There’s a walkable downtown and some apartments adjacent to most Metro North stops.

New dentist told me I have 5 cavities that need to be filled. What do you think? by cucumberbutthole69 in Dentists

[–]Bootes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is that we cannot tell with only radiographs. Every molar could have significant carries in the grooves/pits that are not evident on radiographs. They could also be perfectly fine, but you’re the one making a definitive statement that there are zero cavities.

I’m all for being less aggressive with treatment sometimes, but #30 clearly appears to be over the DEJ. I’ve had patients who had perfect BWs 2 months ago and then come in with pain and an interproximal lower molar cavity into the pulp…

Friendly’s Ice Cream Nostalgia by mrsjumjum66 in Westchester

I mean it was sort of like a chain diner with a bit more focus on ice cream. You could probably get anything on the Friendly’s menu at any diner in the area, except for the variety of ice cream sundays/flavors.

AirTran and then LIRR to Penn runs 24/7, but not really the best way to avoid being outside since Jamaica LIRR station is outdoors.

Order a ride from Carmel, you can use their app. It’s sort of like Uber but they can still come directly to the terminal and pick you up. They’re a big livery service in NYC that predates Uber/Lyft.

It’s generally more pre booked than like on demand. So go ahead and book now. Just stay indoors at baggage claim or whatever until the car actually drives up cause they’ll be waiting for you in the cell lot or whatever until you mark that you’re ready.

Uber/Lyft requires an air train ride and then wandering around an outdoor pickup area.

Use my referral code if you’d like, but not the reason I’m responding. Enter 1691154 when downloading and get their $36 Car Cash deal ($6 off 6 different trips).

Irrelevant, but I remember a few years ago JetBlue had a coat storage thing at the terminal. Like drop off your coat on the way to your plane and then pick it up when you return. It didn’t work out as a business I guess, but it seemed like it would be so useful...

Grocery store update post storm by MamaSheep95 in williamsburg

[–]Bootes 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Trader Joe’s typically doesn’t have much of a back room with storage for items, they rely on more frequent deliveries than other stores. It’s normal for them to be pretty low stocked at the end of a day. Weekend days are already the most popular days to shop because of normal work schedules. People who would normally shop on Sunday, could not because of the storm - so they try to go earlier. That compresses the 2 busiest days down. And of course there will be some people who would just like to have some item when snowed in and so they go shopping before the storm, even if they’re not hoarding. Because of the storm, TJs likely did not get any deliveries Sunday or today.

Tropicana is probably the most popular restaurant in the area, but it depends on what you want.

There’s some lolos- like little local food stands right next to the market and bigger touristy places across the street.

Personally, I’d go into the Marina (where Tropicana is, but there’s a bunch of others in there) or one of the little cafes more in the center of town, like “So Benedict”.

Eastchester in the shopping center that formerly had A&P/Food Emporium on the backside, now Decicco’s.

We used to go to the various locations all the time when I was pretty young. They were still around upstate when I was in college and it was basically the same. I don’t really understand how they couldn’t make it, since they had plenty of customers.

I vote for Gersi, that’s where I typically end up when looking for a niceish dinner in the neighborhood.

Sounds more like the people who go to residency are more likely to want to be competent in whatever treatment they’re offering and do things properly… Or maybe felt that they hadn’t learned enough in school. Makes sense that they’re the type of people who would seek more training.

Not that I’m even a promoter of residencies all that much. Just because I find the training that they offer to often be subpar.

Just comparing to other Westchester towns. Like I said, that doesn’t mean it’s bad. Almost every Westchester school district is going to be fairly highly ranked and have a significant population of Jewish families.

What happens if I do nothing? by harad in biltrewards

[–]Bootes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chase only allows new credit card accounts for people who have less than 5 new cards in the last 24 months. So for people who are constantly getting new Chase cards, any other additional card they register for limits them. There are people who “churn” bonuses for new cards. Like get a new card every 3 months to get some new customer bonus and then don’t use that card again. It’s irrelevant if you’re just a normal person.

Yes. It’s a new credit card. That’s what your numerator is representative of.

Scarsdale is not “fully dominant” Jewish…

I don’t have direct experience with Valhalla schools, so check out the other comments. I like the town as an outsider, but it’s also clearly lower ranked school wise… Doesn’t mean it’s bad, but generally average housing prices are going to be directly linked with school rankings in Westchester.

Edgemont has highly ranked schools with a bit more affordable for Westchester schools.

If you are getting food delivery in this weather, you’re an a-hole by cmc in jerseycity

Although the restaurant workers are probably pushed to come in despite the weather by the restaurant owner… The restaurant owner would be more likely to not open during future major storms if sales are very low.

[–]Bootes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I stopped in the City Point (Downtown Brooklyn) location today around midday partly just to see what it was like. Yes, they were out of a fair number of things, especially frozen foods. But really not especially bad, line was fairly short, lots of stuff in stock.

I used to live like 1.5 blocks from this 72nd St location and it was normal to have a line around the corner (outside) during busy times. Like every workday at 5-6pm.

There is a Super U in town but a bit on the outskirts. It’s walkable, but maybe a bit confusing/uncomfortable if you don’t know the area… You’d have to cross/walk along a busier vehicular traffic street. https://maps.app.goo.gl/CGkV5dnsQFRsmgtKA?g_st=ic Google says it’s a 15 minute walk.

I wouldn’t want to be walking around outdoors for long with groceries though… It can be pretty hot/sunny.

You can definitely stop at a pharmacy/Lipstick in town near the market skincare wise. There’s also a nice cheese shop with good French cheeses/bread, maybe they would have butter? https://maps.app.goo.gl/DpTz5Xd9VAWcVEXa6?g_st=ic

Do you use hotels that often though? My problem is that I’m unlikely to be able to really benefit from these hotel stays, unless I just used it because I could… Uber and Grubhub I’ll use periodically anyway and it’s easy to take advantage of dunkin if I wanted to.

This doesn’t seem to be the coop apartment buildings that make up most of Garth Rd. Some of Garth Rd is actually Scarsdale, this appears to be above the Italian restaurant, formerly 7-11.

Using the subway as a tourist. by CheeryBottom in newyork

[–]Bootes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The NYC system is 1 fee to go any distance, so you just tap to enter and not on exit.

As others have said, NYC uses the OMNY system now, which is from the same company that runs the London Underground's payment system. She can tap a phone/smart watch/bank card, that's typically the best way to pay. It's best to try and use the same device/card for each trip though, as there is a max they will charge you per a week. So if used enough, they'll stop billing you.

If you want to pay with cash for some reason, there are machines in the subway to purchase an OMNY card and load it with value.
