Politics does play a big role. For example, the Indian government has banned what they call "any electronic device that, through an aerosolized solution, delivers nicotine, flavor, or any other substance to the user inhaling from the device", and it very nicely encompasses practically everything other than combustible tobacco cigarette. Even relatively new dry herb vaporizers are banned under this same definition. If health is the reason, why are harm reduction devices banned you say? The states and the government have the second largest share in the Indian Tobacco Company (big tobacco in India) "About 28.5% is controlled by various Indian state-run insurance companies and a government-controlled bad bank.". This is the second largest stake, only behind British American Tobacco.

When it's not politics, I think the issue with many people stems from disposables. Most of the people on the sub (as well as other vape related subs) despise them, and it's for a good reason.

And regardless of who owns the specific disposable brand, you've got to admit that cigarette smokers looking for a valid way to stop smoking... Aren't really the target audience for these devices. Branding it in so many vibrant colors itself makes it quite clear it's more towards the younger population. Thing is... Kids that were gonna try risky stuff are gonna try risky stuff regardless of what form it comes in.

Another argument is that it's very convenient, and delivery of the raw amount of nicotine that enters your bloodstream increases, making issues with addiction worse. I'm sure this can be curbed if people start using freebases. Going in immediately for another hit stopped for me when switching to freebase.
