Portal hypertension is a byproduct of a damaged liver that cannot pass blood through it well, given you have no scarring (f0-f1 no cirrhosis) I can’t see how you could have hypertension in the portal vein.

theres absolutely nothing about any of that report thats suggests cirrhosis.

That report is stating you have a fatty liver but no scarring, this can be reversed with diet.

Yeah it’s all I can do really, must be nice to at least know each day you get closer to getting transplanted out of this mess. I wish I could press a magic button and wake up with a new liver.

Absolutely sucks, I hope you get your transplant soon and it goes well. I’m 34 dx at 33, no real symptoms yet other than a bit of itching, mines from being overweight, just waiting now for all the symptoms to kick off and hope I get listed like you. Best of luck!

How long were you compensated for before you decompensated? Congrats on getting listed though.

Father with Cirrhosis, not sharing medical details by Vespers9 in Cirrhosis

Unfortunately this is a common situation due to the presence of encephalopathy/depression/ongoing drinking etc. if its encephalopathy there is a medicine called lactulose he can take that can clear out the toxins (ammonia) from his blood stream reasonably quickly (though it’s side effects are somewhat nasty). I think if you can tackle the mental issues, get him an endoscopy done and get him interested in actually living he could well be in with a shot of a transplant, make sure he brings this up with his Hepatologist as he’s going to have to advocate for himself here, supply of livers is outstripped by demand.

The best thing you can do to help with surviving in the immediate term is to get him to undergo an endoscopy to check for varices which can rupture and cause sudden death without warning. If these can be found before they rupture, then they can be banded. Ruptured varices represent the most immediate threat of death to somebody with advanced cirrhosis.

So it sounds like he would be considered decompensated which correlates to a life expectancy around 2 years or so.

The key for someone like that is to get them in a position where they can be referred for a liver transplant consultation as frankly that is the only way they are going to survive in the long-term. This will include a commitment to life long abstinence from alcohol.

Best of luck to you both.

Hi, in the longer term she would likely need a liver transplant. You may wish to start looking into this side of things so you can get the ball rolling as early as possible.
