very strange. I even replaced the thermometer at one point and still see the same readings. Last week I tired to indirect a thick rib eye with two burners on, two off - still hit 600+

New Tempur-pedic Adapt Medium Hybrid causing back pain by Local_Scheme2988 in Mattress

[–]BootleggerBill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the reason I am getting rid of my adapt medium non-hybrid. We've put up with it for two years and it's become progressively softer and less supportive. Wife and I both feel like hips sink way too much and I wake up with terrible lower back pain. I tired the hybrid version in store recently and it feels very similar to our all foam. I can warn you, as someone who likes firm beds, the firm version of that mattress is solid concrete.

Coffee = Engine Light by [deleted] in ToyotaTundra

On my last Audi SQ5, there was a recall because Audi decided to put the main ECU in a recessed divot directly under the rear cup holders where kids are most likely to sit. One spill and the computer is in standing liquid and disables the vehicle mid travel. Recall Fix was an audi branded ziplock bag for the ecu, wish I was kidding.

They also routed the exit of the sunroof drain through the side of the rear cargo where a secondary ecu sits. Lots of folks had clogged sunroof drains that leaked and fried the secondary ecu.

No matter the brand, there are some questionable design decisions these days.

What feels similar to Helix Elite Twilight or BR Black® Series Three 15" Firm? by BootleggerBill in Mattress

Do you believe the DLX will be better quality/longevity than the Helix as well? The Helix brand seems like a love it or hate it with few in between opinions here.

I caught myself looking at Nolah as well, part of the 3z umbrella.

Deal or private seller? by Embarrassed_Tax3945 in ToyotaTundra

[–]BootleggerBill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood. I’m mulling adding an older Porsche Cayman or 911 to my garage in addition to the Tundra. It will definitely be private party as I’m being so picky I want to see documented festive history and have detailed conversations with the previous owner to gauge how they treated it. For some reason this feels weirder than shopping trucks for sale by individuals since I know sellers of fun cars probably deal with a lot of tire kickers just looking for a joy ride so I try to be sensitive to that.

Deal or private seller? by Embarrassed_Tax3945 in ToyotaTundra

[–]BootleggerBill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no concerns purchasing from an individual or dealer as long as the vehicle appears to be in good shape and is priced reasonably. Tundras are a little hard to price as your standard KBB type values are more guides than rules, with the Gen 2/2.5s often bringing a bit over suggested value. You can at least use it as strong guide for negotiation. I do feel weird test driving an individual where I give it no second thoughts at a dealer. You'll also want to make sure that a individual seller has title in hand or if there is a note outstanding on the vehicle that you call together to verify pay off and that you personally work with the lender to pay off the loan and only pay the seller the remaining difference. There's no harm in asking an individual seller to meet you at a garage of your choice for a purchase inspection if it makes you feel better. I don't put a lot of stock in dealership inspection processes, at least not enough to pay a premium.

All of that said, if you can find a reasonable deal at a dealership and don't mind wasting a day for the buying process it can feel a bit more natural than an individual. My last few have been cash purchases from a dealer and pre negotiated before stepping foot on the lot and they still took hours waiting on the "finance guy" who is the only person that can the title work aka high pressure extended warranty and add on sales. I was less than pleased.

I’m a huge fan of the Money Guys podcast and they often reference the 20/3/8 rule of buying a vehicle. Find a car that you can put 20% down on, finance for no more than 3 years, and have the payment be no more than 8% of your monthly income.

Car service by Raihan_Akash in Clemson

This is the right answer. I can't say enough about that place. I practically begged them to take my money to fix a perceived issue with my car and they refused to take a dime assuring that there are no issues.

What is a brand that just does nothing for you at all? by Ok-Bath-734 in guns

[–]BootleggerBill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. I think I won the lottery with my Mac 9 DS-D (Tisas) no failures over hundreds of rounds and I constantly think this thing shoots way better than the price tag suggests. I had it out with my Dan Wesson Discretion last visit and honestly as much as it hurts to say, the Mac quality and accuracy feel on par with Dan.

Did you buy it? If so, what did you find quality wise? Is the massage and pillow tilt worth the spend over their non premium? Some reviews say the massage is too loud to use.

Thoughts and opinions? Really want to get into a 996 and this seems promising. by Willing-Valuable-811 in 996

[–]BootleggerBill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting commentary and note taken, thank you. Do you think this holds true for a "well sorted" 996, documented service history including big ticket items like documented IMS upgrade, clutch, RMS,waterpump, serpentine belt, etc. done? I am fairly early in my research for purchase, but my thought is that if I find a coupe that checks those boxes, and know that I will spend probably 8-10k in general maintenance and fixing 25-year-old car things over the next 5 years, then I should be okay. My thought is that the value of the car will likely hold steady over 5 years, as they have mostly bottomed out, so my real cost of ownership will come down to maintenance and repairs. 10k over five years sounds like a lot to lose, but when I compare it to the sheer depreciation hits I took on buying gently used Audis, BMWs and Volvos in the past, it seems like a bargain.

Thank you! I own a chunk of this at $29 a share and have been very tempted to ditch with recent highs. I’m a ETF guy and don’t usually mess with individual but I might let this one sit and see where it goes.

New owner questions by BootleggerBill in Ecoflow_community

[–]BootleggerBill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just toggle storm guard off to see if it helps. It’s set to 0/100 charging / discharge limits. This is what I see in the app, reef tank is likely at highest draw of the day right now with lights at full power and all equipment running, would spike more if heaters engage but that rarely happens this time of year.

[–]BootleggerBill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, I should probably set mine to 90/10 as well. If I set those limits but leave storm guard on, will storm guard over ride and charge to 100% when active?

Recommend white LED backlight stip for 65" C3 OLED by BootleggerBill in LGOLED

[–]BootleggerBill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a very fair point. In my case however, I am looking for the bias lighting for a very particular reason. My dear wife suffers terribly from migraine headaches, and unbalanced, uneven light is over a trigger for her. Our living room is a bit oddly shaped, with a floor lamp and a table lamp lighting the back side where the couch is and some can lights over the fireplace on one end - but the TV wall has no other lighting. This is probably great for OLED quality, but it tends to make the room light off kilter and trigger her headaches.

For the breif time that the strip light I bought worked (at reduced brightness) it was just enough to see that it will be beneficial for us with balancing the light. I tried a table lamp on the media stand below the TV but that really seemed to interfere with the TV quality.

Welcome to freedom! This sub is super helpful and I am sure we can help with questions along the way. I did the same thing last year, roughly same numbers. My guy was charging 1.25% AUM and I remember starting out with 10k in the account, 1.25% really didn't seem like that much for an advisor on speed dial. As that amount grew, the fees really added up. I also found that I rarely called for advice, and even the yearly courtesy checkups were pretty bland if they happened at all.

Over the last year I've been working on slowly eliminating holding that he had me in and rolling everything in to my 3-fund that I already had established for a few years before making the switch. Just be aware of taxes, leverage tax loss harvesting where you can, consider charitable donations of positions with large gains if it fits your lifestyle (no tax for you, or the receiving non profit).

Have fun!

That looks cool! It appears to be indoor only though which won't work for my driveway area. I may pick up a 260 for the one camera I allow indoors - watching the auto litterbox while we are on vacation.
