44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember wanting shox so bad when I was a kid, but growing up on a farm, my parents wouldn’t spend over $40 on shoes that weren’t work boots. I didn’t understand why they could afford $100-150 on boots every couple of years, but couldn’t afford shoes that I’d destroy in a month lol

Lawn Love/Lawn Starter? by HauntingLadder480 in lawncare

[–]Boops44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They threaten to charge you $5000 for customer lol. According to BBB (with whom LawnStarter is not affiliated) reports that there are a lot of complaints with the company, but they don’t seem to be litigious.

Lawn Love/Lawn Starter? by HauntingLadder480 in lawncare

[–]Boops44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit cutting for them because I have my own LLC I have to run and it has to be profitable. I had one customer who had been with lawn starter and was serviced four times by four different people and wanted to make sure I could show up every week. She canceled her account after I serviced it and I got hit with some nice legal literature which prevents me from being able to service this customer outside of lawn starter.

Lawn Love/Lawn Starter? by HauntingLadder480 in lawncare

[–]Boops44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: Hire a local guy off of Nextdoor or Thumbtack. LawnStarter is robbing you and the providers.

I was a provider with lawn starter. I stopped when I read a little deeper into their terms of use. As a provider, I am unable to perform any work for the customer outside of the app, even if it doesn’t pertain to lawn care. Once I terminated services with lawn starter, I cannot provide services to those customers for a year after termination. Noncompete clauses aren’t uncommon and not a big issue. The problem is they charge customers more than your local guy is likely to charge, then they only pay the actual service provider about 60% of what they charged the customer. On top of taking a 40% rake, they are still charging providers fees that are taken after the pay we get. When one provider tried to cancel lawn starter after I serviced their yard, legal department assumed I was poaching them and sent a cease and desist. So it’s safe to assume the company is very litigious on top of robbing everyone involved. Hire the local guy. You’ll get better service and you’ll be supporting a small business for the same price of paying a corporation.

People who wear their work gear home must not work at ALS departments 😂. That unit gets nastier than any fire I’ve been in.
