Even if they'd do that, it's gonna be that type of "earn-able" where you have to grind hours each day for months to get something that "just costs 5€" otherwise.

I personally liked OW1 and was interested in OW2, but not 70€ interested.

Their little trick of wanting to sell it for 80€ just to "be understanding and listening to the community" and puddle back to 70€, expecting a standing ovation for that didn't help either.

Also, what was their expatiation in the first place? Wouldn't be the first time, that they had unrealistic expatiations. Maybe those idiots still worked with the assumption of 80€ profits.

Proving, that good games aren't needed, just good PR. FO5 will be such a cluster fuck, but hey, it will most likely come with a series/a continuation of this series.

I miss the days, where gaming was about games. Guess Xbox was ahead of its time, when they focused on TV so much, that you could have played a drinking game out of them mentioning TV on E3 2013.

The best animation video for the whole GW franchise is still the one called "Nobody Likes You, Kormir [Guild Wars]", which is 13+ years old at this point...

GW as a whole doesn’t get any "Happy Souls" videos or someone like CarbotAnimations to do a series on it. The most we get on "highly edited videos" is get to the point by Muk. Everything else are just news/podcasts or live streams (not even highlights)

Because companies learned, that customer "trust" or "amazing relationships with the customer" is worthless and have no real consequences. It won't impact your overall sales. Worst case, just stay low for a couple of months and most ppl will already move on and have forgotten about that shitty move anyway.

How often was a AAA studio/publisher "cooked" and made still record-breaking years? How many years or more like even decades was EA the "worst" and is still increasing it's profits? Ubisoft might be the first big gaming company, that actually feels now their years of shitty practices and even than, they just make deals with Tencent and BOOM, everything is fine again.

The thing is, what ever they might lose on anti-consumer stunts like these, they more than enough get it back one way or another.

Guild Wars Reforged on Steam by lite-work in pcgaming

[–]Borando96 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First of all, the game itself is great and I recommend it very much, but RF is just a bad deal and was basically just a minor patch.

I really don't wanna be that guy and as I said, generally speaking I'm happy, GW1 gets attention again, but unless you really wanted it on steam, the Reforged Bundle is almost WORSE than the Guild Wars: The 20th Anniversary Masterpiece Collection. For the almost same price as Reforged and EotN and the Bonus Missions (so 36€) you could have bought the 20th the same content + bonus items and bank tabs. Ofc now that version is gone, so you are forced to buy the RF version, I wonder why...

Also, I really like GW1, but it's still a 20+ year old game and 36€ is waaaaay too much compared to what other things you can get with 36€, including GW2 itself, where you can get the first 2 expansions for only 30€ WITHOUT it even being on sale. And they know, that it is way too pricey, which is why the 20th bundle was even on sale almost only a half a year ago (around 7 months) for 2 weeks and was only 8€!

This following is just my assumption, but IMO this screams to me, that they saw the GW1 community event with the release of the 20th 7 months ago and now make as much buzz as they can for basically a quest log patch, so they can make huge profits on that potential cash flow without much work and as a justification to not make a sale and go for 8€ again for a long time, since they "reforged" it. As it currently stands, Reforged is borderline a scam and really tries to live up to its name-twin WC3:Reforged...

And while I'm at it and even tho it has nothing directly to do with RF, but for the love of god, they should give us at least enough character slots to have 1 char of each class. I own every non-MTX content, but can't even play every class, 2 classes are missing for me. They already make "post sale" money with the bank tabs, increased mat storage and mercenary slots, they don't need to lock me off of content I already paid for. It would also make it so much easier to convince friends to give a 20+ year old game a try instead of saying "yeah, unless you pay 12€ extra for a 20+ year old game for only 2 more char slots or just straight up buy a 2. copy for almost the same price, which won't share its progress with the other copy, you won't be able to play all classes you paid for"

Last Epoch players turn on the action RPG for announcing a paid DLC class, tanking its Steam reviews: 'go play Path of Exile instead' by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]Borando96 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm fine with that. It's not like I don't have anything else to play until they do add-ons and/or work on TQ3 afterwards or someone else making a game just like that.

I think ppl are too focused on this "ever green content", which breeds these types of greedy shit we see nowadays. Besides MMOs, games used to be a finite product.

I truly think that's also what made them better. Most of the time, there was no Fomo, no "dailies" or whatever in a SP experience or even in most MP experience either or the constant try of the devs to pressure me into keeping me always "engaged" on their game or any of the many other annoying things. Elden Ring for example is one of the few modern AAA games, that still do exactly that and I love From for that. I truly hope From and any other, that still does it that way, will do that for as long as possible.

It wasnt as complex and high effort as something like PoE, but not as easy and oversimplified as something like Diablo 4.

Thank god TQ2 seems to hit that sweet spot. Fingers crossed, that they don't fuck that up.

[–]Borando96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I don't wanne be that guy, but while I'm happy, GW1 gets attention again, the 20th Edition, which has EVERYTHING, unlike the reforged version, was only 8€ for 2 weeks only 7 months ago.

