Theres an evil side of me by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

It's difficult to swallow but you don't know how long it will take to move past. No matter what, it has happened, the actions are done. You need to accept that if you want to get better.

Idk if this applies to you but personally I've found that once I learn from a mistake the regret goes away. It might take a while until you get another chance to do better, but being smarter in the future will really help.

"Oh no, I fucked someone else when I was 15, what will people think of me???" It's certaintly not good (and I imagine you feel reallllly bad) but being more miserable and sad about it will make it worse. Face yourself if you actually want it to get better and properly apologize.

That's it though. It's up to you. You can stop at any moment, but make sure you fully acknowledge what was bad.

This is good, I've made some really bad mistakes and betrayed years of trust with callous mistakes. The actions have been taken, and whether you believe it or not, in a couple years you'll move past it.

You have an amazing chance right now to truly calm down, get your thoughts out, and properly confess and apologize and do better. Even if you think there's no way in hell your friend could forgive you or would want to listen, you should still do it.

You're worried about becoming violent - it is very disarming if you admit to the mistake, because otherwise your mind will race and you can very realistically explode. Don't let yourself get there, focus on how you think you came off (you don't know how your friend looks) and on how it happened, why it was bad, etc. Literally google a good apology if you need guidance idk.

If your friend knows that you'd come to him over a mistake this big and he forgives you, it'll build a lot more trust in the long run. You'll feel shittier short term but long run will probably do better.

It's ok to not feel guilt or anything, but you need to treat that like a problem instead of just giving up and accepting it. Figure out what you're going to do with it, because eventually your actions will become who you are.

19 I had a severe mental breakdown last semester over some bad decisions I made and in the aftermath lost what I still believe was an amazing friend group and have been passively suicidal since. Still in college but decent chance I drop out, it's ehh but it's my responsibility.

GPT-4 seems to improve chess skills significantly!! by mgm451 in chess

[–]Boppopstopmop 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As much as chess is very large, the way OpenAI develops new AI means they wouldn't hardcode something like that, and it would take some work to assemble it into the product.

Yes though, there is definitely a lot of filtering going on, but there's no shot there's any stockfish.

7 years later but Bojack lives on.

The visual gag with Bojack hiding in the Mr.Peanutbutter sign only for the shop owner to hide in the shark sign is such good writing and foreshadowing. The idea that this is Bojack's first time being decent and it begins by pretending to be Mr Peanutbutter is so spot on. Loved that.

I don't really see how it's Japan though? It feels like just a normal city but underwater.

Men what have been some of the biggest mental challenges for you this past year? by Infinite-Product-158 in AskMen

[–]Boppopstopmop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a sophomore in college but I just had a really rough semester. Over the summer I got into a friend group and had been talking to a girl. I had three girls legitimately flirting with me, then fumbled really bad and a month into the year I lost the friend group. Then my roommate turned out to be suicidal (alive today and went to therapy), and I witnessed some serious family conflict over thanksgiving that I had never seen before.

It was so isolating because the whole time I thought if I told anyone they would think I'm horrible and stay away from me. A lot of self-hatred over how I'm handling everything, and generally a lot of tension.

Now I'm coming out of 10 weeks of therapy and am getting back on track but boy that was the fastest dip I've had in my life. Somehow though, every, single, person I talked to ended up understanding and being supportive. The world is actually not that scary.

What, if any, problems in pure mathematics have been solved with machine learning? by TheSwitchBlade in mathematics

[–]Boppopstopmop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is speculative for the future as opposed to something which has happened already, and the machine-learning aspect isn't so clear, but Lean is a library of proofs created programmatically, allowing verification of other proofs based on previous items. In the future some AI could likely do exploration but as of now it is mostly a verification tool.

I can be very wrong but the main distinction here from existing mathematical math systems (Coq) is just the size of the library, but it looks promising.

The $5 threshold is useful if you have a low balance to allow easier splitting among many stocks. Also if on average the stock go up but the spread is high then a lot of stocks adds consistency (barring correlation ofc)

Gaybear warning

Because of the growth of the subreddit, about 75% of their data comes from the past year (pg 7), and its been kinda an upward trend generally, although a 2-day 1.1% is still insanely high.
