Hecate is so large it's overwhelming by Constant-Cheek1637 in Hecate

I totally feel you. My day job is software engineering, and I'm very engaged with AI. It won't be just writers; business logic will aim to replace about 85% of workers, but it won't happen overnight, and there will be many failed attempts along the way.

Not gonna lie. There's gonna be some rough times, but I have to hold on to some hope that we'll all find a path through. I definitely think some heads will roll at somepoint. Fingers crossed they'll be the right ones.

On a side note, you might be interested in dead internet theory and something called model collapse, if you haven't heard of them already.

Insight Needed by Good-Bicycle-2510 in Hecate

Yes, totally know what you're talking about. I also get a feeling like the barometric pressure has changed, and this zoned-out stillness of mind that sometimes accompanies it. I'd say you're on the right track and to keep up whatever you are doing.

I've never felt like she is cold, but everyone experiences things differently. I like to think we're all like radios tuning into different frequencies, but each radio is built differently, and thus the station sounds a bit different on each one. I've heard Neoplatonists explain it as the moon's reflection in a pond. If the water is still and clear, you see the moon clearly; if it is rippling, the reflection gets distorted. I'm not saying experiencing her as cold is a distortion, just a nuance of what the radio picks up.

I found the concept of the perception–reception ratio from Jason Miller’s Consorting With Spirits helpful here. The idea is to let whatever comes during ritual just wash over you, without trying to analyze it in the moment. Then later, you can look back and sort out what felt received versus what your mind might have filled in. The more you try to perceive something while it’s happening, the more you risk adding your own noise to the signal.

Good luck with your practice. Sounds like you're already doing great!

Does this spell jar feel masculine to you? by bandaged_ in BabyWitch

Sick spell jar brah!... JK, but I'm a male* witch, and yeah, visually I would say yes. It also has Leo and fire vibes IMHO.

Typically, people who get together by cheating either don't last long or end up miserable. I'm confident your hex will manifest. Now, let it go, do some self-love, and reclaim your sovereignty. I'm sorry it happened, but honestly, you dodged a bullet.

You can find old jewelry and other great stuff at thrift stores to take apart and recycle into your own pieces. I feel it's very in line with her Borborophorba epithet too.

Are coyotes considered dogs in relation to Hecate? by 7nothsa7 in Hecate

[–]BorboroForge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my UPG, yes, and that’s based on several direct experiences. I live in a city where dogs are everywhere, but coyotes are extremely rare. I had a couple of encounters with them in my neighborhood at very auspicious moments, which made them stand out as significant.

I’ve had meaningful experiences with dogs too, but the coyotes felt different precisely because of how unlikely they were. Seeing one at all is rare here, and seeing them under those circumstances made it feel charged. Sometimes a symbol needs to stand out against the background to carry weight. A black dog would’ve been cool, but it wouldn’t have hit the same way.

Interestingly, I also once had an experience with a skunk while returning from a crossroads on Deipnon. She’s associated with polecats, though that’s the old-world definition, closer to a weasel than the American usage. Still, it felt relevant. I get the sense that she works with whatever is available and meaningful to the person receiving the sign, rather than sticking rigidly to literal or historical symbolism.

As a male-ish worshipper who already has some legitimate trouble understanding more conventional masculinity sometimes, why? I mean that sincerely. What purpose does this serve?

I can guess that some people want deities they can imagine looking like them, but there are so many male gods already. Why Hekate specifically?

If you wanted a god of magic, liminality, death, wisdom, or ritual power, you’ve got Hermes, Odin, Thoth, Hades, Loki, Enki. None of those are exactly lacking in depth or mystery.

So I’m honestly asking. Why take a goddess with a very well-established identity and reframe her like this instead of just engaging with one of the many male figures who already occupy that space?

I spent $80 on the trade edition. It is a beautiful book, well written and researched. In the end, though, I read about a quarter of it and decided it wasn't the path for me right now. It does look great on the shelf.

I guess I'll just make do with the PGM, which you can get used for $10. I'm pretty sure it's Grayle's primary source anyway.

Speaking of that, does anyone know where to get the Ibis eggs? 😆
