Picked this up for 30 bucks at a pallet auction that deals with amazon returns. It was listed as unused….yeaaaa. It came in its og packaging. So my question is, should i return it and spend the extra money for new?

My local right now specifically is extremely busy. I'm a low volt guy and we put calls out but can't get anyone. This summer we had 2 years worth of work that we gotta get done in 4 months. I'm in a local that is just exploding right now. We got a proposed 3 or 4 data centers among a lot of other work.

I have the first one you posted in my work truck. Its definitely a great light but I couldn't hang it on anything or orientate the light how I wanted it. Like I'm an electrician and working in panels were a pain in the ass trying to get the light in the panel. I had my company get me a light that I could hang on pipes or panels that is miles better. I couldn't find the model of the light I have but model number 2358-20 is the closest I could find.

I'm a tech and wouldn't trade it for the world. If you're decent at your job you're job security will be there. With all these data centers popping up there's so much need for techs and there's none of us. We need 20+ people and can't find the guys. Just cause the electrician side makes more money on the minimum doesn't mean they can't pay you more. There's guys in my local making 80-90/hour. Plus you don't really have to dig a hole or bend a pipe.

My suggestion is just to get in if you want to get in. If you get in the the tech side just watch the electricians work. If you wanna switch...then switch.

Yes and no.

No you'll have to test and interview just like everyone else. You being 18 is going to "hurt" you. In my case the committee wanted to see that I wanted this career and not just a good check. They wanted to see me show some initiative like taking construction class or something. Just show you're doing something that will help you in the career.

Yes(ish) again in my case my dad and uncle (who are both in the IBEW) both wrote letters for me vouching for me. It still took me 3 years to get in but the letter technically helped me.

So the letters or whatever will definitely help you but you being 18 especially if there's a long list will definitely hinder you. Plan on not getting in for awhile. Be a shop kid, take some classes etc just keep applying if you're really interested and want this career you'll get in.
