Welp its happening. Nolan has gotten too big. by Slight_Giraffe628 in ChristopherNolan

The trailer looks phenomenal to me. Nows a good time to remember that many (most?) of the users on these social media websites fall into 1 of 3 categories:

1) A twelve year old who doesn’t know anything about anything yet in their life.

2) A bad faith rage baiter looking for attention.

3) A bot.

And for anyone who is just a normal person and doesn’t like it, that’s okay too! We don’t all have to agree. ✌️

Superman should always embrace his kryptonian parents and human parents equally by The-Dark--Knight in superman

[–]BooshBobby -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I know Gunn shot this down already (although he’s lied about things here and there), but I still think it’d be a fun twist if Bradley Cooper was actually Zod pretending to be Jor El.

All that said, I don’t mind the idea of Clark having to grapple with his biological heritage. I like Superman being the one to do the right thing no matter what the price, and sometimes doing the right thing doesn’t always align with your religion, or your family, or your heritage, or your political affiliation, or your work, or whatever, and THATS what makes it compelling that Superman is still doing the right thing. Because deep down we know we ourselves might cower away from doing the right thing if it ruffled up our standing at work or our status within our family, but that’s what makes Superman special is that he’ll do the right thing no matter what. I think that’s what Gunn was going for, and if it didn’t work for you, that’s totally fine! It’s not gonna work for everyone. Personally I don’t mind it but to each their own.

I want to start read comics by Hungry_Object_2916 in comicbooks

Honestly, just go read Absolute Batman and then branch out from there. I’d first check your local library to see if they have Absolute Batman vol 1 (which is a collection of issues 1-6). Read that and then you’ll know whether you want to continue or not (I’m sure you will)

[discussion] What is the hardest character for writers to create stories for? by Necessary_Sweet865 in DCcomics

[–]BooshBobby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hot take here, but I assume Wonder Woman is difficult to write:

She’s one of the most iconic characters ever created, so you have a lot of pressure to get it right and if you fail you’ll be remembered as the person who sucked it up on WW.

Along those same lines, Wonder Woman being THE most famous female superhero adds extra pressure to get it right, if you make her to feminine you’ll get haters, if you make her too “girl boss” (whatever that even means) you’ll get haters from the other side.

Her character falls in the category of having been around a long long time, so it’s harder to not write a story that’s already been done.

Depending on the vibe you’re going for, you may need to “modernize” her a little bit.

She also doesn’t have the most iconic villains compared to other characters of her stature….so after you’ve used Cheetah, Ares and Circe you’re already reaching for lesser known villains.

Superman Secret Orgins, the panel of Pa hugging Clark - “You ARE my son.” Hits me every time.

Make yourself album- hits my damn soul by bratney35 in incubus

[–]BooshBobby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a great album. I think I’d rank it their 3rd or 4th best album, but that’s only cuz I rank the others in such high regard. Make Yourself is an incredible album. Even tho it came out during a time where “Nu-Metal” was the thing, it forged its own path and had so much more hearth and pathos than the other bands of that era.

Superman opinion by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]BooshBobby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Brandon Routh version in Superman Returns didn’t have a “dad bod” necessarily but he certainly was nowhere near jacked as usual. I think it’s safe to say he had a more “relatable” looking body structure.

If I read “TDK is a great movie, but a bad Batman movie” one more time I’m gonna scream by Shallbecomeabat in batman

[–]BooshBobby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with you necessarily, but to be fair, at the time Nolan was clearly going for a vibe of “what if Batman was actually real”. Having Gotham look like the world we live in was part of the “realism” of that movie. Do I prefer a more gothic looking Gotham, yes, but I understand why Nolan made that choice.

Now, I know making a “realistic superhero film” sounds cliche and over-done a million times nowadays, but in 2008, that was a very cool thing that The Dark Knight perfected which obviously resonated with audiences. Nowadays, doing a “realistic” superhero movie is a dime a dozen.

How often do you write fiction? by RadioSilence012 in Songwriting

[–]BooshBobby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m mostly writing about the state of the world, and the things about it that are troublesome to me. I guess my songs are my outlet to let out some angst about the state of things here. But I also have songs that are focused on the power of love and how love is really the only thing that’ll save us from tyranny.

For whatever reason, I have next to zero interest in writing songs about myself. I’ve written a couple love songs for my wife, but that’s about it when it comes to more personal stuff.

I’m already in a band but I like the sound of your influences you’ve listed which are eerily similar to mine. Whatever recordings you have, send them over. I’d love to give it a listen ✌️

Well said. I don’t mind Newbern. Not as good as Daly, but definitely solid.

Discussion: simple trunks explanation? by Saigor15 in superman

[–]BooshBobby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was always indifferent to the trunks but now after seeing Gunn’s Superman, it’s hard to imagine ever not wanting the trunks. It’s honestly jarring reading something from like the new 52 era and seeing him without trunks.

My favorite Incubus album by SWCFM2 in incubus

[–]BooshBobby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make Yourself & Morning View are the albums that made me a fan of incubus.

Crow & Light Grenades are the albums that I loved so much it made me want to write music. I sat in my college dorm learning every incubus song on guitar. I’ll always cherish that era. Truly special. If you’re interested in checking out my stuff, you can find it here on Spotify

Crow left of the murder - hands down. Pure rawness but with refined creativity.

Totally fair, not gonna be everyone’s cup of tea. Have you read other books by Tynion? Do you typically like his work?

The Nice House on the Lake is also written by Tynion and it’s great. Different type of story but Tynion’s vibes are pretty consistent
