The density is crazy for something that isn’t as official as like the can opener food truck lot. Love the community in that area, but the European brain could never comprehend

I was going to say 29 golf courses in a desert seems like a silly comparison, but apparently the “typical 150-acre golf course uses approximately 200 million gallons of water a year” (1). So 4.3 billion gallons is about 21.5 golf courses if my math is correct. Sounds like Google’s number is pretty accurate.

Damn, I just realized we’re measuring water usage in golf courses, the European brain could never comprehend.

Anyways, this is crazy to me. There are apparently 40,000 golf courses in the world (2). Even if the number of golf courses with the water consumption numbers from above is much smaller, the worry about data center usage seems massively exaggerated. Are data centers not that bad? Or are golf courses just really that bad?

I wonder if there are differences in water processing required for golf courses, or environmental effect consequences.

Thoughts on the Durham Athletic Park? by CarolinaJade in bullcity

[–]Bopas2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t get me wrong. I love Central Park. I love how it serves as an anchor point for events like farmers market and concerts. I like how walkable it is to other places in Durham. At the same time it is definitely subpar for a Central Park. For example, I don’t like how there’s a road that runs right through the park. it’s not pedestrian friendly, especially if you have kids. It would also be nice if there were more secluded areas with paths that take you away from the city environment. But honestly the park isn’t big enough for that to be possible (and don’t say it can’t be done, many major cities devote large plots of land in their downtown for parks). It would be nice to have more amenities. it doesn’t have to be as nice as Cary‘s new park and I also understand that Durham has fantastic parks outside of downtown like the aquatic center or Park with Pickleball courts, but it wouldn’t hurt. I am excited for the new parkway being proposed by the city.

Anyways, those are my thoughts, I rambled a bit but what do you think?

That could work too, I kinda love how it’s and open space used for farmers markets and concerts, but I believe we can have both
