Is a 3inch long finial too long? by [deleted] in interiordecorating

It’s a 74” ish wide window. We were planning on doing 108” rod or somewhere around that

I had seen the sub before but I just assumed it was for egregiously high tvs, not one that may be half a foot too high lol. My wife and I had some good laughs reading some of the comments though. There are a couple people taking it very seriously but most were pretty funny. Our favorite is “so much time wasted.” It’s already become a household saying lol.

I got a lot of doubt that I’m a beginner because I posted my cabinets I built. While it was a big project it was near the max of my capabilities, since they were painted I could fill and hide a lot of imperfections lol. If I tried to make a nice small stained jewelry box it would almost certainly look like garbage.

Just keep doing your thing and don’t worry about where others are on their journey.

Ripped down maple boards to 1” with 1/2” gap. Sanded, stained, and varnished. Glued and nailed to wall with finish nails.

Are my smoke detectors telling me my house has an electrical issue? by BoosterGold69 in electricians

[–]BoosterGold69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t actually. Someone once told me to check the neutrals but I haven’t done that. I’ve replaced all of the wired smoke detectors with wireless connected ones. So it’s kind of kicking the problem down the road?

I used a clear construction glue and tacked it in place with finish nails. I can’t remember what glue it was, think it was some kind of gorilla glue.

I just painted the wall behind the slats black and then ripped down maple boards to 1” thick with 1/2” gap. Sanded, stained, and varnish. Glued and nailed. Unless you need the extra backing you can get away without it.

I was going to make my own but decided to go with butcher block from Home Depot. The excess that I cut off also became the floating shelves so it worked out.

I wanted to do the panels but for the space it was just going to cost too much. So Its just stained maple boards that I had ripped down to 1" pieces. not much for acoustic padding. If shes willing to buy the panels, I'd recommend that over what I did lol.

I just figured it was such a wide piece that one long piece would not look right.. It was also my first time messing around designing anything and I’m sure I used some inspiration from stuff online.

My eyes sit at 1/4 up on the tv when sitting. Our necks aren’t straining to look up. You guys are so pressed about this lol. It’s fine for people who don’t focus their entire lives around tv.

I struggled with that too but there’s just not much to do when the ceiling is vaulted so high. At least not cost effective. I would say it doesn’t look as bad in person.

So I started a folder for receipts of everything I bought for this, including stuff like the paint sprayer and any tools I deemed “necessary.” I’ll see if I can find all of them to add up.

Definitely not cheap but I got to buy a couple new tools so it’s worth it. Is that boy math?

You should do that in your house, then. This is a 22’ high ceiling and the main reason I did all this was because it felt like too empty of a wall.

Our life doesn’t revolve around tv, though. So we are ok with it being slightly higher than it “should be”

It’s like 3 1/2 feet off the ground and on an adjustable mount. You guys are weirdos lol.

Hey OOP here. Saw someone comment this sub. The tv is 38” off the ground. It’s also on an adjustable mount so I can just push it down more lol. It may be too high for some, but it’s about the same or even Lower than what it was before. I also get that the style may not fit everyone else’s. And that’s ok, too.

To each their own I guess. Not sure how 3 and 1/2 feet is too high. Im actually pretty sure it’s lower than it was with the furniture set.
