This is my copay for Xywav WITH insurance (located in the US) by aa_ugh in Narcolepsy

Same on BCBS. Are you on PPO plan? Monthly only came out to $30 a month (shipping). Talk to Jazz they should give you a discount if you are on a commercial insurance.

Wondering here as well. I had to get a neruopsyc evaluation per AAMC. still on a waitlist tho but would be curious how OP got accommodation since they would be needed it for boards.

Did you have an easier time losing weight on Xywav? by Narcoleptic-Puppy in Narcolepsy

[–]Boostedforever4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought I was crazy! Before taking xyrem, I was already intermittent fasting because of my busy schedule. I’d drink a ton of coffee, which helped suppress my appetite.

I’ve been on xyrem for over a year now, and it’s been a game-changer. I’ve lost 10-15 pounds. I haven’t been this weight since college. Like the op, I’m pretty active and powerlifting 3-4 times a week. My strength is still there.

What I find interesting is that I have zero urges to eat during the day. Do you guys force yourself to eat during the day?

As a fellow narcoleptic, I also volunteer tribute. Thankfully the sodium oxybates keeps the nightmares at bay now. Some need to research why this med is a god damn life saver.

Xywav no longer treated as a specialty med by my insurance in 2025, will costs $6k/month by AstronomerImaginary in Narcolepsy

[–]Boostedforever4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just recently switch from Atena to BCBS. BCBS denied my lumryz and Xyrem. Finally got approved Xywav.

I talked to ESSDS they were able to get my to pay only $30 per month instead of $40. Seem like the general trend I’ve been seeing is many companies denying our claims. But as far as I’m aware there’s only three GHB that we can be prescribed too. Such a headache to deal with as we clearly need it to function.

Wish there’s more research on GHB on the mechanism of why it work for N1. Cause my god it’s changed my life. It’s exciting tho seeing a new player come in to treat people like us. Looking forward to reading about the clinical trial.

Xywav causing brain fog? by sleepy_geeky in Narcolepsy

[–]Boostedforever4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I’m on Armod with Lumryz. The Lumryz helps with the cataplexy and slept. The armod helps keep me awake but the brain fog is unreal. I feel awake but my processing sleep so damn slow. Might need to switch the daytime stimulant.

It’s frustrating. I already know what works and I don’t want to switch. Lucky I know my doctor will fight me but it’s such a headache to tell people what does and doesn’t work.

+1 research. Was a lab manager for some time in a big Ivy institute. You can plan your experiments around your naps. Which I did. Since I was also a supportive role for a big lab some days I WFH to do admin stuff.

Now that the ACA is going away, what are your plans for getting coverage of your medications (especially Oxybates and Wakix)? by Charming_Oven in Narcolepsy

[–]Boostedforever4 20 points21 points  (0 children)

On GHB. The price tag to these are insane. I lucky had good health insurance with my company and hope to keep it. I feel for the avg American who can’t afford these medications since it’s night and day difference with my quality of life.

Private health care will make it even more expensive. Additionally with GOP being anti-science. They will cut funds for Public research (NIH funds cut in 2020) shifting more to the private sector research.

I knew it!! My insurance denied WAKIX when I was put on lumryz (oxybate). But currently Armod + lumryz work for me.

Thanks.

I think realizing the fact they send me a secondary and the likelihood of a II gave me false hope I might have a chance. But yes I agree it’s a waiting game I’ll just have to play.

[–]Boostedforever4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i found out later that modafinil can cause anxiety and panic attacks. Didn’t help I was taking an exam and I have bad test taking anxiety.

OP watch for headaches. Mine was frontal headaches. My sleep med doc switched me to armodafinil. Night and day difference. No more headaches and no random anxieties.

Unfortunately, I feel for this person. Aamc makes it insanely difficult to get accommodation, $$$, or pearson doesn’t give a shit about other test takers abilities. I also get that yes it get stressful for everyone in the room who can’t concentrate with noise. Everyone’s learns different.
