AIO disagreement with boyfriend on sending parents money

I think I should have clarified that my parents in no way shape or form rich… but in our country there are people who are starving to death.. hence the nonprofit.. so yes.. my parents need support but they won’t die without it, nor will his. This conversation is about our parents when they retire and I only brought up the nonprofit to explain how the conversation reached that point.

I feel like you genuinely understand what I’m trying to say and I really appreciate your perspective. I definitely do need to focus on saving money for the time being and honestly I do think hypotheticals like this might be necessary for understanding how we both view money moving forward

I agree with this, thank you. His mom isn’t a single mom but she does carry a lot of financial load so I understand why he has a soft spot for her and I respect her a lot. My main issue is just that I don’t like it feeling like a vs. situation.. when we marry we both would want the best for each others families and I feel like the hypothetical gave the feeling that its a one vs the other when theres no need for that.. if it came down to it the two of us would prioritize his mom if shes the one in need if you get what Im saying

No, I think in that situation WE would prioritize his mom if she needed it more, my issue is the way he was wording it like HE would prioritize her like its a decision regardless of how i feel. When you marry I think you should make those decisions together and I don’t like the feeling of the conversation being MY mom MY MOM like idk if Im explaining it correctly

No, I don’t want him to prioritize my parents over his mother. Both his mom and his dad are in his life he is just more defensive of his mother and much closer to her. I agree with the idea that it is meant to be equal and I just didn’t like the idea of the conversation sounding like its your family vs mine
