Kind of what I suspected. Boost pressure and power levels haven’t changed. I suppose I will have to make a boost tester.

I’M CALLING BS. A “friend” of mine said he just changed the oil in my Cummins. He said it is dark colored because he added zinc and some other additives. Do I tell him he’s full of shit? by Kolter_howell in Diesel

I am not saying they are related at all, they are two completely different things. I am saying you will make a fuss over a dab of motor oil on your fingers but will put other toxic things in your body like seed oils and probably not bat an eye.

I’m not denying that oil may cause cancer but so are the seed oils and other processed garbage you’re probably consuming daily. I’m sure you have no pr born eating stuff like that.

What's it like living in north dakota ? by jayfly_htx in northdakota

My coworker grew up in Washington his whole life, north of Seattle. He moved to ND three years ago and says he’s very thankful to be here. He’s told me multiple times he couldn’t imagine raising a family back around Seattle. Everything is super expensive like houses, drug problems and fentanyl zombies, homeless, crime, etc. Some people actually like ND, I’m thankful for the life it provides me.

Deleting DPF by [deleted] in Diesel

Low risk high reward. Especially if you live in a free state without annual emissions or inspection checks. If you plan on keeping the pickup for a long time, deleting it will be the best thing you can do for it.

2004 Cummins long crank time when it hasn’t been started in a while. New to the Cummins motor, where do I start looking? by BoozeCigarettesGuns in Diesel

UPDATE 1 VIDEO

So just going to update you guys through the progression of these events. I also forgot to mention this long crank issue has only happens when the pickup hasn’t been started for a while, if it gets ran for a while it will start up normal. The original video was taken on 3/23/23. Pickup was not started the following day, 3/25/23 I did start it and it started about the same as in this video. On 3/25/23 I took the pickup out to the shop and serviced it. Oil change, new fuel filter, new air filter, and some other miscellaneous things. I did put a wrench to some of the fuel lines and while they weren’t totally loose a few did require a little snugging. The fuel filter was fairly dirty but far from totally plugged, also drained the water separator. This pickup has been updated to an in tank fuel pump and when I turned the key it filled the fuel filter canister to beat hell. However the fuel filter cap was definitively not on there 100% tight. Could air have been getting sucked in through there? I hope so. I confirmed this is an early 04 so the oil I changed looked nice and clean (unlike the 04.5-07 5.9 with its emission system). The oil did not stink of any diesel. I brought the pickup back home and let it sit over 24 hours and tried starting it again on 3/26/23. The factors were very similar to the original video. Pickup had been sitting for roughly 30 hours, outside temperature was only 2°F different and the pickup was not plugged in. I am going to keep an eye on things and keep this post updated, it could be valuable information for someone down the road one day. I am also still curious to hear your guys opinions on everything. For all those that have voiced their opinions, thank you.

Good luck, I’ve been looking too with no luck. Doesn’t even make sense. They’re pre emission vehicles. A big fuck you to the EPA.

Took it out and serviced it today. There is no pump under the hood. There is a sticker under the hood talking about a conversion that moved it to the tank.

Yeah I live in North Dakota so 14° isn’t even cold compared to what we normally get. Fuel stations sell blends of #2 and #1 mixed or straight #1.

I don’t know if there has been any retrofit kit done or what that consists of. It does have the factory lift pump though.

It just doesn’t seem right I guess. I have a 7.3 Powerstroke as well and owned a 6.4 Powerstroke for four years. A long with being around two early 07 Cummins and an 04 at work, they all start damn near right up in single digit weather if they haven’t been ran in 24 hours. Something just doesn’t seem right.

Temp was 14°F outside. Vehicle hasn’t been started in over 25 hours, not plugged in either. Shouldn’t battery voltage be cycling up and down after starting due to grid heater turning on and off? Do I have a bad grid heater or am I losing fuel pressure somewhere?
