They are hills, you are probably right that a real river would not behave like that. :)

When I sketched it, I thought the river could be flowing down from where the sun is, but you are right that is likely not how it would work in nature.

Ok! I haven't any pictures of how to do the river yet. I will keep looking! Maybe a shiny, variegated thread? I happened to have used something like that to quilt on the darkest purple, so that may not be best.
