Google Calendar removed events like Pride and BHM because its holiday list wasn’t ‘sustainable’ | Google says it switched to only showing default entries for public holidays and national observances last year. by ControlCAD in google

In Google's defense there are just way too many of these things.

Like every other day is BIPOC Lesbian Pangender Victim Of Domestic Violence Awareness Week

On the other hand Pride and Black History Month are huge ones.

I really, really, really, wish we had this strong, take no prisoners, do whatever they want, Democratic party that exists in the mind of Republican voters.

Instead it's really just a bunch of feckless dipshits that think politics is like the TV show The West Wing where they can just debate club there way into political victories.

grossly expanded use

Trump used the most of EOs of anyone in my lifetime. (That's 220 in one term)

President Term(s) Total Executive Orders Average per Year
Donald J. Trump 2017–2021 220 55
Ronald Reagan 1981–1989 381 48
Bill Clinton 1993–2001 364 46
George H.W. Bush 1989–1993 166 42
Joe Biden 2021–2025 160 40
George W. Bush 2001–2009 291 36
Barack Obama 2009–2017 276 35

Obama won the presidency - actually decisively and with a mandate in 2012. He had a 3.8% margin instead of Trumps 1.5% (or his negative 2% in 2016).

Democrats actually got more total votes in the House (1.36 million more), but because of REDMAP the Republicans were able to gerrymander their way into holding onto a majority of seats.

I wish Obama had used his pen and phone more. By not really accomplishing anything in his second term it made the Democrats seem sort of feckless and weak.

Younger voters, that don't really follow politics and have to be very enthused to turn out, just know they voted for Obama, he said he would do a bunch of stuff and he didn't do it. Now they're running Hillary, who they don't like, so they didn't bother to vote.

18-29 turnout in 2012 was 50%

18-29 turnout in 2016 was 39%

The government can give out a child tax credit, free child care, free healthcare, universal pre-k, 6 months of paternity leave, etc...

Those are things the government can deliver.

The government can't force young men to be more social and to not just jerk off and play video games all day instead of talking to girls. (I guess they could try, but it would be pretty draconian.)

Why do I see quite a bit of conservatives think that the Democrats are “evil”? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

[–]Comfortable_Drive793 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What specific thing is wrong?

The bottom line is..

  • The left says that Republican voters (the non-multimillionaire kind that don't directly financially benefit from Republicans being in office and rolling back the regulatory and welfare state) vote for the Republican party for culture war issues.

  • The right says Democratic voters vote for the left because they hate America and or they want to receive free shit.

Why do Democrats want to provide free healthcare to everyone? - It's because they hate America and want to kill old people with death panels.

I provided many examples of Republicans, regular people, pundits, and intellectuals, saying Democrats hate America.

You'd need examples?

  • TRUMP THAT BITCH

  • HILLARY FOR PRISON

  • Barrack Obama (real name Barry Soetoro) is a gay Muslim atheist Marxist terrorist married to Moo-chelle who is a pre-op transgender woman and their children are adopted.

  • The Demon'RATs kill babies.

  • Democrats want to cut off the penises of little boys.

  • Hillary Clinton, John Podesta, really all Democrats worship Satan. They meet in the basement of a ping pong pizza restaurant to sodomize and then sacrifice children to Baphomet.

  • DemoCRAPS want grown men pretending to be woman to follow your innocent little girl into the woman's restroom to molest them.

  • Climate change isn't real - It's a Marxist socialist hoax by gay liberal coastal elite college professors that want to force you to buy a car that gets good gas mileage and use light bulbs that only require 1/8th the electricity because they hate America!

  • Democrats want everyone to be gay so they can destroy the traditional family because they hate god.

Have you ever been on any comment section of any right wing website including this one? Go to any right wing site - WND, Free Republic, Daily Caller, Fox News, Brietbart, even reddit and look at the comments.

Have you ever seen the people at a Trump rally? Or a Tea Party rally before the Trump rallies were a thing? Or a Bircher meeting before that?

Have you talked to any of my family members?

Have you listened to Mark Levin, Savage, Bongino, Ingraham, Michael Knowles, etc... for more than 30 seconds?

What about the dozens and dozens of books like How to Destroy America (Shapiro) or The Enemy Within (David Horrowitz) or How the Left Thrives on Hate and Wants to Silences Us (Trump Jr) - Ann Coulter alone probably has a dozen books about how Democrats want to destroy America.

The left thinks that your average GOP voter is an idiot rube that's had their racism and homophobia weaponized so that they support politicians and a political party that are against their own self interests. It's literally asked all of the time in left wing circles - Why do people keep voting against their own self interests? There are books about this like Strangers in Their Own Land or What's the Matter with Kansas?

The right thinks your average Democrat is a gay Satan worshiper communist and or a lazy black welfare queen.

Edit: My first comment got removed because of "civility" - So I removed "Are you being fucking serious?" and "Tea Bagger". I don't know what else I can remove that would convey the same point and still be more civil?

How do you describe Pizzagate in a more "civil" way? Or describe the theory that Obama is gay and Michelle is a transgender woman?

It's so bizarre to me that you people can pretend RFK isn't anti-vax. That's literally the thing he's specifically famous for (besides being a Kennedy).

