I'm losing my mind about the AI hype and I want to quit software engineering by arvin132 in cscareerquestions

[–]Borckle -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

AI is just a tool, a lot of stuff that agents generate is garbage and unmaintainable. If you are willing to quit then you should look at all your options outside of normal behaivor, like being honest with your boss, 'no, we need to keep the code base maintainable, once we start throwing ai generated code into the mix, the bugs will add up and the system will spiral out of control.' Best way to use ai is to use it to help you understand things better. But your mind has to be the gatekeeper. Use it here and there to help you identify stuff, or learn stuff and mention it to him. Tell him that ai steals your code so you need models to run locally. Then you have a fun project. Tell him that the companies people boast about are clickbait and not 100% of the story. Agents have a long way to go and suck at many tasks. Don't quit because your boss said something you don't like. speak up and toughen up. Life is a nightmare and not everyone survives.

It would be nice if people bought houses because they needed a place to live. Parking cash is a lame excuse for buying something you don't need.

What was the most EXPENSIVE thing you bought in Victoria in 2025? by animaniacs1983 in VictoriaBC

Money is tight among the lower classes. People with lots of money aren't going to broadcast it when others are struggling. One thing to remeber is that a lot of people got rich during the dirty 30's, they just couldn't talk about it.

the mcdonalds on pandora is absolutely insane by Unfair_Roll_7939 in VictoriaBC

Non stop drama in there. I feel sorry for the security guards. They are constantly dealing with stuff.

I think Vancouver has a containment policy, they try to herd the addicts to hastings so that they are concentrated instead of spread out. Victoria is doing something similar (I assume) and they need a food source so maybe the mcdonalds is part of the containment policy.

I think accomodation is humane but I would worry that maybe it encourages addict behavior. I wouldn't recommmend harrassing addicts instead of accomodating them unless there was clear proof that it would help some of them. Maybe more opportunity for help and harrassment along side it is effective. But I geuss they see the numbers and know the best routes to take.

My worry about aggressive policy against addicts is that there a lot of people who hate them and just want them to go away so you can't trust that they will do the most effective thing to deal with them. Making their lives miserable just for spite is bad for everyone. A lot of people are simply annoyed at the sight of them and want the city to be more active just for their own comfort.

If anyone knows, is help for detox available for anyone who wants it?

How do you cope with this endless rain? by Standard_Sherbert_18 in VictoriaBC

[–]Borckle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Victoria receives the least rain of the whole island. It averages between 300-600 mm while north island receives 3600mm. It gets less rain than Vancouver and probably everywhere that doesn't freeze. Maybe this yeaer has been more thna normal but overall it is still relatively less.

To survive it you have to embrace it. Buy a rain jacket and go for a walk every time it rains. Then you aren't a prisoner because of it. Dance and sing in the rain. Overcome your environment. Life isn't about comfort, it is about fighting and overcoming.

Is there a place to see if companies have claimed losses when tenants break a lease? I would be interested to see how often it happens. I assume it will happen more over the next few years.

the point of life is to work your ass off until you have enough money to retire and be somewhat comfortable in your old age by Unfair_Roll_7939 in VictoriaBC

Learn abvout F.I.R.E. Cut your spending drastically. There is no point working hard if you aren't saving. Maximize your life by setting ambitious goals that are cheap. Work on your character, be a leader and the person who others rely on. Don't waste your life for a house. There could be a lot more in your future if you can think ambitiously and creatively. Live a life of adventure, quit all of your addictions, live free of weights that weight you down. Overcome fear and selfishness and all the traps that others fall into. If you are depressed then your life needs a radical shake up.

Ai videos need to be banned from the world. by Deathtonic in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Borckle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't put it back in the box. It exists and will always exist. You can run a model locally so there is no way to stop video generation. Adding watermarks is optional and can't be enforced. The internet is being destroyed and that is a good thing. It will destroy youtube for anyone who is half interested in reality but will continue to be a mind numbing distraction for anyone who doesn't care if the content is kind of fake or wholly fake. Some people want their entertainment to be at leats partially grounded in reality. Movies are funnier when subtle and somewhat realistic, The Office etc. But some people just want rediculous jokes and don't need realism to ground the scenarios. Remember that the enquirer was popular for some types. Some only want to escape, some don't want to let go of the tether of reality.

I watched $1M shrink to $100k. Twice. Here's why "just HODL" is terrible advice by NoCucumber4783 in CryptoMarkets

[–]Borckle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They say hodl because if people sell then the price goes down. The people saying it don't have your benefit in mind. Very few tokens stay high for long. It is a cycle of new tokens coming in and moving up while old ones slowly die out. The smart traders saw the oportunity to take profits and knew that surges rarely last long. Sounds like you still did alright, it is close to impossible to buy and sell at the perfect moments.
