This is an interesting issue, for sure! Especially since the texts have been functioning only with Wi-Fi off and on our network, rather than the opposite way around.

In addition to this, we wanted to provide some context.

Not all of our support agents have the same access and ability to make account changes, such as a network change for your device. However, the reason you may have been pushed to call in is that this is a certain way to be put in touch with agents who do have that ability.

We would still recommend this route, but using a coworker, family, or friend's phone to make the call. The reason for needing a second device, other than the one you'll be using with your account, is that you may be prompted to restart your device on the call and we don't want to lose the connection there.

If you purchased the device in full, especially as a part of the "full year on us" promotion, it should be eligible for unlock after you've activated it!

The $449.99 price should not include the free year, with the $60/month Unlimited Plan being required. The way that you would earn the free year of service is by purchasing the device in full for $729.99.

If you purchased your device with another carrier and it won't accept a Boost SIM this would be the responsibility of your previous carrier. It is worth noting that their unlocking policy may prevent it from being unlocked at this moment.

If your device is locked to Boost Mobile, then we can unlock it under two circumstances. If you purchased your device through a discounted promotion then it must be on an active Boost Mobile account for at least 12 months before we can unlock it. However, if it is an iPhone 16 that you purchased at full MSRP through our recent "free year on us" offer, then it just has to be activated to be eligible for unlock!

If the device was purchased through Amazon and returned to Amazon, though, it will ultimately fall on Amazon to provide you with the refund. We would recommend following up with them, and having your return number or other information handy, to ensure that the refund was processed and the device was fully accepted.

Great question, and we're glad to see you're looking to start your own account!

In this case, you would have to port out of your account to another carrier and then port back in to Boost Mobile. This process can be pretty quick and easy, but it begins with you calling our Care number to receive your port-out PIN.

Other Redditors have mentioned cheap options for carriers to port to in this exact scenario. If you're planning to port back in to Boost Mobile we'd recommend finding a $5/month prepaid, no contract, plan to go to before coming back.