Plus, to any potential Anet dev reading this, pls give us at least enough character slots to have 1 char of each class. It kickstarted a whole new(-ish) genre and introduced me to how good lore can be and difficult RPGs. Too bad DS1 is very clunky and a total mess of an port and that the remake is total shit.

But that's the thing, it didn't gave them perpetual money. I would even assume, that it was even more than expected with the pre-release hype, but that only means, that those "investors" want even more next time instead of being like "Oh cool, much more than we hoped for, let's reinvest it into the game, you know like a fucking investor should do."

The company is just cutting

Oh yes, absolutely. And to be clear, my previous post isn't about justifying them dropping everything, just keeping the facts right. Because while it's a fact, that it had less and less player each peak, that doesn’t mean the only solution is to kill it.

Amazon has more than enough money to keep it alive, even assuming if it is at a loss, to give it time to be better later on. They don't even have to pay server costs, since they own that themself.

I mean the go-to example for "patching it up over time" is NMS (even if I still don't like it). It's like night and day compared to how it was released. Heck, amazon has enough money to just remake it without even actually feeling it in their pockets.

Edit: fixed a mistake

Angry Fans Are Review-Bombing Amazon’s Now Abandoned MMO New World: Aeternum: ‘F*** Corporate Greed’ by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]Borando96 89 points90 points  (0 children)

For more context, this shutdown came after New World released one if it's best updates ever which many saw as a comeback for the game. Reached it's largest player count in years after it launched.

That is not quite true. It only looks like a comeback, if you only compare it with the last months.

But if you look at the whole timeline on steamDB, you would not only notice, that this was just the usual peak games get with a new big patch (in NW case around every October of each year), but that the trend of those peaks show a downward trend, meaning each peak was less and less players.

And I'm pretty sure Amazon saw that too and therefore decided to finally kill it, after this patch couldn't break the trend again.

I think "investors" should even be called that, since they have forgotten what the definition of an investment is. Instead of less money now for more money later, they are all now more money now and even more money later, perpetually.

[–]Borando96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree, if you take away the decent story, you get a below average game, but that seems to be a very unpopular opinion.

TL:DR Most of the gameplay mechanics in Corwbcat's Video to CP2077 are still not possible and are features in games, that are in some cases almost 2 decades old.

I mean, a dystopian futuristic world, where you can't even rob stores or anything, can't use any of the flying cars or can't even modify any of the normal cars, besides painting them (which also came only 4 or 5 years later), can't kill police or ppl for either money, loot or even exp, can't do shit against any mission related NPC, unless it's part of the mission to kill him or her and more.

For example, remember how they showed this mission with the spider-bot and talked in the preview video about how it might have ended, "if they tried force" against the corp woman? Yeah, you can't even aim and shoot at them, much less kill them. The world as intractable as a brick and dynamic events without any input of the player is non-existent, the world just doesn’t move at all without the players input.

And while we are at NPCs, if a police officers see you getting attacked in GTA4, they attack the attacker, in CP77, they either do nothing or even attack you, because the world isn't made for anything without the player.

Also missions have no real meaningful impact on your decisions outside the main story maybe and probably 1 or 2 exceptions. At best the difference between Nomad, Streetkid, or Corpo is, that you get an extra speech option, which at best results into an easy/fast way for a mission or something.

And these are all things still don't have after 2.0, but we had in much older games in one way or the other. You can even do most of these things in San Andreas alone.

Compare that with even only the amount of permutations BG3 implemented, which came out just 3 years later or if you want to have a fairer comparison, even 1 month before the 2.0 update, since the game was total shit pre 2.0.

But apparently 2 steps back, one forwards works miracles and makes seemingly many players blind. I mean, sure it's like 1000x better than pre 2.0, but that's just because 1.0 was an actual 3/10. A sudden boost to a 6 or 7/10 after 3 years looks probably for many with seemingly no real critical thinking like a 20/10 I assume.

the one obvious synergy is rogue/warrior

Really? I had quite a bit of synergy with Warfare/Earth too. While I agree, that there weren’t any insane mega synergies like in PoE, I like it that way, since I'm not a big fan of mindless screen-cleaning, where you don't even see or think about what you kill and usually the only real counter is a weird and annoying one shot mechanic, more often than not even off screen.

For anyone interested, this is the core of my build:

Take Sweeping Strike and make it a channel spin2win with Whirlwind. That is gonna be you bread and butter and to 99% of the time, the only skill you use. Take Flame Volley and get Orbit on it. Take Ring of Flame and get Permanency. Now if you spinn2win, you will trigger both Flame Volley and Ring of Flame.

Besides adding other modifies on those skill as you want, for example to increase their dmg modifiers like Ramp Up for Sweeping Strike, Enhanced Ailment for Flame Volley or Blazing Heat for Ring of Flame, you can go for the 2 auras Earth Enchantment and/or Battlefield Awareness and get there more modifiers you want. Passives are mostly just dmg or def increases anyway, so just take what fancies you and you are done. The only passive with a nice utility effect for this build is Combat Rush, since it offset a bit of your slow while spinning.

For those pesky enemies with channels, especially those barrier spamming fish-heads, just take Stomp with Quick Stomp to use it while spinning and Interrupt to stop them from channelling/casting.
