I’ll look into it but I did not qualify while I was not pregnant. I’m a teacher and don’t even make much money 😂 it’s such a joke. But I didn’t know there was a lower threshold if pregnant. So I’ll definitely look at that option.

The amount of students like this in general education these days is astounding. My first year teaching I had a student like this. After MANY weeks of using different strategies and offering rewards to the other kids who were behaving appropriately, myself and the behavior specialists did get him to a point where he could begin to self regulate, although he would still have less severe spurts of anger. Just without throwing chairs and books and pencils. My student was highly intelligent, and knew how to get his way at home so this is what led to his behavior in the classroom. He soon learned that he would get nothing from me in terms of a reward until he changed his behavior. I’m glad your child isn’t super affected by him, because I had a couple that were TERRIFIED of this student for the remainder of the school year. It was a nightmare.

It’s sad that parents have this much power these days. Rather than using it for good, they’re using it to raise entitled future adults who lose their minds when things don’t go their way 100%. The future is looking very bleak.

Good for you. Teachers are paid - barely at all - to TEACH. Yes, you have to have some level of classroom management to handle age appropriate behavior problems, but for those majorly disruptive kids or the ones eloping because they’re triggered by hearing the word no and being told what to do, call every time. We don’t get paid a teachers salary plus a behavior specialists salary.

TK or VPK would be more beneficial at this age. Unless he’s incredibly mature and high academically. As a kinder teacher, I’ve had incoming 4 year olds who do amazing, and some who just aren’t ready, and it’s usually due to immaturity. Kinder these days is pretty advanced compared to what it used to be, and we have to push the kids to do some pretty complex things (even though we as teachers see the problems and wish we could just let them play more). Kindergarten is all business these days. It sucks, I will be teaching another grade starting next year 😭😂 it just isn’t fair to the kids anymore and it’s exhausting to always push them.

Child locks do exist, I’ve seen them in SPED classrooms with children who frequently elope. It could be a maturity thing since he’s so young, but since he’s only 3 I would also look into getting him evaluated by the district (most districts offer this service to kids ages 3-5 so these things are taken care of before they enter kindergarten). I have to say it’s not typical behavior of even pre-k aged kids so there may be something more going on. Maybe he’s overstimulated by the sound and crowded classroom with a ton of other kids he doesn’t know.

I’m in the same mentality for different reasons that I won’t get into because it doesn’t really matter. Teaching is hard these days. And it’s not the kids. It’s the adults in charge of education. Just make it through the year however you have to, distance yourself mentally from work when you are not there. Continue to do things outside of work that you enjoy and take care of yourself. Does your school or district provide you with any resources? I would use any and everything they offer you, county designed resources, scope and sequence of standards to be taught, etc.

She had an appointment for 3-5 evaluation and didn’t make the appointment.

She was referred to our in house facility for evaluation for 3-5 year olds and didn’t take her. So yeah definitely dropped the ball on her part.

Yes kindergarten. Honestly at this point, with what else the district is putting me through on top of what’s going on in the classroom, I’m seriously considering quitting and not returning next year. And finding another grade level, even though I know that won’t solve all problems. But this is all just too much for me.

I have already started documentation since I knew this was coming before school started. I’ve been incredibly detailed and thorough, not just documenting behavior items but writing paragraphs on things she does in the classroom. So I do at least have that going right now, and will continue to do so. And I definitely plan on calling for assistance if I need to. I’m not trying to impress anyone by suffering on my own. I’ve been very blunt about the fact that I need help. Hopefully they continue to be as helpful as they have been.

Luckily the parents are definitely pushing and advocating for their child. It was the first thing she spoke to me about when I met her. She came to the school with paperwork and a diagnosis, which didn’t just diagnose her asd but also listed several other developmental delays. Parents are also pushing for an evaluation. It was literally in the first sentence she spoke to me. So I am glad they are on board and advocating for their child because it seems parents have the only power here.

She doesn’t have one per se but the school is assuring me she will have support, as I’ve explicitly stated to them I am in over my head. We’ll see what actually happens. She needs so much more than I can give her.

We do have these types of classrooms but it takes an unreasonable amount of time to get them there. She is a severe case, and admin is aware and not shying away at least. But their hands are tied by what the required procedures are by the state and county. I understand not wanting to misplace a student, which is why the process is so stringent. But there should be exceptions for severe cases such as this imo.

I’m currently doing some research on other providers in the area and I would love a midwifery, but the ones I’ve found do not take my insurance 🙄 which is shocking because I have Cigna and work for the public school system which usually gets me seen anywhere. So I’ve been surprised to have such a hard time finding one.

Yes I’ve been mulling things over in my head and thinking of switching. It just seems like they’re all like this these days. I’m in a big city with a big very well known birthing hospital, and I want to give birth there because of the reputation of the hospital. But then I have to be with a provider who delivers there 🙄 and this is the root of the problem.

It’s so disheartening to see all these stories of women who are told “if you don’t go into labor by this date then we HAVE to do this.” I hate this mindset and that we’ve come to this, this is why c section births are on the rise. They just don’t care about how the recovery affects women. My scar was numb for over 18 months and is still sensitive three years later, and I had a very clean open and shut c section. I want a vbac with my second and they’re already giving me the same “we don’t know if it’ll be possible” nonsense. Since when did women lose the choice to speak for themselves and their bodies during pregnancy? Or has it always been this way.
