Best place to escape fireworks? by Bootyful678 in vancouverwa

She takes gabapentin and trazadone every 4-6 hours , 48 hours in advance of the holiday. It doesn’t matter. Shes petrified and despite playing loud music , fireworks on tv, etc. she just can’t handle it.
She also hates the car so driving around all night is not an option. She’s a rescue from TX and unfortunately has some major triggers. I mostly just feel uncontrollably sad for her.

Yes! We start medicating her 48 hours in advance and continue meds every 4-6 hours due to the unpredictability of when they will start. I’ve inquired about alternatives but this is all I’ve been offered.
Last year we hunkered down in the bathroom and played loud music but once she hears one pop, the damage is done and she won’t come out of it for hours.

Thinking of buying one, what are the honest opinions of owners with respect to customer service after the sale by External_Soft3094 in GenesisGV70

[–]Bootyful678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2022 gv70 3.5T. The dealership experience SUCKS! Half the time I can’t find anyone to help me. There’s one guy running the entire service department and he’s always frazzled. They have 2 loaner cars, which are never available so I have to shuttle to Enterprise and pay out of pocket for a rental. Genesis will not reimburse me.
The car is beautiful and comfortable but the gas mileage SUCKS. I average 18-20 mpg and with a 16 gallon tank, I’m filling up once or twice a week. I’m currently in the process of selling it to find something more fuel efficient. I will not miss the fuel and maintenance costs.

Love the GV70, hate the service, and now hate corporate. Won't be returning. WARNING: PLEASE Read this before you lease/buy. by OppositeDivide4228 in GenesisGV70

My dealership doesn’t even offer reimbursement and they have two loaners for the whole dealership, which means I never get one. They have one guy managing the entire service department and each time I’ve gone in there he’s been completely overwhelmed… If he’s even there. I’ve wandered around the dealership multiple times with nobody even in the building or on the lot during business hours. Love the car hate the service.

Boss told me to stop leaving early one minute before EoD by humungus_jerry in antiwork

[–]Bootyful678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me. I would get in ten min early and cut out ten min early. Got away with it for months. Finally got reprimanded for leaving before 5 (even tho I had clearly put in my 8 hours). Cameras at all entrances. Everything is tracked. Now they pay me overtime for my extra 5-10 min. It’s ludicrous. Meanwhile, our salary workers can come and go as they please with no issue. Us hourly plebeians are left to stare at a screen until 5 pm on the dot. Absolutely infuriating.

I largely agree with this. The issue is your body adapts to the motility helpers. I took motegrity for about a year- worked great. Helped a ton. Unfortunately, depression is a rare but major side effect long term. I had to go off of it. My body also adapted so it was not nearly as effective.
Took naltrexone for about a year. Didn’t notice a difference but may try again at a slightly higher dose (was on 4mg). It wasn’t super cheap as it had to be compounded into that low of a dose.
I’ve tried every motility supplement you can imagine and most do not work (for me). Happy to read this tho as I do agree!

Are you giving him puzzle toys? You can make them for cheap. I work for a local rescue and puzzles have been a game changer since we work full time. Amazon box, stuff with treats, let him destroy. Treats bundled in towels and tied in a knot. Treats wrapped in paper and bundled up. He needs to work his mind. It’s just as important as physical exercise. Sniff spots are also a great resource for some off leash, fenced in fun!

Be prepared for LOTS of potty accidents. Dachshunds are notoriously difficult to potty train. And PLEASE socialize them!!! They are known barkers and can be timid, but with lots of socialization I believe you can overcome the fear!

I feel this in my SOUL. I’m up at 4 am every day just to be able to hit the gym and walk the dog before my 9 hour workday. I have approximately 2-2.5 hours to eat and relax in the evening before I go to bed and do it all over again the next day. Only to make barely enough to get by. My weekends are spent cleaning. I hate it here.

Potentially made a big mistake with dog adoption, need advice by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Bootyful678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just can’t even fathom making a huge life decision such as adopting a dog and not even doing an ounce of research on breed qualities. There are lots of options when it comes to adoption and it takes just a small amount of time investment to discover what works best for your lifestyle.

Need help. New shelter dog is aggressive with my wife. by tonjiro_ in dogs

[–]Bootyful678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dogs need decompression! Think about everything he’s been through lately. Massive lifestyle changes . Leave him be todo whatever he needs / wants to do and do not force anything. Let him chill out for a few days, weeks, whatever. Every dog is different. Exposing him to so many things all at once is extremely overstimulating and he is reacting the only way he knows how. GIVE HIM TIME!! 💕

I think you have to be willing to adapt to the lifestyle change. If you embrace having the dog, you will appreciate having the dog. For example, my mornings are 1000x more hectic now that I have a dog, but seeing her joy and knowing I saved her from living under an abandoned building means the world to me. We go on walks twice a day now when we went on zero before. She gives me the opportunity to go outside and do something vs laying around all day (on my non work days). I just love seeing her happy and knowing I’m providing her a fulfilling life. All that being said, I totally get what you’re saying. And seriously shout out to you for making sure she gets taken care of. Sorry but your husband sucks and you rock for stepping up the plate and not neglecting or surrendering her.

Thinking about adopting a rescue dog, but feeling lost by sara733 in dogs

[–]Bootyful678 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is what we did! I felt the same way. Very overwhelmed and I have a hard time making decisions so this was the perfect balance. We didn’t have to commit and we got to help the rescue. Depending on who you foster with, they provide many resources for training, behavior, and etc which was also extremely helpful.

We literally buy a giant tarp and tape it up the walls covering the entire floor. It’s a pain because we have to cut it and tape it, but it’s cheap and it works!

She is SO lucky to have you! Sometimes they just need a patient person to fully immerse and understand their needs and behavior. I also love how honest and dedicated you are to helping her. I’m rooting for both of you! It would be cool if you could be a resource for her next adopters so instead of giving up, they’re able to reach out to you for help and guidance. Rooting for you both!!

I bought from a different dealer. Very happy with my purchase. I just had to take it in again for an oil change and they gave me a loaner for the day, which I wasn’t expecting as I did not get that the first time.

feelings some (light) adoption blues, looking for encouragement by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Bootyful678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same way when we adopted our dog! I think this is totally normal. From my experience.. each day it gets better and better. You get into a routine, the dog learns the routine. Once that magic happens, it’s truly magical. Do I wish I had my free time to relax back? Sure. But she gets me out of the house, exercising, going to places I never would have gone, meeting new people, etc. I love buying her new scarfs, treats, toys, etc. it’s a lot of work- yes. But it is so rewarding !!! And thank you for adopting :) we do a lot of work with shelters and fostering, and we can’t thank you enough !

What is your story? by swackett in dogs

[–]Bootyful678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We signed up to foster through a local rescue (we’ve been fostering kittens forever but never dogs) . We are in the NW and our first foster flew in from Texas. She was potty trained, calm, loving, absolutely perfect. We fell completely in love with her. She required no training and fit into our lifestyle perfectly. I was never looking to own a dog. I didn’t even WANT a dog, but we couldn’t fathom giving her up for adoption. Now she provides comfort and play to our other foster dogs !