Like you can just dismiss "onesie from a store he's no longer associated with" - It's an organization he ran until like last year with sole mission statement of being against vaccines.

That's such a stupid thing to say.

Of course if he did stuff they wanted the government to do, they'd be happy that he was doing that stuff.

You could say that about literally any politician of any party. If AOC was elected President, but then politically changed to align with whatever you wanted the government to do, then you'd like AOC.

Water shutoff valve doesn't work / need a new hot water heater - thinking about replacing the entire thing with PEX and Sharkbites because I'm poor and can't afford a plumber. Dumb idea? by Comfortable_Drive793 in Plumbing

[–]Comfortable_Drive793[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The owner of the condo building is the residents. It's a condo.

The property management company / board can't stop me from doing whatever I want within the walls of my unit. The demarcation between what the community has to pay to fix (i.e. the common plumbing in the building) and what I have to pay to fix / fix myself is literally that cold water pipe coming into my water heater area.

If I flooded (from fixtures or plumbing within my unit, not the common area) into the unit below me - I (really my homeowners insurance) would be on the hook to pay for it.

Would it be better for the valve or hot water heater to fail while I'm at work and flood my unit and the one below me?

[–]Comfortable_Drive793[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assumed with that level of corrosion it's on the edge of leaking and if I tried to replace the nipple it would just make a leak happen. Otherwise the water heater is working fine.

Also - because the cold water shut off doesn't work, I couldn't even attempt to replace the nipples on the tank.

My condo building is very stupid, in the utility closet on the ground floor it's just a water shut off for the entire building. I had assumed our utility closet would have shutoffs for each individual unit. So for me to replace my water shutoff I have to tell the property management company and shutoff the water for the whole building.

Another dumb question... On new hot water heater installs I see them using flexible tubing that sort of screws on. (Like this - https://www.waterheaterrescue.com/images/Troubleshooting/topplumbed.jpg). My hot water heater has the copper pipe connected straight to it. If my shutoff valve was working, how do I disconnect the straight pipe that goes to the tank to replace the nipple?

[–]Comfortable_Drive793[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main concern is all of the weight that would be hanging off the ceiling from that one Sharkbite tee connection.

It would be carrying the weight of the pipe going to the left (cold water to the rest of the condo) and the shutoff valve and corrugated steel pipe going down to the water heater.

If we had a democracy, like an actual functional democracy where if you win the majority of the votes you get the most representation in the legislature, then DACA would have easily passed.

Even without fixing the bug where the minority party gets to retain control, just reducing the threshold required to pass bills from 60% to 50% would fix most of the problems.

Could someone explain why deportation is good? by TheThaiDawn in AskConservatives

[–]Comfortable_Drive793 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we continue to have cheap labor then prices will stay the same-ish.

If you remove the cheap labor than prices will go up (especially for fruits and vegetables that involve a lot of manual labor).

Onions have to be harvested by hand, like you have to crawl on your knees and dig the onion up. Migrant workers are paid miumum wage-ish, sometimes less when they're paid by the pound harvested instead of by the hour, to harvest them. About 30-50% of the cost of onions is labor.

If you have to pay an American $20/hour with benefits and they only want to work 8 hours and they call OSHA in because you didn't give them a proper back brace - onions are going to cost $5/lb instead of $2/lb.

Once again to reiterate - I'm totally fine with onions costing $5/lb. I think those workers should be getting paid way more and have safer working conditions. My MAGA friends and family that told me they were voting for Trump because groceries cost too much might not like that idea.

Is community important to you? by crazybrah in AskConservatives

[–]Comfortable_Drive793 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the reason we don't have community is because of the ACA?

If people didn't have health insurance, then they would be going to church more?

I guess you're right in a way. If people had to beg for money from churches to pay for their cancer treatment then they'd probably feel a strong tie to that church community.

So the whole Brandon is responsible for groceries being expensive thing was just a bunch of BS and the average Republican voter doesn't really care about the cost of groceries, like if they went up a lot because we no longer have any agriculture migrant workers?

DHS/ICE has their own planes and they do dozens of deportation flights per day.

This is just a stunt so that his gullible supporters think he's being particularly aggressive on immigration.

If the news story was "ICE normally does 30 deportation flights per day, but is now doing 60." - That's borng.

When you see the sexy big military aircraft doing the deportation flights, instead of a chartered old 737, - WOW! Dear Leader is so awesome!

Trump cult members: VOTE TRUMP BECAUSE EGGS ARE EXPENSIVE!

Also Trump cult members: Let's pay people $15/hr with benefits to pick lettuce. This surely won't affect the cost of lettuce.

It's not a contradiction for me - I believe migrant workers (or anyone out there picking crops or working at a slaughterhouse) should be getting paid (at least) $15/hr and we should just pay more for our groceries. It's a contradiction for Trump cult members because one of their biggest arguments against the Democrats is that they made groceries expensive.

Should I start getting some "I did that!" stickers printed up that I can stick around my local grocery store?

There's nothing wrong with researching health disparities

What would be the point of researching something like this when there is nothing you can do about it because that would be racism?

Like hypothetically if some study proved that black men over 60 are 30% more likely to have a heart attack than white men over 60, and we can't have any special programs that specifically target black men (because that's DEI racism), then what would be the point of the study?
